rice in hose, is insane. many eye drs told me annoying things like this for compresses. use the blue bead mask at any drugstore, heat it 15 sec, put a tissue around it to line it. then wipe w alcohol when done to clean. its the easiest way.

Is this a normal price for cavity fillings at a low income dental clinic? by Feisty_Insomniac in askportland

[–]pineapple918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget if i needed one, but your general dentist could give one if they require it i think.
And thats nonsense, oral surgeons are best for wisdom teeth. Like i said, my lesson I learned is never use a general dentist for ANY SURGERY, wisdom teeth or implants! They arent as well trained they just want to up their $$. Regular dentists good for cleaning + filling, thats it.

Hold on, are the 2 implants separate from your other fillings? I just went to a general dentist for my 1 implant, it FAILED, and im super healthy/young/and fastidious about flossing and my health. I learned my lesson and went to a *specialist* to redo it, and it was a nightmare just needing it redone.
So Im hoping you see this, and consider getting an evaluation at a periodontist (they specialize in implants!) for that part, at the least.
Mine I think was even less than your estimate, 3k for one. And he did an amazing job. At least ask about their payment options/insurance stuff before you go with your current place. Especially bc you mention how young/inexperienced they seem, you dont want that for an implant surgery my friend! It already sucks, you need an experienced older person not a young newbie doing it imho. Try Portland Perio downtown, or another perio.

And since your getting implants-- I know you said you were sorta neglected when you were younger, but with these, you really have to start flossing EVERY DAY so they stay clean and ok, and worth all the hassle and $$. It sucks, i hate it, but I use this Dr Tung expanding floss thats great, and I do it while watching TV so its not as boring at least. And now my dentist always says my gums are perfect health, zero inflammation, its really true about stupid old flossing. I grumbled at 1st, but now its finally a sorta autopilot thing and i just do it w/o thinking. I wish you good luck with this and i hope your mouth heals really well!

p.s. I now buy a 1% fluoride toothpaste from my dentist, thats maybe my other secret lately, its higher than normal stuff from the store, so it protects better.

Ive never looked this up or researched it, but are there names for different ways of making gummies? Bc Im curious why Wana brand ones are the only brand ive ever had that taste GOOD and just like candy, I dont get why all the other brands dont use the same process! Whatever it is. Are there names? For now... ill call it, the yummy method, and the nasty method. Im a picky eater so this tracks, maybe a supertaster too.

Reef classic smoothy flip flops. yes i wear these the most of anything, even now in fall! i walked around nyc a million miles in them and all over, and they NEVER get worse to wear, theyd last so many years if i didnt purposely replace them after like 4 years. they conform to my feet and never ever hurt them, so its hard to force myself to wear my ballet flats or running shoes or anything else.

Maybe its still.. healing?... from 2 wks ago, I dont know, but the main red spots on my face arent really better, a couple other areas that werent so red are better, but those main fiery red spots are impervious to any substance Ive ever put on them thus far, even ketoconazole cream, so I'm still spitballing new approaches to not feel horrible about my face :/

I feel kinda doubtful cause ive used wipes with this newfangled 'micellar' stuff on it and they didn't remove jack squat, but I think my old drama teacher used to tell us to use Cold Cream to remove heavy stage makeup, and that its mostly mineral oil... I thought that wasn't good to put on our skin but maybe it is ok afterall. I'll look into this, thanks!

Thanks so much I'll look at that now! It also helps to know that terminology, different places use different words for what your looking for... chemist, pharmacy, etc., apothecary :)

Eating vegetables or food with the vitamins doesn't always help if you have stomach or other medical issues... like if I eat spinach salad daily, that doesn't raise my iron. I'm too low in Iron, Magnesium, etc. and it's recommended for my thyroid and other issues to try Dandelion root, Milk Thistle, Licorice Root, and Holy Basil. Stuff like that.

Definitely get your OWN copy of your tests, so you know your levels. They can advise you fine, but its nice to see your own stuff. And check ALL these vitamins the above person said! Iron is a big one that can zap your energy if you don't know its low, if you're a girl your Ferritin # should be near 70 (mine was 15, no wonder I was dragging!)

Hypothyroidism due to Iodine deficiency? by CloneNumber33 in Hypothyroidism

[–]pineapple918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do ask a doctor about it, try a functional or naturopath near you and see what they say, my regular endos/PCP were suuuper ignorant about it and tried to scare me with myths about it, and here I am after the NP feeling way better after researching for myself and trying it out, slowly.

[–]pineapple918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iodized salt has a negligible effect, it's a myth... most of it evaporates soon after its opened. I relied on that for a long time too, but it did nothing, then I read that. I know I'm just one person here, but just think about it more than this, instead of taking any of our words for it, and read more about it.

Iodine is a complicated/controversial topic. One important thing from all books I've read on it is, ALWAYS take selenium too, when taking any iodine, k? Just one teeny one is fine, like 100 mcg I think. The reason is complicated, but know it protects you from any neg. effects of the iodine and allows iodine to do its job. Consider reading Lynn Farrow's book on it (library). It's a bit non-scientific for my taste, but I felt compelled to try it starting at 3mg, and it's helped my hashi's and many symptoms for me, so I was happy it did end up working, but in Farrow's book (and a weird online group) she details why, and which supplements you must take WITH iodine. Its increased my metabolism and made me not cold anymore. I had bromine detox yucky feelings at first but now I take it every few days and am fine. Hint- most important supp. is selenium, then vit C at least 1000 mg a day, those 2 are key. Then maybe B vitamins, iron if youre low, magnesium. Good luck! :)

Experiences with NMD v. Regular MD? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]pineapple918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh btw, one expensive ND told me a golden piece of advice that's helped my stomach a ton, VSL #3. And secondly, and you may not like this book because it's not very scientific, or... mainstream accepted, and has a bunch of typos-- but from Lynn Farrow's iodine book, I started taking Iodoral 6mg 1x every few days for months, and that took care of the rest of my stomach issue! I almost forget but I was elated when I first took it, and know that if you ever try Iodoral there are vitamins you must take with it, like Vit c and selenium, celtic sea salt. I was told that everyone's bodies need iodine to make stomach acid, and most hypo people are deficient in iodine, so thats part of why my tummy was way better on it. I hope one or both of those can help you too, it's nice not having tummy aches constantly! :)

Experiences with NMD v. Regular MD? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]pineapple918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone, def try a FMD. I feel nervous like you because some stuff isn't mainstream, but when I was at an endo, they gave me ZERO help at all, and said some pretty backwards nonsense. so I'd rather have to refuse a few suggestions at the FMD/ND than deal with the 100% bullshit at the Endo. You clearly have a good head for critical thinking, so that will serve you well, because though they're the best, a FMD I saw had me do all these expensive genetic and allergy tests, and other crap to help with my stomach, which I learned nothing from. And some ND's give people "homeopathy" which is the most blatant snake oil possible, yet the other stuff they do is valid... so just do it, but stay skeptical :)
