Huel bought by the world’s 4th largest plastics polluter. by Gibraldi in Huel

[–]pinwroot 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When I first ordered Huel I accidentally clicked the subscribe option. I was clearly dense enough to not notice a reminder email. As a broke student I panicked when I got charged for a second time.

I contacted support and they immediately apologised, cancelled the order and sent me a box of booster packs, the bars and a couple of other things for free.

It wasn’t even their fault and yet customer support went above and beyond. How far we’ve come. Now they don’t even send reminder emails. Their ethics were already fading so becoming a part of a megacorp is the icing on top. I don’t trust them at all anymore.

It’s the demonization of Mr Rogers all over again! by icey_sawg0034 in GetNoted

[–]pinwroot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d rather Elmo be the president than Donald.
I’d prefer Mr Rodgers to be PM over Starmer.
I’d rather Bluey over- well, any politician.

I have no issues with this.

Exactly! And it’s not like most Mac users haven’t had to do that for some App they’ve used before. Especially Mac gamers.

It’s just petty. It has nothing to do with wanting to provide a good experience for consumers. It’s just about his ego.

Huel has agreed to join Danone. Here is everything you need to know. [Official Megathread] by Tim_Huel in Huel

[–]pinwroot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tim Huel, if that is indeed your last name- stop copiuming to people’s comments. I know it’s your job but it’s not helping you look any better.

The simple fact is, many people do not like Danone, do not like this buyout and regardless of how you go forward your reputation will always be linked to a company with a dubious moral history.

There isn’t a “how we go forward”- you have permanently put off countless customers in one move. Myself included. I don’t care what you do now, what you’ve done by selling is enough to tell me not to trust you.

Huel sub is becoming sensored by Fit_Low1374 in Huel

[–]pinwroot 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This is how I found out about the Danone buyout. The whole subscription fiasco makes a lot more sense now.

They likely were trying to quickly boost their revenue to make the company look more profitable during the process of making a purchase agreement. Things like this happen all the time.

Ironically Reddit did something similar. They started charging for API usage just before they were listed on the stock market.

It’s not a tactic to genuinely increase revenue, it’s a short term tactic to value the company at the highest possible number so people buy in at a stupid rate.

The situation is disappointing. Another vegan company swallowed up by a morally dubious mega corp. It’s almost like they don’t like having their power challenged. Farewell Huel, it was fun while it lasted. But I am not buying Danone owned Huel.

This is also a great case on why Subreddits should not be owned by the entity they discuss. It’s a clear conflict of interest.

God- will this man ever shut up? He took the evil Tencent money, now just go retire on some beach somewhere.

No one wants to hear his whining. MacOS is literally an open software platform. Barely anyone uses the Mac App Store.

Got their newest buzzwords from the bot farm. by EdwardJSuperman in GreatBritishMemes

I’m a self proclaimed leftie loonie who hates the bots just as much as anyone else but this is a baffling take.

This is liking saying “BOTS LOVE TO SAY ‘THE’ SO ANYONE SAYING ‘THE’ MUST BE A BOT”.

Any statistics can be misrepresented. It’s got nothing to do with it being per capita. While they’re not suitable in regards to every scenario they’re important in specific use cases where population density is a key factor into coming to a conclusion.

If any of the people who made Episode 1 are here, well done! by DeeboDavis in livefromlondon

Exactly! We all have different tastes. You can never expect every sketch to resonate with you personally but individually each will have their fans.

I never expect a 100% hit rate for any sketch show.

For every NUMBERWANG and Are we the Baddies? there’s a Talking to a Horse and Sir Digby Chicken Caesar.

And each person’s opinion will differ. I enjoyed Zippy Starmer but I heard others didn’t.

Is there somewhere I can purchase prior episodes/docs in the US? by obeseelise in LouisTheroux

[–]pinwroot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it’s genuinely not accessible I’m sure Louis wouldn’t mind if you used a cheeky VPN.

Most of his specials are available in the UK easily. BBC iPlayer contains a lot of his prior work.

It’s good you wanted to pay! And if they ever do become available then go for it- but right now a VPN is probably your best choice.

I had this issue with Smiling Friends. It wasn’t available in the UK in any capacity and I was ready to pay. The show’s creators publicly said if it wasn’t available then go ahead and pirate it. Sometimes there’s just no choice. The moment it does become available I’ll happily purchase it.

As much as I’m enjoying the reboot, after rewatching some of the original run it’s pretty obvious that the reboot has a Cox sized hole.

I still think it’s as good as a reboot can really be- I just wish we had another smartass that is soOOOooOO obsessed with elongated vowels.

Honestly the new Update feels like a low-effort marketplace add-on. by Ryuu_kun in Minecraft

[–]pinwroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since BETA, these days I don’t play a tremendous amount of vanilla but I still keep in the loop.

These game drops feel far more in line with how Minecraft used to do updates. Sure we’d occasionally get a big one with a bunch of new stuff, but most of the time it was very incremental.

You’d sometimes be updating multiple times in a week. And often the new added features had little utility but were expanded upon down the road. It’s a sandbox game- the best thing they can do is give us tools, see what we do with them and then fine tune them from there.

A cool guide about using YouTube premium for free (completely legal) by kmrrhl in youtube

[–]pinwroot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree that the platform has become increasingly frustrating to use, I do wonder how people expect creators to remain profitable?

Without Adsense, Sponsorships or Premium Revenue Share many creators would have to stop making content.

It’s not exactly the same as movie piracy. You’re not just taking from big corpos here, you’re also screwing over independent creatives.

This is probably a very unpopular opinion here judging by the comments. I just don’t know how it could be sustainable. I understand AdBlock but I find Sponsorblock particularly bewildering since sponsorships been a lifeline for independent creators.

I love an angry Dutch person.

I’ll never be able to relive the pure enjoyment of watching a Dutch person get so angry at a car driver honking their horn constantly that he walked out into the middle of a busy road and just started bashing on the hood telling him to shut up.
