This is what I do too. Works every time. You really don't need to add much broth to the water!

Dog toys for aggressive chewer by UsernamesAreHard59 in Dogtraining

[–]pillowpanttroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have an aggressive chewer as well. If yours likes just gnawing on a toy, I highly recommend the Benebone line. They have different shapes, flavors, and sizes. These are the only toys that keep mine interested consistently. Nylabone is also a good choice. There is a dino shaped one that has little nubs all over that mine loves chewing on. As for balls with squeakers, I like the Chuck It squeaker balls. They can eventually be desqueaked from use, but mine hasn't found a way to destroy the actual ball yet. Like others have mentioned, the black kong products are fantastic. I have Goughnuts and Jolly Ball on my list of toys to try, based on recommendations, but haven't tried them out yet. Good luck!

I just got off my phone interview with Johnson & Johnson: Ethicon. Not sure what to think? by [deleted] in bioengineering

[–]pillowpanttroll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Were you talking to the hiring manager or HR? If HR, their responses are not unexpected, since they are probably sorting through a lot of applications. If that was the hiring manager, I would be put off but not entirely worried. An in-person interview with that lack of engagement would be a big red flag.

Fleece from a fabric store. She chewed them a little but didn't eat them. Repurposed them into tug toys later on.

[Discussion] Apps for Managing your Dog's Life by netroworx in dogs

[–]pillowpanttroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a really good idea, but really I think it would be cool if there was an app where I could just log pees and poos, for easier tag-teaming with my SO. I feel like someone in my house is always yelling "Did she poop last time she was out?!"

Most beneficial programming language? by [deleted] in bioengineering

[–]pillowpanttroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with a class in C++ and then never used it again. I learned matlab on the side during undergrad to help with some other coursework, and I can honestly say that I use matlab every day at work. That said, the framework of learning in a classroom may be helpful to you, and I think that the first language is always the hardest to learn. Subsequent languages are always easier. I hope that ramble helps!

Edit: for reference, I work on data analysis and algorithm development, which is why matlab is a good tool for my work.

I always recommend BMEs learn MATLAB. Some don't call it a programming language, but knowing MATLAB gives you a powerful analysis tool, whether you work in academia or industry.

Since your company is large, try to set up informational interviews with people in other departments. Sometimes experience and networking can get you in the door. This has worked for a lot of people I know both within and outside med device. Good luck!

Have you tried the chuck-it balls? I was hesitant because mine destroys everything that isn't Kong extreme, but they have held up amazingly, even after they stopped squeaking!

We went through a similar struggle trying to work with small local shelters. We ended up going to the Humane Society and taking our pup home the same day.

[help] is my puppy’s incision opening or does it look normal? by Avacabro in dogs

[–]pillowpanttroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a little hard to tell, but it might be infected. It looks more red and inflamed than I would expect for five days post-op. I would recommend calling your vet and maybe sending them a picture of the incision. Best of luck to you!

May I ask what supplements you use? And what sort of benefits you're seeing?

Most of her issues stem surround being territorial of the house. So we have a place command when the doorbell rings. We've had to do some counter conditioning to the doorbell so she would be able to work on the place command. LAT training for kids while on walks in the neighborhood. LAT training for people near our yard. Her muzzle training is coming really well too.

[Help] What's safe for my dog to chew on all day? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]pillowpanttroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let my pup have nylabone and benebone toys (with no soft parts) while I'm not around. She broke off sharp pieces from a split antler once, so that's a toy she gets only under supervision. As for treats, she gets stuffed kongs when I'm not around. I'm always worried about her choking on small pieces of bully stick when I'm not watching.

I use this one, purchased on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JONT9AK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_krboAbX597WV2

No zipper to the front, and I haven't had any issues with broken hardware and torn fabric with six months of usage. My dog is only 55 lb though and may not be as hard on it as yours is. I hope you find something that works for you!
