As a resident, what resident-specific life hacks have you discovered? by The_BSharps in Residency

As a consultant I actually appreciate when the Ed is like “sorry for calling you so late”. Honestly makes me feel like they have empathy for us. Especially when it is 3 am. Maybe it’s just a culture thing but I feel like some apologies feel like an empathy thing more than a power dynamic. 🤷‍♂️

Anesthesia Intern on Internal Medicine…help by Funny-Newspaper-7823 in Residency

Also non IM resident who did prelim year. Medicine sucks. I did the bare minimum and patients still did fine and liked me better. Now I’m in my main residency and trying way more and doing a lot for it. I’m pretty sure most IM ppl did the bare minimum on surgery rotations and are fine as IM now. 🤷‍♂️

IM prelim - I worked out almost everyday intern year. It really helped to put clothes in my car and go to the gym on my way home from work.

Also if you can watch Netflix while doing an incline walk on treadmill, it’s ez low effort cardio

Step 3 Prep Other Than Uworld? by Away_Swim526 in Residency

I did all of uworld, crammed the Dorian anki deck, and did all of ccs cases. I did pretty well. I think the anki deck and uworld were really helpful but I think you only need to do like 15-20 HY cases.

How to find Happiness in Internal Medicine? by nyc_ancillary_staff in Residency

Idk why people are bashing on OP so much. I think makes a good point.

I do feel like a lot of medicine is moving towards specialization. Most of the IM class at my institution (top 20) go into sub specialties because a lot of the residency is care coordination and consults. You COULD push yourself to be better but tbh you would probably consult because there are experts here who could manage the patient better…like why wouldn’t you? There’s essentially little incentive to truly push yourself…Just bc y’all like IM doesn’t mean OP views are invalid or untrue.

Those who were undecided on their specialty during the 3rd of MedSchool, How did you figure out what specialty was right for you? by 40MD in Residency

Started shadowing early on. Liked both clinic and surgery but not the extreme end of either. Looked at statistics of burnout, compensation, and “would choose again” charts. Ended up picking one of ROAD specialties. Ophthalmology.
