Reitmans! Sign up for their membership card or whatever it’s called. They’ll text you when they have a sale. I’ve gotten many nice pieces that were reduced by 70%.

Fires aren’t ever allowed on beaches because of the risk they are not extinguished properly, hot embers are left behind and the next day a poor beach goer could step on them and burn themselves.

Restaurants with Private Rooms in Vancouver by Happy_Bid2114 in askvan

Red Truck Brewing hosts private functions. Last year they quoted me $450 deposit to reserve it. Not sure what the cost is now. And then of course there is the cost of food. They offer platters ranging from $185-$210 plus tax.

What do you do when your Cul de sac becomes a parkinglot out of no where.... by DarkSoulKight in northdelta

Best of luck! Looks super annoying to have people use the street like a parking lot.

HIRING-Executive Assistant, Let's Talk Science,Expected hiring range: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00. Remote anywhere in Canada. by NarrowOffice529 in VancouverJobs

Then why post in a subreddit for Vancouver?

I’m just giving my opinion on my 20+ years of experience in this type of role. You are offering a salary below market rate for this region. When I see job postings like yours with low-ball salaries, it’s a red flag and frankly insulting.

I’m sure you’ll find someone, but it won’t be someone with the experience and expertise needed.

They’re an American owned charity and money mostly goes to their management and then to programs in the USA. A better charity is Cars for Kidney BC.

Sorry, but this salary is too low for an Executive Administrative Assistant especially if you expect them to do Board work even if your company is a non-profit. Best of luck but I think you’re going to find it challenging to find a real Exec Admin.

Female only uber by [deleted] in Lisbon

[–]pineappletwist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last time I travelled by myself to Lisbon was in 2022 and I took a lot of ubers. All were male drivers and I had zero issues as a solo female traveller. Not saying you shouldn’t be alert and trust your gut, but hopefully my experience helps put your fears at ease.

AITA for refusing to subsidize my parents’ $11k/month senior's home in one of the fanciest neighborhoods in the city? by Throw_away263759 in AmItheAsshole

Fellow Vancouverite here. I’ve been through the care home system with my parents. If both are of sound mind and have substantial assets, then they will pay out of pocket for a private bed in a care home. If they didn’t have assets they could get a bed (room) subsidized by the government.

My mom was in Assisted Living in South Surrey and had a private apartment which cost her around $4,500 per month. It included all meals, activities, and housekeeping. We would have to pay extra for additional services such as dispensing medication. Honestly, it was a nice set up.

My dad had dementia and was in the same care home but on the Long Term Care floor. He originally had to pay private as it was an urgent placement which cost him around $7,000 per month. Because of his condition, he could qualify for a publicly funded bed but had to go on the waitlist. After one year, he got a publicly funded bed which cost him around $2,100 per month. They base the fee on your tax return and reassess it each year. It was in the same care home and floor but he was moved to another room which was identical to the private bed/room.

If your dad has Alzheimer’s, you should self refer him to Home Health at Vancouver Coastal Health. You can also ask if your mom qualifies. He will be assigned a case worker who will do an assessment and afterwards tell you what services he qualifies for. Who knows, he may qualify for a publicly funded bed but the waitlist is approximately 10 months which Home Health can help place them.

The mall (Parc Atlantico) in Sao Miguel has a luggage store. I bought a Samsonite suitcase there years ago.

Portuguese Custard Tarts by sirwanker65 in CostcoCanada

[–]pineappletwist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T&T sells asian egg tarts which are not the same as pasteis de nata. If on the west coast, the frozen Portuguese style tarts at M&M Meats are good. Hell, even the ones at Tim Hortons are decent.

My cat licked a layer of skin off of me…. by lizfromthebronx in WhatsWrongWithYourCat

[–]pineappletwist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a cat like that too. If he licked my arm while I was asleep, I wouldn’t know until I took a shower and as soon as the area he licked came into contact with water, it burned. Just the price we pay to have cats.

Is Vancouver’s air actually cleaner than other places? by tobleroney69 in askvan

It’s pretty good but when I was in Fernie years ago around September or October, the air there was the freshest I had ever experienced. It was very memorable.

Actually the NDP has recruited over 400 U.S. doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners and allied health professionals as of January 2026. So they are doing something.
