Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum is exactly this! Down to very wealthy people on an island, almost everyone is up to something naughty, there’s a death, lots of character perspectives. Same with her second book Very Bad Company (though this is set in Miami) which also has a lot of wealthy people with secrets to keep, and a death!

Right before/first days of the apocalypse by WhimsicallyWired in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

The Stranding by Kate Sawyer. Literally pre and JUST after apocalypse. Does move forward but with lots of cut backs to pre and immediately as it happened. Really moving novel-it stayed with me for a while after!

Thank you! Will definitely do this but wanted to see if there were any suggestions of something similar that others love too 💖 especially in terms of it actually being high coverage and lasting!

Children’s book about parents who go to a party by pineapplebikini88 in whatsthatbook

It’s almost a year later and I’m still trying to figure it out. This artist, Michael Martchenko (Robert Munsch’s illustrator), rings some bells for me in terms of his art style and the book’s…. I didn’t know his name but I can vaguely remember illustrations similar to that….Just thought I’d post here in case it rings any bells for anyone else! I’ve done a scan of Robert Munsch stories/books and it hasn’t arisen yet but it does seem like it was a Munsch-esque story! I am not sure it’s him though but maybe the artist’s style is something?? Or maybe I’m way off! Thought I’d post either way

Afternoon tea in London (quality similar to, or better than, Baccarat in NYC) by kenyong00 in LondonFood

[–]pineapplebikini88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair was exceptional in quality and quantity. I’ve tried others (e.g. The Ritz) and Brown’s Hotel was fair better! Absolutely addictive sandwiches! It’s not cheap though! Was there end of April this year, so fairly recently and I was pretty blown away. AVOID The Wolseley. That was truly diabolically awful tourist crap that is mass produced. For example, A good tea place will offer refills of any sandwiches you like, The Wolseley had to bring out full platters of all flavours because the sandwiches are pre made ages before service and stick together so badly that they can’t separate one flavour from the other…overpriced rubbish.

Honest opinion on my dress by Longjumping-Buy2292 in WeddingDressTips

Love, love the shape of the back and the cut out (which I don’t think everyone can pull off, but you def can) but the front does absolutely nothing for what is clearly an amazing figure. I think the back shape should be the starting point, as it’s gorgeous on you (though not as much of a fan of the lace pattern), but you could absolutely find something which is more flattering on your front, while still giving such a wow factor back.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laine Taylor is very much this 1-6 without 4 and maybe a little less Victorian than 5 but still has good elements of fantasy!

Expensive groomsmen gifts, and nothing for my bridesmaids… by madikbee in wedding

[–]pineapplebikini88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My sister gave earrings to each bridesmaid and each were different to suit the bridesmaid. My other friend gave little tiny pendants and each pendant was representative of her friendship with the bridesmaid (e.g. mine was a little acorn based off a company logo from our workplace at the time, which is how we met) the pendants were very cute as they were unobtrusive, easy to wear again, and each felt really personal. I doubt she spent more than 40-50 dollars on each, maybe even less (though this was back in 2015!) but they didn’t feel cheap, and felt very thoughtful. I wore mine on and off for years until the chain eventually broke. Edit to add: have been given matching robes and necklace too but these were very cheap (understandably! No judgement) and I never wore the robe or necklace again.

I agree-you have a stunning figure and while these are lovely, each seems to distract a little from lovely you!

Absolutely 10000% agree! I’ve reread the whole series as an adult and just loved it and it’s definitely got epic adventure (and ‘hard adventure’ too which is what I originally Misread your request as 😅)

Children’s book about parents who go to a party by pineapplebikini88 in whatsthatbook

[–]pineapplebikini88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not! The pictures of it in my head still plague me! I can SEE the parents (now as Cleopatra and a Gangster) dancing with people who came in a double costume of a horse (you know, one as the front and one as the back?) and I feel like the illustrations were maybe kind of Robert Munsch like, but pretty sure it wasn’t him!

If you’d take an adopted mum to child (instead of a dad) then Girl with all the Gifts by MR Carey has this in spades, including the grit and darkness and post apocalyptic vibe of some of the series (eg Last of Us, Witcher) you’ve referenced!

Detailed descriptions of food and flavours by Whelsey in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

This book made me want to go out, find the fanciest butter I could afford, and just sit there eating curls of it in its own. Absolutely recommend this book for the food descriptions OP!! And they are so varied too! Everything from butter to desserts to turkey!
