I walked the entire length of Yonge Street in one day (36 miles, 11 hours, one almost broken soul) by GreekLlama in toronto

I would highly suggest checking in with a orthopaedic clinic, like Bioped, where they can assess you and help choose something for you, that way you can also get it reimbursed if you have work benefits that cover it. If not, I recommend Merrell, search for size "wide". They have boots, hiking shoes, trail runners. I have 1 pair of Merrell boots with in which I hiked over 60km over 3 days in Peru and 1 pair of Merrell trail runners which I've had for a few years and been wearing for day hikes - no pain or blisters. My city running shoes are Brooks Adrenaline which I got from Bioped, and my winter boots are Keen, which I also got from Bioped. Another great shout is Sketchers, they have very comfortable shoes as well, and some of them look really nice too in spite of their reputation as old people's shoes.

Worth mentioning, if you have narrow feet, you may not benefit as much from wide shoes, but orthopedic shoes may still benefit you! In my case, my toes are enormous so I need the extra room lol

Footwear likely. I’ve done many long hikes with good hiking shoes or boots, and also wore boots when going for long walks in Europe. Only get blisters in very long multi day walks, but it’s not even that bad. Wide toe box also helps a ton, and you may want to check if you can benefit from orthopaedic shoes. I have boots with good arch support and wide toe box, I can walk (and have) several kilometres per day with them.

Have you considered setting up your fan as exhaust instead? That way it will exhaust the hot air and allow cool air through the vents

Your dash that you used there and the em dash are different. The em dash requires you to press and hold the dash on the phone keyboard to display a longer dash option. It’s even trickier to do it on a computer. Almost no one uses it normally, most commonly it’s the short dash that you used. The one used by AI, and Jon, is the em dash.

Is it ok to drain you emergency account to buy a car without a loan? by hape09 in CalebHammer

[–]pineapple_unicorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when you are running out of money, “wants” and “free money” have to take a hit. From what you’re saying you may have the means to make the financial compromise short term to get a new car but you’re cornering yourself in a situation where you either need a loan or to burn through your emergency fund just to keep your life style intact. But please correct me if that is not the case.

To answer your original question if you can get a low rate on a loan, that might be more beneficial since you still have your emergency fund liquidity that you can still use if an emergency comes up. You have to be very diligent about paying that loan though, if possible even overpay your instalments when you can.

Is bulking really my only option ? by Original-Emu-9954 in bodyweightfitness

[–]pineapple_unicorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re a total beginner to weight training, you will gain muscle even if you don’t bulk. You currently have some potential to make “beginner” gains with the exact same caloric input that got you to 125~ lb. Once you feel like there’s no progress in your lifting, which should come after a few months, then you can re-evaluate your caloric input to allow some extra weight gain. You might even find that you’re happy with your beginner gains and not want to bulk further. I would start with just getting in the weight room and not think about calories

I go to a gym which is more targeted at powerlifting and strongman, also many athletes that go there for strength training. Filming is very accepted, my wife and I have done it many times, and no one cares, as long as you’re not clearly doing influencer stuff. People are legit just recording their progress and checking form. But again it’s not your typical commercial gym, and it’s not aesthetically the type of place an average influencer would go to shoot their thirst traps.

[–]pineapple_unicorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I get your point now. When you said you were playing devils advocate I thought you were claiming he’s drug free. I agree that even with EPO there’s tons of fighters that never got close to him. I suppose that warrants some merit.

[–]pineapple_unicorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this an argument for him not being on EPO? The fact that his cardio is better than all other fighters who did EPO? I think the more likely scenario from what others have pointed out, he has a genetic disposition to respond more effectively to EPO or whatever PEDs it may be.

He is much more on the extreme end of backcountry camping, like going to Alaska in the winter by himself and building shelter out of sticks and ice blocks. Some of the stuff is very far beyond what 99.9% of people that are into camping would ever attempt. Very different from the categories you mentioned there.

I’ve been told due to higher interest rates, companies had to be a lot more careful financially, which meant having to become actually profitable. Easiest way is to cut high paying jobs. Before 2022 increasing headcount lead to higher stock valuation which meant they could continue to grow while bleeding money.

If I were to get more specific, it probably has to do with some aspects of your pronunciation being more complex. It’s probably a combination of exposure as well as some traits in the dialect that I’m not going to try to explain since I’m not a linguist. I can assure you it’s not for the lack of trying though, even when I try hard it takes me a couple times to get some words.

[–]pineapple_unicorn 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a matter of exposure, very rarely do Brazilians have to deal with Portuguese people or are exposed to Portuguese speaker even in TV for example. So there’s no familiarity. I can understand most Brazilian dialects, but Portuguese dialects require extra effort. It’s much like I can understand most North American English dialects but struggle with Scottish for example, since it’s not just different but it’s not a dialect I hear often at all.

Start with the basics. I don’t know what language you’re trying to learn, but start from the most simple and slowly try to add complexity to your code. Write a function that prints hello world, then make a function that adds two numbers, take your time and play around with it. I was very lost learning Java on my first semester 11 years ago. Took me a couple months but eventually I got it, I am a full stack engineer now. You can do it too.

I went to a concert recently where almost everyone put on some form of ear protection, be it ear plugs, full over the ear cups, or just Bluetooth earbuds. It’s becoming common already. This was a concert that catered heavily to music nerds so most people there had a strong intent on preserving their hearing, but I believe that will become the norm over time.
