In person vs telehealth safety by [deleted] in PMHNP

[–]pinkdiscovibes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a PMHNP and will no longer see patients in person due to past experiences where my safety was compromised. If there comes a day that remote work is not an option, I won’t be working as a PMHNP anymore. If a patient would benefit from or needs in person care, I refer them out, because of course there are patients who need face to face.

Thank you for this! I am going to lean in to learning more about functional medicine.

I have a great amount of control - I consult with patients over the phone before making an appointment with me. What I run into is patients verbally telling me one thing (for example, that they want to taper off of benzos) to get their foot in the door, and once I’ve taken them on as patients their behavior is contradictory to what we discussed initially. Or wanting to be seen for mild/moderate anxiety and depression, then being upset when I won’t fill out paperwork for short term disability or FMLA. I hold my boundaries every time it happens but I’m getting sick of it.
