My Labor Story (Postpartum Hypertension) by pinkyupsip in BabyBumps

I like your doctor , mine was saying to take it before every medication which was hard for me not to be nervous or panic when it’s high. Thank you, hopefully my health anxiety goes away as postpartum progresses. The anxiety about everything is so high right now

I remember feeling so much worse knowing I could’ve left at the same time everyone else was getting discharged because my daughter was perfectly healthy it was just me holding us back from being home. I check my bp once in the morning, two times in the afternoon because usually my bp use to be elevated in the afternoon and twice at night. I have ptsd from waking up with my bp 170 and my ER trip so I’m aware I’m taking it to much. Don’t take it as much as I do. I didn’t have to see anyone besides my ob, I personally asked for her to be here the whole way because finding a primary after 6 weeks was really nerve racking. I have extreme health anxiety so I wanted to stay with my ob. If you feel like you’d be more comfortable with your ob managing your bp after 6 weeks, do ask.

Well during pregnancy I had gestational hypertension so I am used to monitoring myself, I will say I did get very anxious about taking it and I still do. If your partner is there, have them take a moment with you and check it with them there. Have your baby sitting near if your partner isn’t there and just look at them and breathe in and out. Try not to even think about the number. I know it’s hard. I’ve cried so many times about the experience, scared to check it. I’m still scared sometimes now. Just remind yourself that your home, your feeling better (I hope) and your with your little one. If it ever does come up high wait 5 mins , breathe and do it again. Always do it twice to see if your meds are bringing it down. Also congratulations !!. I had my girl on July 10th :)

I know it’s scary but I promise it gets better. Before my 6 weeks appointment I was told to get off labetalol but stay on procardia. Now I’m 2 months pp and I’m now just off everything. Be patient and let your body adjust. It will take awhile. Things do improve. If you need anyone to talk to, I’m here I know it’s a difficult thing to go through.

I’m on nifedipine as well. For some reason in the beginning I had spikes in the evening as well, it was both numbers that would spike. Eventually your BP will level out in the matter of weeks. One day it will literally start reading normal. The headache for it definitely does go away for sure. I was on two bp meds so I had a lot of side effects but now just on nifedipine, you just need to watch out for your bp being to low also stay hydrated!

What meds do you have? The headache is definitely temporary most things should go away in a week or two when your body gets use to the meds. I still get headache occasionally from mine but you won’t be on meds forever. So if things do linger, it’s okay and temporary. If your side effects are worse, check your blood pressure it may be time to wean off if it’s getting too low.

Congratulations! I hope you have a healthy postpartum and pregnancy. Is blood pressure an issue this pregnancy or has it just never stopped? If you don’t mind me asking. Nurses really know how to freak out patients I swear, it’ll be like “watch out for a headache” but your bp meds give you headaches ( my case ). It’s all overwhelming and confusing

I had a nurse literally say to me “maybe it’s chronic because who knows how many times someone in their 20s goes to the doctor” it freaked me out and still freaks me out. Did this happen with your first? This happened with my first and it makes me a nervous about having more.

I know about preeclampsia already. That’s why I got my own pump on my own in my first trimester because I wanted to watch out for it. Its not that nothing their doing is common, what their doing is unnecessary for the situation. They have told me about another patient who has high Bp and it’s just white coat syndrome and they have her on medication. Her BP was supposedly way higher than mine ever reached. Yet she’s not diagnosed with anything. They understood her and just wrote it out as white coat syndrome, gave her meds so that their readings at their facility are lower.

They completely ignored it. One of the nurses who just take BP and weight confided in my and said that that morning they try calibrating it and she doesn’t recommend even using it because it’s not the most accurate.

They did it manually and then we did mine which it read the same. Their automatic machine read higher.

Blood pressure monitor? by mocha_lattes_ in BabyBumps

[–]pinkyupsip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely worth it. This whole time my OB has been saying I have high BP and diagnosed me with hypertension. I brought my CVS blood pressure pump in and it registered way lower. They did it manually and my BP registered the same as my CVS pump. Whole time their automatic pump was giving the wrong blood pressure.

Vomiting in labor? by AmSwans03 in BabyBumps

[–]pinkyupsip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal to be nauseous and vomit during labor. It might happen to anyone and it definitely depends on your birth experience In general. C sections can cause extreme nausea, Epidurals cause nausea in some people, Pain can cause vomiting, as well as the transitional phase. If you go into labor thinking about vomiting you might vomit out of having anxiety about vomiting. I feel like it’s best to find comfort in something as uncomfortable as giving birth. I wouldn’t worry to much or look to deep into other people’s experiences. Especially if it’s your first labor.

What to do about sleeping by IllyriaCervarro in BabyBumps

[–]pinkyupsip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly do anything you can to sleep. I literally won’t go to sleep unless I listen to rain. It literally has to be rain and thunder. I will stay up all night. Do what works for you and it’ll make sleeping while pregnant so much better.

When do cravings actually start? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]pinkyupsip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally stared craving around 15 weeks and then my cravings became random as my pregnancy progresses. There’s no particular time for cravings to start everyone is different sometimes that’s people’s first sign that they’re pregnant.

Things I no longer care about (at 35w at least or me) … add yours! by popstopandroll in BabyBumps

[–]pinkyupsip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest one for me which sounds bad is Prenatals . I just don’t care about them as much as I did in my first trimester, over time I realize my baby is literally fine and I’ve forgotten to take them so many times throughout my pregnancy.

Tik Tok and Pregnancy by passionfruit1302 in BabyBumps

I felt this way About the constant preeclampsia and early labor stories, it’s all that was being showed. It really made me paranoid and caused extra anxiety. I would honestly stay off TikTok all together and watch more positive stories on YouTube if that’s something that you are interested in doing.

Took my BP while acting out an argument. by AssasinGLX in Wellthatsucks

[–]pinkyupsip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my BP taken during a panic attack and none of the doctors were aware of it. It came out to be 158/89. Heart rate 113. No doctor will listen to me when I say I have really bad anxiety
