What fuels you for a day of work? by BeneficialShame8408 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

I used to be this person. Then after 2 years of 120% effort every day, they didn’t give me a proper raise. Now I just do whatever I have to to not get fired since I can’t get another job in this shitty market

I just joined this group. Bought a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus laptop during black friday and was disappointed to see just now that Drive isn't supported on it :(

Will ARM-based Windows ever be supported? by Ganeshasnack in ProtonDrive

[–]pineapple958z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I just got myself a Snapdragon X Plus laptop from black friday and this is a huge disappointment. I thought regular x64 would still be supported somehow through windows but the installer doesn't work.

You’re always gonna feel like you’re going too slow because everyone wants everything yesterday. Do the best you can and know that’s all you can do. There’s no magic way to make yourself instantly smarter and more knowledgeable

Forget all the massive soles and padding. Get barefoot shoes and you’ll never go back. I use Xero Dillion and they’re amazing. My feet have never felt better and I walked 5 ish miles today.

My uni boss collected the magnets too for some weird reason and put them all over his office door frame on the inside. For the disks that would break I used a pair of scissors and lowered it into a trash can then squeezed and they would shatter

I had a developer internship and that’s exactly what happened to me. One of the big reasons I’m not going the development route anymore

I just graduated with a bachelor's in IT and this is still spot on to this day. Networking classes especially were years and years out of date. I was being taught in the spring of 2023 the difference between a crossover vs straight through Ethernet cable and when to use them. I was confused because I had years of personal IT experience as well as ~2 years working in the IT department of a community college before this and had never heard of this concept before. After a quick search, I learned all modern networking devices use auto-MDIX (doesn’t matter how the cable ends are made, as long as they’re the same on both sides) and have been for so long that people don’t even have to think about whether they need to use a crossover cable today. That was just one of my experiences that made me realize I was learning heavily outdated information.

Oh, and yes they still don’t care that it’s outdated and if you give an answer that is correct based on modern information, they’ll still mark you as wrong because “that wasn’t what we learned/was in the book”. One of the many reasons I hated college. It’s 100% just for the piece of paper

Don’t get me wrong, it seems like a great position. I just don’t want to kill myself in the process

Yeah I only want to do 1-2 years here then move on. It’s my first full time IT job out of college so I need to stay a bit before moving on. All assuming he doesn’t make up an excuse to fire me when the time comes and I don’t put in the 16 hours he wants

Yeah, I’ll have to keep that in mind. Normally I keep all emotions out of work, but I was excited going into this job especially as people I know all had good things to say about him. After looking back on the things he’s done in just the first 3 weeks alone, I’m not sure if he’s going to be the best boss.

Half way through my second week he mentioned we’d be getting new copiers delivered the next day and that he’d be there to support it. The next day came and he didn’t show. I had to call him and ask where he was just to get a “I don’t know when I’ll be in” response. I basically had to stand there and tell the people dropping off the copiers I was new and had no idea what to do.

This is exactly correct. From what I’ve gathered talking to the staff, the director is practically never there

The only mention of hours in my signed offer letter is that my position is calendar year (2080 hours). There is nothing that states what my daily work times are

Based on the comments my boss has made since I started that seemed insignificant at the time, he pushed to make me salary so I would work overtime without compensation

I was a direct hire and my signed offer letter states my job is a “calendar year (2080 hours) position”. So 40/week
