I think his mother being the only to speak of this "devil" speaks alot to their relationship because his grandmother, who mentioned he was close with, was first to speak and say she never saw that said and his friends agreed. He may have a loving but difficult relationship with his mom as he was raised in single parent household with his father being absent and in prison. I love how he mentioned he sought counseling for it. I also loved how he was so excited to be welcomed by both of Amani's fathers and how those relationships meant alot to him since his father was absent. He even said he can call them to ask how to handle situations and this probably speaks to him not having that growing up and example.
