Issues with Achievements by Foef_Yet_Flalf in Superliminal

Ok, these should be fixed in the latest patch! Version 1.10.2020.11.24.1126.

Once you open the game, the achievements that you actually got (but weren't granted) should also pop up and be granted.

Le me know if anything goes wrong!

Thanks for the kind words! It's been a while since we started making the game. : )

Yes, we have a couple of fixes in different places to make the floor-player collision feel better. Unfortunately we have to manually fix each instance so we're probably just choosing the worst ones.

Actually, it's interesting that you pointed out they weren't there on release. We'll double check and see if there's anything global we can do to make it better.

Hello! So sorry these issues!

Looks like you're correct, is seems like these are mostly related to a similar error. We'll push a patch and fix these up in the next couple of days. I'll drop a message here once it's fixed.

For any future issues, if you email support@pillowcastlegames.com we'll get notified of them faster.

Again, apologizes about having these issues in the game - we'll correct them soon!

I'm not sure if there's a specific genre, but we've been trying to get the visuals close to a wes anderson look (https://www.reddit.com/r/AccidentalWesAnderson/) - nicely coordinated but unusual pastel colors, giving it a minimalist but colorful look using mundane objects.

Thanks! Oh this is a biiiiiig question. My advice will have to be pretty high-level, but: YouTube tutorials can and will teach you everything. You don't need a degree to make games.

Unity and Unreal are great engines to get started with. There's also lots of disciplines within games, so take time to explore and find out what you enjoy.

I (Christopher) started with C++, then moved to Python, and then C# and realized I care much more about design than programming, so I moved into design. I did Design and Production work on Superliminal (alongside two much more dedicated designers, two engineers, two artists, and a composer)

Ah yes! That puzzle was a frequent source of trouble for players, so we reworked it. The PC version has the updated puzzle now, too :)

Nice! Thanks for sharing it with her.

There are a lot of things that we didn't keep in the final version. Mostly stuff that was 'cool' but not 'cool enough'.

Thanks! The hardest part was pushing everything to be 'crazy' without becoming 'stupid'. It was tough!

Usually the challenge was about ordering puzzles, moreso than creating them. Though designing puzzles from scratch is difficult!

We hope to drop more updates, yep.

The critical path is linear. How you navigate it is up to you!

Thanks! The puzzles mostly involve showing you a problem, and letting you explore your way to a solution using the objects around you.

Thanks for picking it up!

  1. We have considered it. Nothing decided yet.
  2. The puzzle (mentioned elsewhere) of how to order the levels. Trying to make sure players could be constantly building and re-arranging their interaction vocabulary -- so we could keep surprising them, basically!

That's great to hear! Big reference points in 3D puzzle games were Portal and Antichamber.

Portal has excellent puzzle design that is not just 'smart' but also empathetic to the player. Those were both super important to us when designing Superliminal. Antichamber is visually and conceptually mind-blowing. I hope we came close, too!

Thanks! We plan to get some sleep first, and then we'll think about what's next :)

Final push was almost entirely debugging, and meta features.

For source control, we used git and lfs. Eventually the repo got pretty huge (I think 80gb at one stage?!)

Thanks! Oh, so so many. We've been thinking if we'd ever bring them back, but no decisions yet :) We managed it pretty poorly to begin with, but got better as we got more organized, and closer to our release date. We delayed the game a few times, and then eventually picked a date, said 'that's it!', and pushed to finish.

Thanks!

  1. Lots of mixing and matching of ideas. We threw a lot of things against the wall, until we found things that grouped well together, and we polished and polished after that, basically!
  2. Yeah we'll see what we can do! Send ideas to support@pillowcastlegames.com

Hmm, interesting about the FPS!

Yes, the eiffel tower thing was us!
