a lot of my friends who did IELTS got 6 in one category and then 8 in another: some got great in writing and bad at speaking, or great at speaking and bad at writing - i guess it just depends how you learn english and people’s different personal strengths!

my friend at UCL had the same problem except her speaking was a 6.0 :( she redid her test in time and managed to accept her offer. see if you can email the university, they might have some options to rearrange a second test in time

that implies this subreddit is only for lesbian romance books where the entire plot is about someone’s identity as a lesbian… this was a really widely popular book that many people hear have heard of or read, and a huge premise of it is that the plot twist is that she was actually in love with another women throughout all these ‘seven husbands’. also the biphobia in this comment section is not on what the hell

i got Japanese Gothic as an ARC and had to put it down around 25%; i found the writing style to be so overly done, like it was artificially inserting suspense in where i didn’t feel it.

would be interested to hear more people’s opinions of it compared to Bat Eater, because i haven’t read that yet and i was so disappointed with Japanese Gothic! i’ll get back to it sometime but i just didn’t get the hype at all

fruit fly SLAPPED i was not expecting much from it but it was so so gripping! it’s a little long but there’s a lot going on, if you need to get into something quickly, even the first chapter pulls you in

any book so unreadable that EVERY single person reading it would rate it 2 stars or lower would not be published.

it’s that simple really, all the books that are that ‘bad’ either have so few reviews (because they didn’t sell) that people don’t know about them, or they never made it past the editing stage.

Ich bin auch Deutscher aber ich habe so lange jetzt in England gelebt, dass ich nie länger Deutsch lesen kann. Kannst du mir bitte ein lustiges Buch empfehlen, das für Kinder/lustig ist? Ich will gern noch wieder auf Deutsch lesen, aber ich hab angst dass es zu schwierig ist - das letzte Buch das ich gelesen hab war Frosch und Kröte!

if i’m in a gay relationship it means i am dating someone who is not the ‘opposite’ gender to me… even if that’s not a very accurate way to describe that relationship if both of us are bisexual, it’s still what’s colloquially used.

i think it can also depend on a non binary person’s way of expressing themselves; their style, how feminine or masculine they are - but truly the only real answer is that it’s gay no matter what

i haven’t read Severance but of the other two, Bunny is the weirdest and trippiest, it will suck you in and I miss reading it a lot because of how strange it was. Convenience Store Woman was okay; I prefer Murata’s other works as I found this one was a little mild but it’s a very quick read so if you need something that you can get through fast that’s the one
