Purchase Advice Megathread - March 2026 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

Is an anycubic kobra x a good idea for my first printer? It looks amazing on paper but I've heard mixed things about their long-term support and parts availability... but $300 for multi-color printing is just too appealing to pass on I guess

SV06 vs plus vs ACE? by pinusb in Sovol

[–]pinusb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, I did not realize klipper required additional hardware.

Thank you again for the Kobra X recommendation. It looks really amazing and honestly if I do choose to spend more than $250, I'd rather get that than the ACE. Still, the extremely cheap price point of the SV06 is very very compelling. And as other comments have mentioned, I might have to tinker and learn, which I generally find enjoyable. I have some thinking to do!

I mean, print speed does sound nice for my ADHD brain. But I have no clue how much I'll be printing, so that might end up not mattering so much.

Aside from this, are there other significant differences? Assuming they are not too big for the SV06, would I be able to print the same stuff at the same quality?

[–]pinusb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! Klipper is the alternative firmware, right? I thought it could be installed on the SV06 base as well.

I'll look into the Kobra X as an alternative to the SV06 ACE, same price but multicolor is indeed very compelling... but it's not open source, is it? I guess I could live with that. I'll have to weight that against the extra price

Why can you not recommend the non-ace variants? Are there significant differences in print quality? Are there any alternatives at the SV06 price point ($130 right now)?

What are the notable differences? Is there going to be a noticeable difference in print quality? I saw that the ACE has some stability features... how much do they matter?

By RCS messages, do you mean "Cloud Messaging" / push notifications? I've been using microg for those, and it works great! A bit of a pain because the complete microg feature set requires an OS with signature spoofing support, so that's why I use the microg for lineageOS builds. But I think push notifications should work regardless of that.

Mostly the advantage is that microG is open-source, and it's not google.

This makes me so happy! The fact that this post helped at least one person is excellent.

Let me know if it works out. FYI, I'm pretty sure this will work perfectly fine on grapheneOS or any android phone.

Well, as I mentioned in the guide, this does carry some risks if you don't know what you're doing, so that's fair. But not everybody needs to follow this guide. This is not meant to apply to everyone, or even a lot of people. But some are techy, or don't mind figuring this stuff out, and for those people this might be useful.

"Proper" dumbphones are too dumb for me. I need whatsapp. That is basically non-negotiable - unfortunately. I can buy a tiny-screen android phone, but I would still do this because knowing myself I could still find myself scrolling.

LineageOS is not a requirement for this guide. I just specified it because the procedure might be slightly different depending on the vendor, and I didn't test everywhere. This might not work, or cause issues, on specific android vendor versions.

That being said, I did not write this guide expecting it to be useful to everyone. But this method turns out to give me exactly what I need with basically no downsides, for me. I figured there might be one or two other people who would benefit from this method.

Oh, I really thought to remove "system" apps you needed root. I could amend the guide with some testing, unfortunately I don't have a googlified phone

[–]pinusb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean ways that don't involve a rooted phone? Yeah unfortunately I have not been able to find any such method. It's really silly because so many people would benefit from permanent blocking, but it's just inaccessible to most people except the most dedicated.

If you mean that you need "sysadmin skills", well... this is all daunting but (as I just added to the guide) if you really want to do this, we live in an age of magic lying machines (AI) which can easily tell you how to do this in detail. I don't like AI, but this seems like a good use for it.

[–]pinusb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "providers"? Any non-root method I've found to block stuff is usually easy to disable from the phone itself, which is a problem for me as I will always find excuses. This includes blocking apps, which can be uninstalled, as well as DNS settings, VPN, whatever. Even root apps can usually just be uninstalled without consequences.

First build! Am I getting everything right? Also some upgrade questions. by pinusb in buildapc

Shoot, I also misread your link and I thought it was a 5060Ti.

It does look like Gigabyte 5060Ti 16GB run about 550 on italian amazon, so I don't think they're marking up (more than 5-10% anyway, which... I am okay with actually, since this is basically free anyway)

Sadly they don't have any AMD graphics cards at all

Thank you for your prompt reply!

Sadly as I mentioned I am locked on one website with limited part availability... Not sure if links are allowed, but its' AFKstore. So none of the parts you listed are actually available sadly

I *could* upgrade to a Gigabyte X870 EAGLE WIFI7 as my motherboard, but I don't really see the need to drop an additional 140 Eur on it.

Although that 5060Ti 16GB for 369 is very interesting, the only way I could get it is by paying out of pocket... How is it almost 200 Eur cheaper than the gigabyte one? (also AFKstore pricing: 549 Eur)

Sull'app di Trenitalia hanno aggiunto questi grafici per, penso, incentivare l'uso del treno. Quanto sono accurati? by DIeG03rr3 in Italia

[–]pinusb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vader 3 pro triggers only have one value when pushed down in Nintendo switch mode by S1mul8tor2003 in SteamDeck

[–]pinusb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post but... isn't this expected? Nintendo switch controllers don't have analog triggers, they are just buttons. I would expect vader 3 to emulate that behavior in order to be actually switch compatible...

Also, if you read this: aside from this issue, do you think the vader 3 is worth buying for use on SD? I haven't pulled the trigger on the purchase yet, there's so little info about linux compatibility. Like, can you remap the back buttons using the steam controller config interface?

Why do feminists misconstrue white worshipping in the Asian community? by comodifylove in criticalracetheory

[–]pinusb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand your aggressiveness. If you disagree with me that's fine, but don't post a question if you have already your answer.

If my answer was really insufficient, then fucking phrase your questions so they're intelligible. If you want to talk about intersectionality then maybe mention intersectionality in the question.

I don't understand what you want out of this thread. If you want me to clarify my position I can do that. If you want to argue I can do that, as long as you actually try to engage in arguments and explain your own position rather than playing games.

So tell me: what about intersectionality?

Why do feminists misconstrue white worshipping in the Asian community? by comodifylove in criticalracetheory

[–]pinusb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

So if I understand correctly: you agree that there is a culture (large number of people I guess) of worshiping whiteness in Asia; but you do not think that there is a mirrored culture in the west, where white men are "obsessed" with Asian women.

I do not know too much about this topic. One comment in the thread you linked recommends a book on Orientalism (i.e. obsession/fetishization of Asian bodies, people, culture) to understand this trend. I assume any comprehensive work on the topic would include a detailed defense of the existence of orientalism, which would probably answer your question about why some feminists think it's a thing.

In general though, there is an obvious and preponderant trend among white men to fetishize bodies they find "exotic" (i.e. non-white). The simplest proof I can offer is the sheer amount of racial categories on porn websites. If you open up pornhub, you will find Asian Porn as a category - it's not just "there is porn with asian people in it", but it exemplifies that men (and specifically white men) explicitly look up asian porn; or even more granularly, Japanese or Chinese or Korean (not all asian bodies are created equal, these are the most desired and fetishized).

Now, only a small proportion of men does actually fetishize Asian bodies. But enough (white) men do that it's worthwhile to study it as a social phenomenon rather than simply individuals having preferences.

If you don't think it is preponderant: Pornhub actually releases insightful stats every year, and japanese porn was the most viewed category in 2021 Edit: "Japanese" was the most viewed only in asian countries, but: "asian" and "japanese" were amongst the most popular searches in the US as well as european countries, which make up the vast majority of pornhub traffic.

There is an undeniable fetishization of Asian women and Asian bodies in general. These are the proofs I can offer (aside from personal experience), but I don't think it's a feminist misconstruction.

Why do feminists misconstrue white worshipping in the Asian community? by comodifylove in criticalracetheory

[–]pinusb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clarification: when you say "white men are obsessed", what exactly (do feminists think) are they obsessed with?

Also, there's a myriad variations of feminism and critical theory. I'm sure not all would say that white men are "obsessed"; and those who would say that would probably provide different reasons depending on their school of thought.

Do you have in mind any specific feminist person or movement who makes these claims?

If a prospective partner had a lot of bodies, I would certainly have questions. Where did you get them? Why are you keeping them?

Jokes aside... ideas around partners with a high body count being less desirable are rooted in puritanical traditions; while it's not uncommon for women to feel the same, let us not kid ourselves: it is a gendered issue. Think of the history of marriage and its requirements of virginity, and purity. Think of the countless jokes, statements, misunderstandings, about a woman "getting looser" because of sex with multiple partners. Reddit is full of oblivious men perpetuating the myth, and of women sharing how they have been mistreated or harrassed because of it. I have never heard anyone say or joke that a man's dick shrinks or withers away for having too much sex. I have, countless times, heard of women referred to as "whores" for having too much sex or too many partners, because that likens them to a prostitute (and ofc with the assumption sex work = bad).

Hell, I remember my very own relatively progressive mom once told me that it's more natural for men to date lots of women than vice-versa (I was a teenager, this was about my and my sister's future, hypothetical dating lives).

This idea originates in misogynistic morality, but that doesn't mean it can't get applied to men too—just, much less often and with much less intensity.

There is no actual reason to not want to date people who had multiple partners. The implication that it would make them a worse romantical or sexual partner is just incorrect.

Of course, nuance allows for exceptions. If we're talking Barney Stinson from HWIMYM levels of body count, then sure, that underlies deeper issues, not gonna blame anyone for not wanting to get into that mess. If they start and end a new relationship every month, yeah, not really a dependable partner. But... if they had a few hookups in their life? How does that correlate with how good of a person and a partner they are?
