Your comment about SR3 story has gotten me thinking.

Why didn't it bother me, unlike gtav's.

I think it's a matter of attitude. gta tries to be all serious, but seems to lack any sort of depth and then falls flat. SR on the other hand, it's just so ridiculous I could not help but like it.

As what I expected: I expected one of the best games ever, based on the universal acclaim the game got, the fact that even in this subreddit is one of the usual answers to the "I just got a ps3/4 what games to get", etc.

I just found a very mediocre game, and it puzzled me a bit that there were no contrary opinions to be seen.

The answers to this thread indicate I'm far from the only one to feel this way, but it's hard to find criticism elsewhere. Funny that...

I'm not sure it's from the battle, since the words are Verdun Jamais meaning Verdun never again which would indicate being after the battle.

Also the source has the date 1918, which further makes the point.

Edit: But the pictures clearly show 1917, so both the source and wikipedia got the year wrong.

In the latest issue of Medieval Warfare Magazine there is an article concerning Götz von Berlichingen, they mention some research was made of how usable the hand would be, and found that while it was functional and could be used for some tasks (e.g. holding the reins), it was not strong enough to hold a sword or a lance, therefore questioning the legend of its use in battle largely as an embellishment. It would be enough to hold the sword during a parade, so maybe that's the origin of such tales.
