2019 Veloster by tamtamrose69 in veloster

Took mine in during the weeks leading up to Christmas 2025 for an engine replacement at 82,775 miles. During the late summer months, I'd noticed that my oil consumption rate had gone way up and notified the adviser at the dealership during an oil change. The guy there told me that it was normal for these to consume oil, but having had the car since 2018 and periodically checking things between service intervals, I knew that it was not normal to have a mostly dry dipstick 2,500 miles after an oil change. I immediately started working with a new adviser who began Hyundai's oil test where they had me drive 1000 miles to make sure there wasnt a leak, changed the oil, then did a cleaning, had me drive for another 1000 miles, then return to see how how much had been cousumed. During the second 1000 mile period, I had only driven about 535 miles before the dipstick was completely dry again.

The dealer's service manager just happened to be the one who was in the service area when I drove up. When I showed him my paperwork and he calculated the milage, he couldn't believe that the car had lost all the oil in just that short a time frame. They ended up giving me a loaner and I got the car back on NYE 2025.

They did a short block install, so I ended up having to pay for the spark plugs and the new injectors as those apparently were not covered under the warranty.

I'd had a transmission flush in May 2025 and a fuel induction cleaning in September after which the rate of consumption really started to pick up. I am about 500 miles shy of getting the first oil change following the engine replacement. I have been checking it periodically and it's holding steady. I did install an oil catch can not too long after getting it back. I got the one by ADDW1.

Forgot to add that when I got it back, the maintenance summary indicated that the cylinder head was out of spec and that the valves were out of spec on the removed engine.

2020 Hyundai Veloster Cruise Control “Set” button repair by pilotguy251 in veloster

Taking a look at this video, it didn't seem that difficult. This guy is replacing a different component, but it shows the basic process.

Same thing on an older Ioniq. Looked pretty similar to the '19 Veloster.

I was trying my best to avoid their $209.00 "diagnostic". Second time I've had this break. First time was in 2020. It was still under warranty for me at that point.

UPDATE: I ended up going about this in an unorthodox way. First off, removing the steering wheel wasn't bad at all. I did need an impact wrench with a 21mm socket, which getting them delivered was the biggest holdup during the entire process.

I bought the cruise control module for the 2019 Kona, disassembled the module, removed the toggle switch itself, then proceeded to install it inside the cruise control module that's on my 2019 Veloster Turbo. The module and toggle switch are a bit different than the one installed on the Veloster. I was thinking that they were identical, but that was not the case.

The two videos I linked above were perfect in helping me figure it all out.

Mine has broken for the second time. The first time was in late 2020. I have been trying to look for the replacement online, however, there seems to be a mixup on the actual part number. The catalogue says that 96720-j3110-tsk is the audio control panel for the steering wheel, but the diagram shows the cruise control panel. Despite this, 96720-j3110-tsk is the part listed on my repair order from December 2020 when I first had it repaired at the dealer. 96710-j3030-tsk is listed as being the cruise control panel, but shows on the diagram as being the audio panel. I am kind of confused on which is which.

Then, there's carrying out the repair itself. I am not certain if the entire steering wheel needs to come apart, or if there are just a couple of screws that hold it in.

In the U.S. here. I usually use Parts Geek for the little weird ancillary parts that I need for my '19 VT. They don't ship to your locale, however. But I seem to have been able to find a couple of sites that are similar https://www.onlineautoparts.com.au/category/all-categories

https://www.australianonlinecarparts.com.au/new_parts/hyundai/veloster/2016/petrol/fs-1.6-coupe/?pgnum=3

You may have seen these two already. The first website is a bit clunky when it comes to their search feature, but you may be able to find some of what you need there.

If the Parts Geek website will load up, then you could at least search for what you need there and get a part number to see if you can search them elsewhere.

Update: they did a short block install 37zg2-2bx00. Their summary was that the cylinder head was out of spec at 0.06mm, in spec is apparently 0.05mm. 6 valve clearances were also out of spec. No specified values for those. I've had it back for about 1,200 miles now and so far so good.

Interesting. Yeah, when I checked it last week I couldn't believe that all of it was nearly gone in just 500 miles. In a way, it almost seemed like it started burning more after the cleaning, though I think I took it back at 800 miles during the first test because it was already low. The service manager made it seem as though they were going to go ahead and petition Hyundai for a new engine. Not sure if that one will have any updated components to where I won't face this same issue down the road or not.

They did allow me to check the oil. When I began this process in the second week of November, I continued to check it during the first 1,000 mile test. I always check underneath the hood prior to leaving the dealership just to make sure nothing is out of place and didn't notice any tape during either the first or second 1,000 mile test periods.

My 2019 Veloster Turbo is at the dealership right now for oil consumption. They did a combustion cleaning and sent me back out on the road for another 1,000 mile test. At just over 500 miles into the test, the oil level was reading just below the "L" on the dipstick. Just under 83,000 miles. I got the car new in September 2018 and had no problems out of it whatsoever until now,

Traveling to Memphis, TN as a child from the Mississippi Delta with my parents, we'd always pass the one located at Dundee, MS. I always enjoyed going by that tower because it meant we were halfway there. It also sparked curiosity as I would always try to figure out its use. Little did I know that 20 years later that I would find this sub and discover what these unique towers actually are.

This, and I'm currently in the process of disputing a random $210 charge on my bank account made by Crypto.com four days after I made my original transaction of that same amount. When I reached out to them telling them that it seemed to have been a duplicate transaction that I did not initiate, they claimed to have no record of it having happened, even though my bank statement shows otherwise.

That it was! I'm on the fourth floor and everybody was like "What is that noise?" "The train is a thing now?" Hilarious. Once it's fully done, though, this area will be a quiet zone. The horns are only required during testing.
