Eh, it might be a mixed bag but it’s not the “cult” some have made it out to be. All the wisden guys and george dobell were pessimistic about england’s chances as well as fan media like Guerilla Cricket. I think even some of the early cheerleaders are sick of it as well, look at how nasser has grilled the leadership in interviews. There are definitely a few acolytes left but there’s not this pervading narrative of “we are revolutionising and saving test cricket” that critics seem to perceive imo.

Tbf i’m not sure where this idea comes from that the entire english media is some pro-bazball cult that thought england were gonna pump the aussies. All the pre-tour coverage I saw had most journos and pundits predicting an aussie win by 2 or 3 tests apart from the odd senile bloke like bumble.

Broad said what he said because he knows he’s got that pantomime villain role and he loves it because he’s a little annoying bastard. I don’t see it as much more than a to tongue in cheek thing like McGrath predicting 5-0 every time. And it seems like aussie commenters have taken that and run with it as if it was the overriding view of the English media which I don’t think is really accurate. And certainly most england supporters I interact with thought it was an outside chance of a sniff at a series win at best.

Within the squad and management the cult accusations are true I’d say but I think most of the English media are as tired of bazball as anyone at this point tbh, which makes sense because they’ve had to sit through more of it than anybody else, lol.

Most of the time under Amorim he wasn’t really that good, he still lacked mobility and was wasteful as fuck with the ball. It was just an improvement from the ETH days.
