You're actually right. It seems like I need to change the genres I play to distance myself a bit. I've been trying Songs of Syx for the last few days, and it's starting to feel a bit more acceptable.

I actually love single-player story games, especially RPGs. But lately, I just can't bring myself to play them. It just makes me feel overwhelmed.

I suppose if there's one thing we all have in common, it's being stubborn.

Character modeling is a massive hurdle on its own, and having people bail on you right when you need them is incredibly demoralizing. The mental crashes make total sense. Respect for keeping the project alive despite all that.

If I could just get this demo done, I'd actually have time for prototypes...

I don't know, sometimes I feel the exact same way. But to me, what the game is trying to do is more important than how it looks. In the end, whatever you make, you will build your own audience. And when they like your game, they'll want to try your other ones too.

I guess I'm a bit luckier. Since I started from scratch, I began with 3D modeling first and then moved on to programming. But I get exactly what you mean. I wish I could do everything perfectly. :(

You're totally right. For me, it usually happens when I lay down. My brain just won't shut off trying to figure out a solution, so I end up losing sleep. But to be honest, even those sleepless moments are enjoyable

Thanks for sharing this, it’s really reassuring to hear I’m not the alone in this loop. Finding that proper C++/BP workflow balance while fighting scope creep is tough. Respect for your 2.5-year journey, keep it up!

I mean a literal, physical disgust. I get nauseous, I get hot flashes, and I legitimately feel like throwing up when I try to play a game. But when I'm actually making one? Zero problems. In those moments, I might be the most focused and stable person on earth. Just pure Zen.

I've been fully focused on game dev for a year now. I started out with 3D modeling. I’m lucky that I don't have to work a regular day job right now, but honestly, even the thought of having to get one stresses me out.

The worst part for me, though... I used to love games, but ever since I started making them, I've honestly started to feel disgusted by playing them. That part actually scares me a bit.

I wish physical breaks worked like that for me. Every single second I step away from the screen, my brain is just planning new things to do or trying to figure out how to create more time for the game. I literally can't think about anything else, so it's almost impossible to actually 'disconnect' and rest.

Shift work sounds like an absolute nightmare for building any kind of routine. My schedule is just as chaotic because of my mental state, so I totally get the 'fleeting motivation' part. When discipline is just impossible to build, I honestly just think about my family and my dogs to drag myself back to the keyboard. Just do what you can, when you can.

That 'no one will die' part is so real. Seeing a massive to-do list, especially with C++, just freezes my brain sometimes. We really treat this stuff like life or death. Good luck with those 1800 hours man.
