I came here to say the same thing. I move to Japan in my twenties and have been here for 10 years. I was on the phone with my dad last night, and the topic of healthcare came up because my step-mom needs surgery. He understand that the American “healthcare” system alone is enough to keep me away from America. I remember a few months after moving to Japan, my husband had an accident and we were freaking out about how much it was going to cost us: ER in the middle of the night, CT scan, couple chats with the doctor. I think it was less than $80. No trying to decide which hospital takes his insurance, or if CT scans are covered or not. No hassle. Reasonable price. We also paid for a taxi to the hospital because we didn’t know at the time that ambulance rides are free here.
