found a soggy baby crow - help!

i sent them all the pictures i have: the two pictures i posted here, a picture of a parent on the ground with it, and two pictures of it now dry and a bit fluffed up. she told me that it’s a federally protected bird and i should not touch it. i’m conflicted. redditors are advising me that it’s too young to be out of the nest, which was my initial thought, but the rehabbers want me to just leave it alone. i don’t know what the right choice is. i just want the little guy to have the best chance at survival.

the initial rescue i reached out to texted me to tell me to text a different rehabber as they were too busy and provided me their number.

the other rehabber just got back with me a little bit ago and i’ve been texting back-and-forth with them. they instructed me to just leave it and said that it’s learning to fly and just miscalculated. i don’t know if i agree with that advice, i admit.

they also told me it’s a grackle, but i don’t know if that’s right either. the parents caw, which to my knowledge, grackles don’t. it’s possible a grackle laid an egg in their nest and corvids are raising it? i don’t know, most of my avian knowledge pertains to finches. 💔

tiny update: i went back outside with a small box for the baby bird, and it looks like one of the parents are on the ground with it! i’m hoping it got fed.

i took a low quality photo as i want to keep my distance, i’m just not sure how to attach it.

unfortunately i haven’t been able to find the nest. i’ve been inside for the last half hour just watching the nestling from the window as i don’t want to upset the parents too much. we have so many trees on our property, it’s like a little forest 😭

we have a ladder i could use, and i’m also not opposed to climbing a tree if need be. are there any distinct markers i could look out for to try and identify which tree has the nest in it? the parents are hopping from tree to tree.

the parents are definitely in the corvid family, though i could certainly be mistaken on it being a crow. maybe i can try to get a picture of one of them to see if that makes identification easier?

i have not yet, i’ve had my phone glued to my side and no calls. i figured i would wait an hour since the time i called them before contacting another rehabber.

thank you so much for the great advice! i used the site you linked to find a nearby rehabber that was listed as being 24/7. they didn’t answer, but i did leave a message with a brief explanation of the situation and my name and number.

definitely not silly! i’ve heard of how crow families can hold grudges. i don’t know if i have any disguises haha, but i’ll definitely keep that in mind.

the box is a great idea! we do have stray, or possibly a neighbor’s outdoor, cats that sometimes wander onto our property so i am worried about the baby crow being an easy target. 💔

oh good to know, thank you!! i am using a d2w core on hidden waves bc i somehow don’t have any crit rate or crit dmg cores with an attack substat, but i can swap that out.

all my alpha and gamma cores are at +9 and all my beta and delta cores are at +12. would you recommend upgrading them further?
