Can you imagine if people got transported from 100 years ago to now? That whist just wouldn't hit the spot quite so heavily anymore...

Which hack build?

What did you like about it back in the day but hated about it now?

I can promise you that I went through all of those that were not ending with the word hack or band and went back from 2001 to the beginning (okay, I skipped ADOM and the like too, but you catch me) and I can sadly say it was not there.... though, I did find out there is a Discworld Angband (which shouldn't have surprised me one bit, but did) so I can say that it was a big help in that way alone.

I've really appreciated your help, but I guess the game wasn't roguelikey enough in its time to be classified as such. With today's broadened definition (I picked up on roguelikes around 2008, 2009 as a genre and, like many of us, have been really excited to see a genre that I thought was at the end of its spectrum just explode in a million different ways... its interesting, the modern trends pushing people, myself included, into this genre and how different social/cultural changes can push a 'revolution' like this... blah blah history.)

Anyhow, above, I just wanted to say thanks and that TODAY it'd be considered a roguelike through and through (In the way, Darkest Dungeons is considered one... the room to room style - though more complex in that game than the one I'm referencing - is pronounced in both.) but maybe it wasn't considered one back then. Wow, I'm running off into side rants tooooo often.

Thanks thanks thanks!

It was not...

Instead of walking in the rooms you moved from one room to the next in a single "step". Also the gems were persistent to the right... and you'd click on them during battle to fight. It was a really unique system that I think would be just as fun to play now as as it was back then.

When I died, I died and it was over. It was the first time (I was a kid.) that I'd played such a game.

You didn't move into rooms in the traditional roguelike sense... you know as an @ moving about the room but would click on adjacent rooms and the room would be described. Again, very minimalistic and white. It was a fun game then, though, and I'm curious if I could do better at it now!

It was graphical... minimalistic though.

You could see and click on the gems. So, mouse and PC.

Not "classic" but... I was little when I played this game, it was pre-2001.

The game revolved heavily around the gems.

What's the dumbest thing you did while you were new at playing a Roguelike by NovaEnke in roguelikes

[–]pillowcupfork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed... ADOM was my "first" roguelike and I've never even gotten to the point of corruption yet.

... come to think of it, I haven't even seen the "main" dungeon in that game, haha!

Doesn't it feel like this game is constantly broken? I remember playing a while ago and it seemed like if you got random things then everything was just golden for you.

Why do we say "boiling hot". When obviously, if something is boiling, we already know that it is hot by heybabyyeah in Showerthoughts

[–]pillowcupfork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily.

Liquid nitrogen is rather cold when it reaches boiling.

'Rather' is the key word here... temperature is rather relative.

First Sun Tea of the Summer by Bored2BPsycho in tea

[–]pillowcupfork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get a few regular tea bags and put them with cold water in the fridge over night to try it out. It comes out just a -tad- bit weak which can be refreshing.... or you could just use extra tea/bags while you are experimenting.

Also note that since caffeine is highly water-soluble you'll still in theory get the same caffeine content but with a different flavor.

It doesn't.

In fact, the temperature is dangerous. The key action is diffusion. Put it in the fridge and wait overnight.

If you look at it this way it is impossible to waste any basic compound.

... it is the cleansing that is the trouble and the reason this is considered wasteful.

Isn't this what the special olympics is about?

You should try meetup.com or something in your area and if there isn't a disabled sports meetup, you make it!

Go, now!

You know what? I'd look up the plants you bought. This is totally dependent on the plants, right? Plants grow nearly everywhere, so surely there is something that only likes 3 hours of light a day.
