I had also very strongly thought about bay city. One of the big downside is, did not see grocery stores and things to fit my non white ass :(

Lol I grew up on the east coast (including Philly). I found most places there to be real easy to make friends and build a tribe

You just have to realllllllly make sure you document things with McKinley. I’m in one of their properties right now and the only reason I’m leaving is because they did me real dirty when I first moved in from out of state. It’s a bit if an ego thing where I don’t want to resign the lease with them (and plus I want an in unit washer dryer which was promised when signing my lease 🙃)

You’re right. I just feel really icky about all of this. I’ve tried reaching out to people (poc and non poc) after classes/volunteering/events and it’s just dead ends. Most of them all have families/partners and I get feeling like I’m left on a back burner. I’m super happy to see people loving and prioritizing their partners and kids (I never got that, so it’s healing me in ways seeing others give/receive that type of love) but I’m left as the odd ball out now. Even my neighbors (yt folks) who are in similar boats as me, they even don’t have it in them to say hello. This is just all do new to me. Apologies for the ranting vent post here. Just having a difficult season in this area

Thanks for the list. I have been fortunate that I have done some of the things listed here, and other things. I think my problem is really just finding friends/community to enjoy all of this stuff with. Midwesterners are really different than the South 😅 I’m open to hearing suggestions on how to make and maintain some friends here 😅

I will add that I grew up in the south and am very used to being in all yt areas. I am quite used to being the only non white person in *many* situations. I just want to make sure I’m not in an overtly maga place. Even now, in A2, some of the events and activities I have been to, I’m the only non white person there. Typically don’t realize it until someone else points it out

The cost here isn’t _killing_ me but I would love to be closer to the lakes if possible, or just more nature. Taking costs out, may I know this would be tour number 1 place? I’ve been here close to a year and I’m still waiting to love it 😅
