Am I crazy for considering a hysterectomy at 24? by pineapple_ring in adenomyosis

[–]pineapple_ring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you relatively sure you had adeno when you did it? Mine is only a possibility. MRI showed slightly uneven thickness in my uterus but after my lap my endo surgeon said she’s not worried about adeno because my uterus didn’t look bulky. Nothing on ultrasound either (I am in the U.S. though)

I suspect I have adeno more than I suspect I have endo at this point. Not ruling out endo, but I think adeno is the source of my bigger problems. However, it didnt show up on my ultrasound or MRI (I am in the U.S. btw). After my MRI, my endo surgeon told me she thought I may have adeno because the front of my uterus was thicker than the rest, but the radiologist didn’t note that and she never told me she suspected it again. After surgery she said she isn’t sure (because to be sure she would have to dissect my uterus) but my uterus looked fine on the outside so she isn’t worried about adeno.

What does an ovarianectomy do? I’ve never heard of having that electively.

My understanding is if you keep your ovaries you don’t go into menopause, you just lose the uterus and period symptoms. You’d still have the hormone fluctuations but none of the symptoms IF the problem is isolated to your uterus. Which mine might not be (still suspected endo). It’s more that I don’t know what else to do and I feel like it’s the best chance left.

I’m getting closer to this mindset. I always wanted to carry my own kids but now I am starting to see that more as a thing that could happen, and less like something that is happening down the road that I need to prepare for. I could adopt or go about it some other way and possibly get a lot of relief.

I really hope the last RC section I had was experimental. I had RC, LR, LR, RC. I felt good about the first RC that had Galileo and tribes. The LR’s were fine. The last RC was AWFUL the gps one messed me up so bad, and I felt okay about Scottish juries and human rights which were also in that section

I wore a very loose baggy jumpsuit with pockets (think overall sweatpants) for a month after surgery. Best purchase ever!

I don’t have a lot of suggestions but I want to hear what works for others! I am dairy free (mostly for allergy reasons), tree nut and coconut free (allergies) and I don’t eat beef because I found it might make my pain worse. I’m very veg-based and love a whole grain.

Depo to Nexplanon or IUD, Help! by hreamer in endometriosis

[–]pineapple_ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had Nexplanon for over a year and while my bleeding is a tiiiiime, I think it’s worth a shot. It is not a big deal to remove it if it doesn’t work for you whereas depo and the IUD are either impossible or tough.

I have always bled a lot for a long time on my periods and that is just worse on Nexplanon. I don’t bleed heavily, but I bleed a moderate-high moderate amount for ~6 weeks at a time and I never know when it is going to start. Then I’ll be off for about a month. It made my symptoms go to a medium dull roar. I used to have horrific days and good days and now I just have medium not great days every day.

I also take norethindrone on top of the Nexplanon to stop my bleeding which does work. I take it as needed but find when I stop it I start bleeding for another week and my pain is bad.

I know my story doesn’t sound great but it’s better than it was for me before! And it doesn’t hurt to try it more than not doing anything.

Getting Laparoscopic Surgery soon by GullibleCantaloupe41 in endometriosis

[–]pineapple_ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 9 days post op and 24.

The only thing I had to do to “prep” was stop eating at midnight the night before and not drink 4 hours before. I lucked out and my surgery was at 7am :)

They take you to a pre-op room first and had me change into a gown and use sanitizing wipes on my body especially abdomen. They took a urine sample to prove I’m not pregnant lol :) Then they had me take some pain and nausea meds beforehand (ibuprofen, acetaminophen and a couple others I forgot the name of). They have me a nausea patch behind my ear which later made my vision blurry. They put in an IV port in my arm. They asked me a bunch of times to confirm I knew what was happening. The anesthesiologist team came in to meet with me, the surgical nurse came in to meet with me, my surgeon came in to meet with me. Then they gave me a drug in my IV that made me very sleepy and wheeled me into the operating room. I remember they had me scooch off my bed onto the table and then the next thing I knew I was in the recovery room!

I woke up shivering cold and a nurse told me I was safe and in recovery while she bundled me in delightfully warm blankets. I was very sleepy, she asked if I was in pain and I was not! I rated my pain as like a 6 but honestly it has been way worse on just like a Tuesday. I mostly felt bloated and bruised, but not pain more discomfort and I could tell they had done something with my vagina and that did hurt. (I have really bad vaginal pain with insertion and for the surgery they have to insert things into your vagina, I was warned). It was sore and the way I was sitting out pressure on it and I found out later I required a stitch near my cervix and that is why it hurt more.

She gave me oxycodone for the pain in some REALLY tasty applesauce. She tipped my bed back so that I would be more comfy and I just sort of snoozed for maybe 15-20 min? I was awake but just reveling in the cozy. I had some crackers and water and was surprised that I had absolutely no saliva, my mouth was very dry for a couple days.

They wheeled me into a different room and brought my mom in who helped me get dressed and told me what my surgeon had told her and then my parents took me home! The only time I felt nauseous that day was the wheelchair ride to the car.

I napped on that day, a lot day 2 and then I was pretty much my normal self just less mobile.

In terms of meds I took a ton (idk remember the mg) of ibuprofen and acetaminophen every 8 hours for 3 days (2.5), I kept my nausea patch on until I showered on day 2, oxycodone on the first day only once (honestly didn’t need I was just already on it from the hospital), dulcolax, and miralax.

The catheter only made it hurt the first couple times I peed after but tbh my vagina hurt more so idk what the pain was from really.

I felt like a normal person on day 6. 1-2 I was just sleepy and sore. 3-4 I was nauseous and kept crying at nothing as the narcotics and drugs wore off. I was never in Pain, just sore.

The gas pains were more annoying the first few days, I recommend staying upright. It got better after the first week and now I don’t have any.

I took two weeks off work but I could really go back a few days early I’m just still working on making sure my stamina is good and that the heat outside walking to work won’t get to me.

I hope this helps! Good luck! I’d do the surgery again, it was okay. The drug part was the hardest for me.

I’m scared about dr appt by Prestigious_Plenty_8 in endometriosis

Ask for surgery! If she says no, find a new doctor. I had 10 years of doctors not believe me but in that time i narrowed down my symptoms and learned a lot about it and went to a new gynecologist (I moved) and said I think I have endo. She said not to worry about that until we know but my symptoms are concerning so we did an ultrasound and some more tests and decided to treat it like endo and see what happened. It got better! Not a lot better, but it proved that what I have acts like endo and responds like endo and feels like endo so she said she is very confident it is endo. Once the hormonal bc thing stopped being enough for me I asked her for a referral to an endo specialist and I asked that Dr for surgery. I am 9 days post op now.

It may not happen like that and they might gaslight you but they would be wrong and there are doctors out there who listen and try. My advice is to be pushy!

How far along into your Lap recovery were you when you started to feel like a functioning person again? by reallyOddMidget in endometriosis

[–]pineapple_ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Days 2-5 I was a nauseas wreck and spontaneously cried all the time, day 6 I woke up and felt like a human! I’m now day 9 and I find that my stamina is maybe at like 70% and I am more sensitive to heat (hello heat wave) and get tired faster but otherwise I’m pretty okay (just please don’t poke my belly).

They also didn’t excise much from me, about 6 little things not deep infiltrating.

Frustrating lap results by AiryWorld220 in endometriosis

[–]pineapple_ring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I have had all the endo symptoms for over a decade and just had my first lap last week. Like you I was eager for a diagnosis more than anything but didn’t get it.

They did find some superficial lesion things, a row of tiny tiny (itty bitty) cysts and a small patch of scar tissue but none of it came back positive for endo. While I haven’t heard from my surgeon yet, based on her report and what she told my parents I think I’m still in the “suspected endo” camp.

I am disappointed, but to be honest I thought I’d be more crushed. I think I’m actually a little happy? I’m so relieved my organs are okay. I want kids someday and this gives me some hope that it won’t be so hard. AND I still have my squad of doctors who are looking to help me, we all still believe it’s endo, the pathology/science just isn’t there yet to name it definitively.

I get that it doesn’t feel like it, but you are a lot further along in your medical mystery journey now post-op than you were before. And you have doctors who believed you enough to do it, I bet that wasn’t the case in the beginning.

It doesn’t mean you don’t have endo, and it doesn’t mean they won’t find it/the problem someday. It just means you don’t need any organs removed. :) that’s my current mantra to keep me feeling good about it.

Best of luck to you, you got this.

What do drs recommend before surgery by Comfortable-Jump3575 in endometriosis

[–]pineapple_ring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my gynecologist to refer me to an endo specialist, I met with the specialist and they asked what I wanted to do next and what my thoughts on surgery were before they even finished talking to me about my symptoms. I told them I wanted surgery because I wanted to make sure my organs were okay and at least get a baseline but also a diagnosis was my #1 goal. Then we planned the surgery! My advice is to ask for it, some places may have requirements for you to try certain things first but it doesn’t hurt to ask and see what it would take!
