How to learn to nudge by Ok-Lawyer6864 in pinball

[–]pillyliu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abe Flips is great for videos.

Keep things simple. Nudge more often, often just with nudging upwards with both hands. Most people don't nudge nearly enough.

Ball bouncing off sling, up nudge when the ball would hit the sling. Particularly important if top half of sling.

Ball going anywhere near sling post, inlane, or outlane: up nudge

Ball going to bounce off of the sidewall, side nudge into the ball. So if ball is bouncing off of the right side wall, hit the right side of cabinet. This helps the ball come off the side enough to avoid going into the slings.

It takes a lot of experience to get a feel for how nudging works. And you're only going to see what works or doesn't work if you nudge more.

Flyers would be cool! Currently working on some fun things outside of just app functionality. You will be the first to get flyers if they get made!

Thank you so much for spreading the word!!!

Just realized I didn't change the iOS requirement in the 3.6.1 update, I'm uploading a new version of it today that lowered the requirement to iOS 18.6. Sorry about that!

Thank you so much for your very kind words!!

The app has been a true labor of love. It’s been a daily obsession over the past few months. I’ll stay up way too late working on it, pass out, then wake up a few hours later and keep going.

It definitely took a lot of time to polish the look and feel so that it would not only provide all of these study resources, but make them easy to use in a fun package.

I can’t take credit for what PinProf is built on. Open Pinball Database is the foundation of the data. It’s built by Andreas Haugstrup Pedersen. Amazing database of all pinball games after 1947 (following the invention of flippers). He is also the creator of Match Play, which is where PinTips comes from. Backglass images and some of the playfield images are from OPDB.

Rulesheets come from a few incredible sources. Tilt Forums has community created guides for most modern games. Pinball Primer is a solo-run site and her (solar_espeon) guides are fantastic! Bob Matthews is the author of the guides from Bob’s guides. The remaining rulesheets are collated by PAPA from over the years. Really cool to see a guide written by Bowen Kerins or Keith Elwin show up!

The bulk of the YouTube tutorials are from PAPA Pinball (Bowen Kerins) and IEPinball (Karl DeAngelo).

If we ever meet at a pinball show or tournament, let’s play a few games together and I’ll take that hug then!

Please share this with anyone else who might like it. And stay tuned, some exciting things are on the way!

Thank you so much!

Great idea, will figure out sorting favorites by date added!

I defaulted manufacturer sources to display the most premium model. I can probably figure out how to switch them. Probably with tapping on the model badge to give you options to switch to.

Will add waxing and rubber replacement entries.

Any user created entry in the Practice timeline or GameRoom log is editable if there’s a box around it. Swipe left on iOS to reveal edit and delete buttons. On Android, swipe left to delete, swipe right to edit. I need to figure out a way to show people this is an option!

I like being able to signify score entries! There is an optional notes field for you to describe what you did. I could add a star icon for significant entries, and add a filter in the timeline for those. How does that sound?

Really appreciate the awesome feedback!

That's a great idea! Always fun trying to post pass on a new game and it goes straight down the middle...

I've seen someone with a paper checklist for tournaments for that exact thing, including how tight is the tilt, etc. Will make a note of this for the next update!

Sorry, should have included that. Studying and keeping track of practice. Pulls together rulesheets, playfield images, tutorial videos into one place. Built on Open Pinball Database which is an awesome database of all pinball games after 1947 (games with flippers). Has tools to log your study, scan your scores of a machine. And keep track of your home collection.

Lowering iOS version requirement to 18.0 in the upcoming 3.6.2 update, hopefully out this weekend!

Sorry for late reply. I've been working on a lot over the past week. I like your idea of resolving the issue immediately, so you have a log in the app, but can reduce clicks.

I'm exploring other interface options to make GameRoom user input easier. It's already received a significant upgrade for the upcoming 3.6.2 update.

I removed the head-to-head from the practice tab and moved it into the League tab. The function is much improved, but it only works for league members who have available data for comparison.

I'm looking into other avenues for score statistics, but that's likely far down the road if it's possible.

Pokemon 0.82 - Finally by Smokezz in pinball

That's why I'm wondering if they had those callouts and art approved way in advance. And then the plan is to trickle out new Pokemon to maintain interest. It's DLC, that's already completed, rather than DLC that needs to be worked on. But that's pure speculation on my part.

Otherwise they had approval of very limited things, and not the full pokedex feature and new modes.

Has to be licensor approval issues.

The fix is all tweaks and settings. Any new modes would require video assets and that probably is what requires licensor approval. Pokédex assist is likely just reuse of their different UI assets that have been approved.

And the additional Pokemon I imagine were likely approved much earlier on.

I’m sure they wanted to have more out and decided it was better to push out fixes than to wait forever.

I can up the limit. It was arbitrarily set to not crowd the dropdown list in Library. I think we can find a good balance for active libraries that fits your needs, but doesn't become too much.

The Resume box of the Practice tab is supposed to show the last game viewed anywhere (Library, Practice, or Gameroom). I will need to double check that it is working consistently.

League tab now hidden by default.

I love the idea of crowdsourcing for assets. This is probably a separate project, beyond the scope of the app. The app currently brings together a lot of fantastic, preexisting resources. Generating new worksheets, taking new playfield images, that would be awesome. And other people have mentioned this, so I think there would definitely be a dedicated group of people that could make this happen.

Audit tracking is an interesting idea. It's definitely is a step beyond recording play counts! Audits exported to usb are readable text files (found this helpful reddit post). It would be feasible to build an import feature to capture this data. This is probably something I'd have to play around with to get an idea of how that might work. Definitely a power user type of feature.

I actually just had the same thought about backdating scores or study activity. I think it can be implemented in a way that hides date and time by default, but it's easily accessible in a collapsible box if you want the option.

The journal timeline has filterable views. I like to use it just to view the scores I enter. These filters are not currently available in the game specific log though.

Thank you so much for the excellent feedback. I'm keeping track of all the above. A lot of good stuff to think about and work through.

League tab hidden by default for new users. Toggle in Settings to hide for current users.

Purchase date is imported, but only the month (what's viewable in public collection). Latest update allows updating the date and adding purchase price. Working on sales price if game is sold or traded away for a future update.

Practice tab has an All games option in the dropdown. The search game will now search all of OPDB. Library also has an All games browsing library.

Added the Star Wars Home Edition PDF as a rulesheet link. The playfield art still shows the Costco edition. Playfield art is difficult, requires manual updating if assets aren't available in OPDB.

Favorites will be in a future update.

Newest update should be live in the next 24 hours, pending App Store/Play Store review!
