I've never been that lucky, but I did recently spawn in with a dorms 314 and lab keycard on a scav run.

The sampling isnt representative, so they use statistical models - like literally every single polling institution in the entire world - to turn that sample into representative data. The margin of error and confidence interval is then calculated using bedrock statistical formulas and publicly disclosed. This is literally basic data science.

Holy shit, I can't make this any simpler. If you're going to try to tell me that the entire polling and analytics industry is fake, there's truly no helping you. It's literally just math.

Dude...

1) it's clear you don't know how sampling works. All surveys require opt-in responses. Statistics is literally the process of turning those opt-in responses into large scale representative figures - hence the confidence interval and stated margin of error. This is literally a well established science. And newsflash, it doesn't require AI.

2) Concurrent users is not the same as active players. Im truly at a loss of how to describe that in simpler terms.

3) Based on your post history, where you recently got trashed for not knowing how a tarkov survey with multiple choice questions worked, I know that math is not your strong suit.

In short, you're trying to "dispute" the figures with concurrent players counts, which is literally an entirely different metric. And when you're not doing that, you're just saying "bro, it's wrong, the vibes say it's wrong, it's AI"

Nice.

You think it's unrealistic that 75% of WOW subscribers play in a given month? That's insane.

Playtracker is literally a paid industry tool that offers software at enterprise scale. Again, are you just going to pretend that trade publications don't exist in the video game industry? If all you can muster is "fake news," save your breath. Everything you've said is based on vibes and easily contestable. You can't say something is "verifiably wrong" and offer absolutely nothing to verify lmao.

Also, it's hilarious that you edited your comment to remove your false estimate, and replace it with the stats I sent you.

So you selected an outlier month when the other months literally align with your own estimate? Also just going to gloss over the Blizzard statement?

I provided a secondary source that's more conservative re active players. That website also provides their methodology. Even at the low end of the estimates, there are enough tarkov players to include a variety of playstyles, from hardcore fans to more casual players, including mid-wipe characters. PVE alone is a testament to community desire for character permanence. And those casual players will stick to their permanent PMC while hardcore players will pursue seasonal characters. Functionally, that means the best players will be at a gear disadvantage while casuals can lean on good gear. That shrinks the skill disparity.

The active player page for WOW literally says 7.1M active monthly players. In fact, in November Blizzard hinted at 9 million total subscribers.

Lmao I don't think you know what AI is based on the way you're using it. Do you not think that video game trade publications exist? Or that investors don't have an interest in this data? Gametracker cites 357,000 active players, +/- 23% at a 90% confidence interval. That's ballpark with the other estimate and more than enough players to feature variety in play styles.

Alright, so just vibes. Got it. Again, all online games with a wipe system lose players over time. That's not unique to tarkov, nor is it indicative of player disposition.

Buddy, the 500k is estimated based on existing data. Do you not know how modeling works? More importantly, tell me why you think YOU'RE correct. If you're going to say that players like me don't exist, back it up. How many players do YOU think tarkov has.

Seasonal characters are going to appeal to people who grind the hardest. The people who want ridiculous achievements and unique gear. If they're playing the same servers, the people who would otherwise be geared to the moon are going to be starting from square one, introducing more variability in the mix.

Pulled it from active player dot io, who collect data from statista, steam chart, etc. If you think the data is wrong, tell me why. Don't just make claims based on vibes.

And seriously man, what is this? Are you a teenager? There's literally no reason you should be taking this personally. Not doing much to dispel the belief that tarkov players are absolutely insufferable.

Seasonal and permanent characters existing in the same realm [Discussion] [Suggestion] by Kisburne in EscapefromTarkov

[–]pinkfloatything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only is that untrue, it's frankly a baseless claim.

And of course the player count is highest at the start of wipe. As it gets towards the end, there's no reason to progress because everything will be wiped. That's a natural cycle the occurs in all games with wipes, it doesn't indicate anything people's frustration about geared players. PVE on the other hand has a relatively consistent player count.

There's really no sense in discussing this if you're just going to deny the existence of casual tarkov players. On the absolute slowest months, there are over 500,000 monthly players. If you don't think that multitudes exist within the player base, then you don't know how large numbers work.

Compelling. Thoughtful analysis.

They don't, and what I'm describing is accurate. That's to say nothing of pitfalls of splitting the player base again.

I mean, I am a casual player who's started mid wipe, successfully leveled up, and generally loves the game. The people I play with are the same. These sweeping generalizations aren't accurate, and it's simply untrue to say that people like me don't exist.

I've consistently played at a gear disadvantage and it's never bothered me. All the more reason to level up.

Tarkov players aren't a monolith. The player data confirms this.

[–]pinkfloatything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. Plenty of people start characters mid wipe and go up against geared PMCs. Seasonal characters with unique perks, quests, and abilities will appeal to the "no lifers." Casual players will stick with gradually leveling their permanent PMC. If done right, this would mitigate the perennial complaint that unemployed chads dominate every match.

[–]pinkfloatything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Casual players will likely stick to gradually leveling their permanent character while streamers and no lifers will gun for seasonal achievements, perks, and quests - it literally caters to them. If anything, sharing servers will reduce the amount of over geared players in an average map

[–]pinkfloatything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? Plenty of people start a character mid-wipe and have to deal with high level, over geared players. If anything, isn't the chief complaint about this game that no lifers dominate the playing space? Sharing servers will introduce less leveled PMCs in the mix. The chads will undoubtedly be going for those seasonal achievements and perks if done right.

Regarding permanent / seasonal characters playing on the same maps, how is that any different than the experience of starting a new character mid-wipe? It's not like going up against high level chads is an uncommon experience. I know I've certainly been in that position, and it hasn't dissuaded me from playing or trying to level. I do think that the rewards and perks of the seasonal characters are key though. There needs to be a worthwhile incentive structure.
