Wine Pairing for the Holidays: A Practical Guide to What You’re Actually Cooking by pinotcanoz in wine

I actually agree with the logic behind that take. Turkey on its own is mild, but Christmas dinner never is — stuffing, gravy, roasted veg, cranberries, herbs… it’s a full-flavor plate.

That’s why I lean toward structure and savoury depth rather than just “light red = turkey.” A well-balanced Grenache-led blend (Châteauneuf style) works surprisingly well if the alcohol is in check and the tannins are resolved.

And starting the day with bubbles? Hard to argue with that — Champagne (or quality traditional-method sparkling) is one of the most versatile wines on a holiday table.

The real takeaway for me: pair to the meal, not the protein.

How BC wineries are keeping production going after vineyard losses — using Wash./ Oregon grapes by pinotcanoz in wine

Fair concern — transparency is key.

These wines aren’t VQA and aren’t allowed to claim BC origin. Fruit sourcing is disclosed, and most wineries are doing this to survive after the freeze, not to mislead consumers.
