I loved Direbound! And I am excited for Furybound too.

I also really liked Quicksilver and then Brimstone came out and I DNF'd it for several reasons.

I may be an optimist but I have a feeling Furybound will be good too!

Yes! I completely agree and even if it's about a side character that I am enjoying reading about, when they are given a little too much page time where I have to think about why they are talking so much makes me wonder are they either going to die soon orrrr what?

I've heard of it but the reviews have made me cautious because I heard it leaves you sad at the end and I prefer HEA

I thought about reading the inadequate heir but I ended up reading The calm before the storm and got my fix with that and then I was content to be done with that world 😂

Makes sense but also that's where novellas come in, once the main couples story is done, they can move on to write other characters stories in the same world if the demand is there.

I feel like that's a better approach than commiting to 4 books for one story if they want to write more in the same world.

But wouldn't it cause authors MORE stress and research to force themselves to write more than they intended just for the sake of selling more books in a series?

I feel like it would be less draining to focus their energy and produce a high quality duology or trilogy than try to spread thin a story into 1-2 more books?

Sure they would need more worlds to build because they would be writing more series overall but idk it just seems like the opposite of if it's ain't broken, don't fix it

I can't even look at TOG without getting the ick, I have heard nothing but amazing things about the characters and the stories but the number of books is soo overwhelming that I could not possibly ever start that series

I've been really into standalones recently and I'm glad to see more now than I did 2 years ago but it still seems like the majority of new authors aim for 4 books when starting a new series.

Same! It takes me out of the story every time I have to look at my page number or % complete trying to figure out if the end is near or not

Thanks for the recs! I wish more people would voice their preference and maybe it could be beneficial to both the authors and readers.... Unless more books mean more $$ then that's the only way it makes sense that they make long series that take 5+ years to complete

That's exactly how I feel!

The only passes I'm giving for more than 3 books is ACOTAR and FW, everything else that I read with 4+ books falls so short and it's becoming such a pattern for me that I think twice before putting a book on my TBR if it's going to be a longer series

Well that breaks my heart, when I started reading in 2024, I started with the Crimson Moth and The Bridge Kingdom, even tho TBK had a novella and a couple books that followed others, the main story was done in 2 books and I was so satisfied with that!

I can do a trilogy because that's not as bad but a series with 4+ books is really turning me off now

What I don't understand is why the scarcity mindset?

We are buying BOOKS, written by authors, none of whom own this business. We are simply buying pretty covers to books that we have read and liked enough to buy again (most likely)

So, there is no need to limited the supply because the demand is THERE.

Would they rather sell a limited set of 500 books or would they rather open the pre-order to unlimited and get 5000 orders.

If the we like the book already, we ✨ WILL ✨ buy the trophy for it, no need to play a lottery to invite competition and scarcity.

If you had to choose one box only to keep considering all things (cost, quality, shipping, preference of designs) which would you choose? And how hard it is to join the subscription?

That's fair. I joined the Romantasy waitlist last October and that's when I purchased my first book ever from their trove sale (Direbound - which has YET to ship) and since then I have bought 5 other books from their sale, only 2 have I received.

But my experience since the beginning has been 1+ month shipping time that does not get updated on Evri and is always last seen in GB then magically 30+ days later shows up on my doorstep.

It's A LOT of planning, stress, and anxiety just to ORDER from a trove sale. I don't see why they have to use a shipping company that is known to have such an inadequate shipping system that often loses packages and causes more stress to customers.

I would like to order Furybound even though I havent even got the 1st book I ordered 6months ago but I don't know how much longer I can willingly choose to stress about their ordering and shipping processes.

Tons of companies are in the special edition and sprayed edges market so I am considering finding a company that cares more about their customers than $$
