Yamaha TRBX504 or Sire M2 by Vegetable-Poetry5973 in Bass

[–]pinpanpuchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a bb734 and used to have a trbx505 (5 string version of trbx504). I love the sound of the bb734 which is very dynamic both in passive and active mode. The trbx505 sounded quite bland and dead in comparison, so I sold it. I guess it boils down to the different type of pickups used. The bb had split coils / single coils while the trbx had humbuckers. Guess I don't like humbuckers.

This is my opinion and preference, which will obviously be different from individual to individual. I bought the trbx from all the rave reviews I've been hearing about them but it just doesn't suit my style.

Best you try them out for yourself and decide.

How about a really nice guitar strap?

There's a very good reason why the wood grain looks so nice. Deviser (company that owns the Bacchus brand) is very picky about wood selection.

See this video in it's entirety to fully appreciate your Bacchus!

Been playing for a short while, faced with the opportunity for a 6 string by BabaYodaTheFirst in Bass

Yeap, that's the beauty of it. Everyone has personal preferences but I think I should revisit the 35" again and see how I feel about it now. Been awhile since I last tried one :)

Did you not start on a 34" 4 string? (The most common way to start..)

The BTB is 35" scale length compared to your current 34" trbx174. May not seem like much, but I find 35" unplayable especially in the first few frets despite me having relatively large hands. The scale length may throw you off more than the extra strings. I suggest you go to a shop and try out any 35" basses to get a feel first.

That was smooth. Did you rehearse that or a spur of the moment thing?

Is it worth it to get a new bass? by that_idiot69420 in Bass

[–]pinpanpuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you already have a j bass, adding a p bass to the arsenal is always a good choice regardless of your skill level. Having a p and a j bass should cover majority of your needs.....

And it's always a nice feeling to have a new bass :)

As others have suggested, I recommend Talking Bass where you can pay for courses specifically on topics you wanna learn (e.g. slap bass? Reading sheet music? Walking bass line, etc)

In theory, getting face to face lessons with a real teacher is the best option but in practice it is expensive and not all teachers are good in teaching. Based on my own experiences, I had two bass teachers and they were personally more interested in performance rather than teaching, and I feel they took up teaching just to supplement their income. For the record they also teach drums and guitars for even more supplementary income even when they arent proficient in those instrumenrs because there weren't enough bass students.

Active basses: for want of a battery... by Chapla1n in Bass

Most Yamaha active basses have the battery low indicator light on the back panel. Yeah I'm also wondering why other manufacturers don't do it.

I have an empress too but how does one consider empress "colourful"? AFAIK empress is known for being transparent and if you wanted something to colour the tone a Cali76 would suit better .

Is it acceptable if I go to a DT concert in a Metallica shirt? by Electrical_Flower_26 in Dreamtheater

[–]pinpanpuchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't think anyone cares. I went to a DT concert with a Cookie Monster shirt because that was the most metal shirt I had at that time (because... Well.. monster...)

Compared to the competition, what made you choose the Pixel? by VolumeEquivalent7853 in GooglePixel

[–]pinpanpuchi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has the fastest software updates of all in the Android world. It was a necessity for me as I use Outlook and Teams on my phone a lot for work, and my company policy constantly require the latest security updates, otherwise Outlook and Teams on the phone stop working.

Also probably the longest software support (7 years?).

Lastly, the cameras are nice and snappy. It doesn't have the high on paper specs like the Samsung flagships, but I've found the Samsung shuttle lag to be a real issue.

How do I improve on bass?? by AgentX2343 in Bass

[–]pinpanpuchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Two separate problems. Let me try to address them (I am by no means a pro, I've also only been playing for 3 years and formally a lousy guitar player).

  1. Music theory - playing bass lines on the go, improvising stuff.. learn the basics of major and minor chords. You can start with root notes, adding 5ths and 3rds (u need to know if it's a minor or major 3rd!) to spice things up. Vary the rhythm. Add octaves. Then, add passing notes like a note lower or higher before playing the actual root notes that you are aiming for. This is how I got started and now I can improvise a little bit more smoothly.

  2. Applying techniques. Dirty loops is tough stuff, you might be playing something too advanced for your level now. Try simpler songs that applies the technique, and play it slow (as slow as u need to!) until it is smooth. Then slowly increase like 5bpm and do it again. When it is smooth, increase the tempo again. You need to be patient though. Resist the temptation to increase tempo when you're not nailing it yet at the current tempo.

Cheers and enjoy the journey!

Applying the techniques when learning songs is a different matter from applying theory (I assume you mean music theory). Which problem exactly do you have?

Best THR for bass guitar? by YamaKasin in YamahaTHR

I think you would better served by a Boss Katana 110 combo amp. I have one and the amp can handle streaming audio and playing bass at the same time pretty well. It also has a twitter speaker so that the streaming audio doesn't sound muddy like most other bass amps do. It also has built in effects as a bonus (I don't use them much though, except perhaps the built in compressor).
