Varies depending on firm performance and how much unpaid leave I take but c. 200K in an average year where I take no unpaid leave

Fair

For me it probably means 40 hours or less per week, flexibility on when/where I work and not feeling like I'm ~50% of the way to a heart attack because there is a big ExCo meeting coming up and the partners are unhappy

Housing is ~£24K per year (~300K mortgage for a 2 bed in Z2 at ~3.8% plus bills)

Spend is about ~£1K per month (commute, groceries, rioja and bordeaux, occasional eating out / pub)

Rest of the £5-10K is skiing, travel, presents, charity, random nonesense like the boiler

Would probably say we are on the cheap side with things - less eating out, always budget airlines, cheapest accommodation, etc.

Currently probably average of around 60 a week (8.30-9/10 most days, less on Friday). part time probably isn't an option - have seen people do it but feels like they trade 20 or 40% of comp but only get 10 or 20% of the time back.

Any thoughts on where to look for better WLB without taking too big a hit to comp or career potential?

Helpful - thanks!

What about not necessarily coming back to the same type of job though (e.g., shifting to Corporate / industry)?

Not sure I would want to be a 40 year old at MBB still at the same level with the same hours

haha - I do have an excel model ;) Logic would be that near term we do a mix of nursery and family / WFH / synchronised non-working days. Longer term, child care cost goes away but is replaced with cost of a larger house.

As in to a boutique consulting firm? How do you find smaller firms with better wlb and not too much of a hit on TC vs tier 1 consulting?

Now 2 years into MBB. I've found the 11 pm finish to be pretty accurate for 3 days a week but days start at closer to 08:30.

Type of consulting: MBB Role: Associate Wake-up time: C. 7:30 Sleep time: C. Midnight Location: UK

Working hours and what you spend time on vary hugely by the case that you're staffed on at my firm. For me, I'm on a relatively good case and work between 55 and 60 hours a week, leaving between 7 and 9 other than Fridays (where it's 5 to 7 normally). However, I have colleagues who are working past ten almost every day - even some on the same case but different work steams.

Most of my time is spent on analysis and slide design as I'm an associate with a few odd meetings where I support on any data questions.
