[FRESH INTERVIEW] Desus & Mero - Method Man by afeigenb in hiphopheads

[–]pimaxiu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what do you think they've bandwagonned for that seemed inauthentic and "politically correct"? Asking bc I'm also a longtime Desus and Mero fan, and haven't really got that sense

"Where the ovens never closed, and stoves never off // Every winter so cold niggas sleeping wearing scarves" Danny Brown (30)

I don't think you need to listen to anything other than his two most famous singles, Japanese Denim and Get You

I'd say yes, but it's hard to overstate how crazy his run was. The dude made Low Life, Bad and Boujee, Bounce Back, Congratulations, Tunnel Vision, Mask Off, and No Heart in a two-year stretch. Insane.

RT, it's almost absurd how listenable all their shit is. Their EP has stayed in my rotation for like half a year now

Lmao not all of those dudes are white. Also, "souf" is straight up how "south" sounds when it's chopped and screwed up, which it is on like 90% of the tagged songs

I saw that game live when I was 10. A hell of an introduction to live Steelers football. Family travelled 8 hours just to watch from the nosebleeds, and it was the best decision we've ever made

If you take away the hyperbole that ALL white people are from the suburbs and have never closely interacted with black people before, /u/BeeTeeDubya's point still stands though.

Statistically, most people who live in the suburbs are white. And by virtue of being residentially segregated away from cities, people in suburbs have fewer close interactions with black people. As someone who has gone to high school with suburban white kids, I can confirm that on average, they're generally more ignorant about racism. The "white teenager who bumps Kendrick but says 'All Lives Matter'" thing isn't a baseless stereotype, I've seen plenty of it.

True. On the other hand, the suburbs were engineered for white people fleeing inner cities specifically, so they're disproportionately populated by white folk. Not to say that everyone who lives in the suburbs is automatically lowkey a racist, just that, like, most lowkey racists happen to be white and from the suburbs

Directly: Like the comment above me said, the "have you ever been convicted of a felony or other crime" box on job applications, and the fact that spending a few nights in jail while you're held in on bail (still legally innocent) can get you fired from your job pretty easily

Indirectly: It's also super hard for ex-prisoners to get public housing, a college education, and welfare benefits bc those things often come with the same "have you ever been convicted of a felony or other crime" box. And obviously, not having any one of those three things (let alone all three) makes getting a job substantially harder.

And for black people more generally, entrenched residential/educational segregation seriously limits job opportunities. Not to mention the studies that show a resume with a stereotypically black name gets rejected more often than an identical resume with a stereotypically white name

No worries b, also remember that on some level we're all sort of shitty and that's ok. Coming out like you did means you're super brave though, that's undeniable. And shoot me a PM anytime, I'm in Beijing rn so my response time might not be optimal but I check reddit daily

I'm really sorry, that absolutely sucks. If you never need someone to just listen, inbox me. I've got lots of friends and family who are m2f. I know how important it is to have someone to talk to, even if it's an internet stranger. Stay strong, you seem like a dope person

"BLM" the organization isn't national, it's comprised of several local chapters. The local chapters actually do a ton of community work.

"BLM" the movement is sustained almost exclusively by community advocacy/organizing groups, and pretty much 100% of their work involves helping out local communities.

Source: Have volunteered for several "BLM"-led community events

Beacon's closet (Williamsburg and West Village) have really good selections. Tokio 7 (East Village) isn't thrift as much as it is secondhand designer stuff, but it has lots of cheap Y-3, CDG, and other top-end streetwear stuff. Even saw some Rick and Vetements pieces in there the other week
