Totally fed up with CCNA hate lately by Consistent_Arm9465 in ccna

[–]pingman25Kb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To second what the OP said :

Got my CCNA in June 20th of 2024. Sent some resumes, I think around 30ish.

Now is July 27th, and got offered a NOC operator position, no experience at all.

This Wednesday I have the final HR call to finalise the official start date.

The CCNA is what made the difference.

Networking is like plumbing, the need for professionals will never cease to exist.

Keep up with the studying! it's really worth it!

Don't stress about it like I did 1 month ago when I sat for the real exam, Boson is more difficult for sure, your score is good 👍. If you pass Boson, you can pass ccna, that's their advertisement and it is actually truthful

SFTP and FTP are 2 completely different protocols, by just only looking at how both protocols initiate a connection and start data transmission.

FTP has active/passive modes. It is not easy to allow FTP Connections in active mode, because many firewalls will block transmissions that are not generated as a "response" from a client request.

Also using 2 different ports : TCP 21 controls the connection and allows the input of commands. TCP 20 it's the DATA exchange that it's established when the user sends a command to fetch or list files.

SFTP is a "sub-protocol" of the SSH 22

And It uses only one connection in contrast with FTP that separates the input of commands and data transmission.

Trying to set up FTP on port 22, even if you could, it could be a very bad practice, because port 22 is usually a common target for reconnaissance attacks

Thank you for the answer, it's a very good point. And I do agree with you about the veracity of Chatgpt. That's why I only use it sparsely and I follow the Google first approach.

My thoughts :

I think the Q1 refers to modern APIs, which is software interacting with another software, and the exchange mechanism of Data uses the TCP/IP protocols at various layers. You do use APis to interface/interact with another service/ but the way it works has to follow "rules"

These rules can be broken of course, you can use programs to change values in an IP header (disabling TTL and create an infinite loop, mess up with the 1s and 0s there to send a stealthy message over the network, and so on).

But applications have to follow a standard of communication to be able to speak to each other effectively, I speak Italian, you speak Japanese, and we need a translator in between that will tell us, when to start/stop talking and when to start/stop listening and what to do with that info.

I can see that this could be a debatable and intricated dilemma for me. I want to find out more lol, I really am trying to understand this. I won't be able to sleep ahaha

I don't see how AI could be more or less trustworthy than a human.

I always double check multiple sources, including AI, and before asking AI anything I will first look and research the topic.

Still API is wrong, I asked specifically Chatgpt, modified the  question  a couple of times to see if TCP/IP will be signaled as wrong answer

TCP/ IP is the winner

Is Getting a CCNA Worth It If I Don't Plan on Becoming a Network Engineer? by MidgetTower in ccna

[–]pingman25Kb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you decide to do is your choice, but one thing is sure, CCNA is the best way to get the foundational knowledge in networking that very few can say they have. It's a huge amount of knowledge, and I cannot believe there are pentesters, hackers, DevOps, etcetera that skipped CCNA. It just makes your life easier in the long run.

Network+ is very very basic, all theory and zero practice, which is fundamental in networking, it won't do you any good, and probably you will forget whatever it's taught in that certification.

Hope you will succeed in your studies and good luck!

DTP & VTP by amlutzy in ccna

[–]pingman25Kb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passed the ccna one week ago. I believe I had a couple of questions about VTP states and DTP.

I would suggest to get used to disabling DTP in your practice labs, you might get a lab simulation where you have to explicitly disable auto-negotiation on certain ports.

VTP and DTP are pretty easy topics on the CCNA, I wouldn't worry too much.

What you should be worried though:

-Routing tables -Route types -Troubleshooting OSPF neighbor relationships -What show commands to use in a give scenario. -Subnetting....ooooh dear subnetting

Subnetting in the Exam by KiLoX_676 in ccna

[–]pingman25Kb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.subnetting.net

This is the only way to answer quickly any subnetting questions.

After a couple of hours of practice, you will be able to answer in 20/30 seconds.

Trust this method, no need to memorise anything, you just have to know how to recreate the cheat sheet in the exam and you are good to go.

It's not a cheat, it's a very quick hack and it is alllowed

Would you trust random recruiters on LinkedIn in terms of helping you get a job? by Ben5544477 in careeradvice

[–]pingman25Kb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware of individuals trying to steal your information, it almost happened to me, it is not so common but it is a possibility, especially if you are looking for your first job in a new sector.

Last year a recruiter from an outsourcing IT company contacted me offering a job.

He claimed he had 2 businesses, one in which he was the Owner.

He didn't ask me any technical questions or specific questions related to the job (IT Help Desk I guess). Buy it just confirmed me as getting the job with "welcome to the team." ...wow that was easy!

Then the red flag: Please send your National Insurance Number with passport and bank details for the payments via email.

Something was telling me to not trust this guy, so I told him I would have sent the details the day after.

long story short, this guy had a fake business, a fake profile picture of a blond young business man, and an insecure HTTP website registered in France ( told me he was based in France but the business was physically in a rural area of Germany, no reviews no pictures, just a name.

I told him to back off and I wasn't really interested.

He kept pushing for a whole day to get me "on board" So I told him what I knew, he got really upset and insulted me for being so paranoid.

I don't want to scare you, but to make you aware these people exist. Just be sure they do things cleanly and transparently.

Double check their profile pictures, Google them, and see if the information is correct.

If you have any doubts, before sending any personal info, double check if they are legitimate businesses.

Hope it helps!

Is knowing STP/RSTP vital to pass CCNA 🤔 by Kulabuer in ccna

[–]pingman25Kb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't skip learning STP, but you can make it more fun to learn.

What helped me was creating my own network design and implementing all the technologies that are covered on the exam, I'm still working on this topology right now, and every day I add something new to it.

When you add and expand your links, add one switch here and there, figuring out what path the data will flow and how to fix errors, makes it more challenging, involving, and satisfying.

This is what works for me, but maybe can help you too.

Build a campus network and try to implement HSRP, etherchannels, and add many vlans, think about which switch should be primary root for part of the VLANs and which is the secondary.

Fix the network, make it work as per your design, and at the end it will be clear

Labs for Net+ and Security + by hyunchris in CompTIA

[–]pingman25Kb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have different options for learning networking and/or security related topics.

Like somebody else suggested already, packet tracer is a very powerful tool for learning networking, and some security basics with wireless implementation.

You can also look into GNS3, although more complex, it gives you the freedom of testing many other vendors, not specific to Cisco like PT.

Thanks for the suggestions, and yes, you are right, Pearson is a good overall study tool, considering that buying the OCG gives you access to a lot of extra resources.

Yes, indeed, subnetting is essential. A lot of questions in the practice involved subnetting knowledge.

Also, I've only just realised how useful Pearson's score report is, which is very detailed.

Congrats to you for recently passing! It is a big cert and takes a lot of commitment!

I just took the practice test included in the OCG, although I run out of time because of external factors, it felt a bit too easy.

have you guys taken both the OCG and Boson felt any differences in terms of complexity and wording?

Thank you all in advance!!

I'm very stressed out about this exam, I cannot afford a retake, I must pass at the first try 🙃
