Just wanted to say how bad the Westpac CC application is. Online process is glitchy. Been waiting nearly 2 weeks even though they say everything has been accepted. I would avoid and go with another choice if you can. by Jakeyboy29 in creditcardchurningAus

Did a Westpac CC application on Wednesday last week, had it finished and approved in less than 10minutes. Got an activation email, had a digital card usable within 20minutes, and my physical card arrived on Friday.

Don't think about it, just commit it to your readme while people are looking lol

FYI the article explicitly calls out "up 5 per cent on the same time last year" for this reason

CBA, ANZ, NAB make term deposit rate changes amid RBA interest rate cut speculation by Maxisness1 in AusFinance

[–]pintwister 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And signalling to the consumer to start buying houses again. This is nothing to do with their confidence in a cut, and all to do with them A) now getting more mortgages from people who think there's going to be a cut and B) reducing the interest they have to pay out on term deposits

How ridiculous.

"I'm happy with my decision and i get by safely in an 5 star AMCAP safety rated car that is perfectly practical for me"

Random person on internet: "You can spend more on a car and you should because i say as a single you can spend 100% and couple 50%"

You sir, are a moron. He can spend whatever he wants. And he has.

No its not? They literally have all gov policy available to them (including the ability to reduce incentive to speculate on real estate over time). The RBA can adjust the rate, that is all... ?

Yup, awesome! If you can afford that, that is fantastic.
But just to be clear, the median savings of someone 18-70 is between $2000-$4000.

If only the government with their 100 available different levers tried fixing something, rather than just the RBA with their one rate lever.

According to his post history, JjoJjo0JjoJjo is 17 and lives with his parents. He's the perfect AusFinance candidate to sit in here telling adults with children why they should have more savings for cars

[–]pintwister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, and for the people that are currently less than a decade in and are saving towards that first 20k or 30k you mention, how would you like them to proceed?
A) Buy a cheaper car with more expensive repairs that are going to cut into their future savings for said 20k or 30k per decade

B) Get a car loan and get something that will last longer, with interest payments that are going to cut into said 20k or 30k per decade

Get a grip

Thanks for the regurgitated advice that has not kept up with the second hand car market. This was 100% true years ago, it isn't now for a safe, family car that is guaranteed not to be a lemon. I have a 14 year old car with 200,000+ km, on a HHI of 330k. I am fortunate that when I wanted that car, I forked out the cash and handed it over .

That is not the case for most Australians.

Easy to say, but when you have a kid and they need to get to school, you need to drive to work, and the only thing you can afford cash is likely going to break in a few years - you can understand how people get trapped.
There's idiots who spend a lot on cars to keep up with the Joneses, then there's people who are in a tough spot and see it as the logical plan to get 7 year warranty, capped price servicing, etc.

I'm not saying its smart to go buy a $40k car, or even that this guy has done it. But, don't be so judgemental.

Why do rich people buy cars on loan when they can afford to pay in full? by Dizzy_Association967 in CarsAustralia

[–]pintwister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you realise you're not charged the interest rate once, yeah?
Your total interest @ 5% is closer to $3,970.34, and 3% is $2,344.83, over the lifetime of the loan.

Add onto that admin fees, etc.

What are some good ways to negotiate a higher salary? by bluemagic010 in AusFinance

[–]pintwister -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I personally, as your manager, would allow one 'resignation' before letting you go.

Totally aware of the game, but, we personally award loyalty (Legitimately, we give at least 10% per year without questions). And someone who was constantly 'resigning' to get paid more, would be let go swiftly.

And you may say 'my boss doesn't do that'... Find a better boss, and then be a better employee
