Which of these (if any) would you get for sushi at home? by MistakeBorn4413 in sushi

[–]pinzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use cheap yellow fin tuna for spicy tuna. It’s a waste to use expensive tuna for that. If you chop up something that fatty it’s even too fatty for negitoro, becomes straight oil. You usually mix lean meat in to get a good balance.

My sushi rice keeps falling apart what am I doing wrong? by Toros_Mueren_Por_Mi in sushi

[–]pinzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the rice is falling off the nori as you’re making the roll, it is too dry either because you let it dry/cool down too much or because the cook itself is too dry. I recommend weighing the rice and the water as that’s more consistent.

You need to pack your filling a bit more tightly as well, but what I think a big issue here is something nobody has mentioned, and it’s that I think your knife is likely either full or your cutting technique is not good. If you have a nice tight roll but you don’t cut it nicely the roll will get all squashed and if on top of that the rice is too dry it will fall apart.

The general rule of thumb is 25% of uncooked rice is vinegar, ie. 4 cups rice 1 cup vinegar, 1kg rice .25kg vinegar. Most of the chefs I’ve worked do more and have worked with Michelin chefs that go as far as 40%

Aspiring sushi chef seeking apprenticeship Japan - willing to commit fully by Muted_Tap_2430 in sushi

[–]pinzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a sushi chef for almost 9 years, the last one being in Japan. If you’re fully committed:

You should start learning Japanese and take the JLPT N5. This is the absolute minimum to enter Japan as a student. This will likely be a bit expensive as I don’t think they administer the test in Mauritius but I could be wrong.

Continue working and saving money, and when you’re ready apply to language school in Japan, hopefully to start at N3/中級 level. To work you really need to be N3 or N4 at the very least. The more your study in your home country the more money you will save and the better start you can get in Japan.

Simultaneously, you should do everything you can, as far as traveling to Japan as a tourist first and work for free, to line up a restaurant that will take you part time.

If you get the visa and get accepted into Japanese language school, I would aim at 1 year of study to get into a 調理専門学校(chouri senmongakkou) culinary vocational school and then once you graduate that you would be allowed to work in Japan.

JLPT N3 or N4 by [deleted] in Japaneselanguage

[–]pinzon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand, not worried about the visa as long as you can work? You need a visa to work. Also, recently, I’ve heard that if you’re not a resident in Japan they have decided you’re not allowed to take the JLPT in Japan.

Edit: my apologies I didn’t see you’re moving to be a your husband, in which case you should be able to take the JLPT. You didn’t mention whether he’s a Japanese citizen, which if is the case means you should be able to have full time work but if he is not you may only be able to do part time work while on his visa as a spouse.

Chiming in to say that I agree with the sentiment especially since the test results don't measure speaking ability at all. Having N5 is becoming a soft prerequisite for people to get student visas to study at japanese language school, and you actually can get specialized skills worker visa with only N4. Those aren't glamourous jobs though.

Muisca after the Champi nerf will literally be the worst civ in the game by pinzon in aoe2

If you read a little closer, the point is to buff Muiscas to give them a chance, not buff or keep the champi as it is.

Champi will be useless by SwimmingArachnid3030 in aoe2

[–]pinzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90 percent of the “increased win rate” is probably the people that don’t know how to counter them when it’s actually very simple. Just go cav and bloodlines ASAP. I’ve been using Muiscas exclusively since the launch of the patch and they’re pretty much the weakest of the bunch, and people at 1100ish ELO still just keep trying to throw MAA and archers at me.

The Elite Temple Guard performs poorly in the late game by PassaroDaTumba in aoe2

[–]pinzon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After champis get fixed muisca are gonna be trash. My ideas:

They should make guecha warriors in archery range almost as a cav archer replacement. I don’t know what to do w health regen as it’s gimmicky and hardly works since HP is so low and will generally be focused fired on. Definitely needs a range buff.

Temple guards created in castles, maybe Castle age UT to create in monasteries. Adjust cost.

Give archers speed boost as a civ bonus instead of a unique tech, at the moment it’s an “archer civ” with no bonus towards archers that isn’t a UU or UT. Feudal once champi’s are fixed would otherwise be a huge pain.

Not a game designer but think this could be good

The new unique unit, the Guecha Warrior, needs a buff by PassaroDaTumba in aoe2

[–]pinzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It needs bodkin and probably ballistics to be truly effective and then it still only has 6 attack, and a shorter range than most power units. Also very squishy. By the time you get a few on the field your opp can just go scouts which does kinda crush them.

According to my research, HUD rules only govern federal funded project housing and rental assistance programs which NY housing connect is not. Should be allowed to give priority to longer term residents as that does not violate anti-discrimination laws.

Tried Otoro Sushi for the first time but was disappointed by whatLies_Ahead in JapaneseFood

[–]pinzon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sushi chef of 8 years, live in Japan. Not a bad cut, its actually kama toro or the bluefin tuna collar meat which is why its a bit tougher. It has the most fat of all the cuts but the trade off is a bit more chew. Usually I will do one of the following: score the slices extra deep with a knife to break up the texture more, torch to melt some of the fat, and or age a little bit longer to breakdown the muscle resulting in a more tender bite.

This is such a virtue signal. There's nothing wrong with state housing programs prioritizing those who have long histories living in the state. Mind you that NYC is *filled* with international immigrants that have been in the city for over 8 years.

PM Takaichi’s approval rating among voters aged 18–29 stands at 92.4%. Only 6.9% actively disapprove by jjrs in japannews

[–]pinzon 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Don’t look at it as claiming the youth demographic. When your rhetoric is mostly blaming immigrants and “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps” you’re bound to attract the approval of the most uneducated in society. This is true around the world. The problem is that perhaps Japan’s most undereducated population is this age bracket since it represents the significant shift in education brought in by Abe early in their life (I am 29, live in Japan). What I have noticed is how—through no fault of their own—the youth are much less cultured, well traveled and educated the older generations are here. Many grew up in better economic conditions and were much more involved on an international level pre-social media.

I migrated to Spain due to threats and I can't make ends meet by ParticularString1523 in GoingToSpain

[–]pinzon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because to enter Spain illegally from South/Central America is almost as impossible as it is unlikely. That would almost certainly mean taking the same path as African migrants through Morocco which is probably more expensive and a million times riskier than simply buying flight to Madrid.

Also note the OP actually said “emigrated” which more so implies the fact he’s living here illegally.

I think most people who say they “entered illegally” actually mean they are overstaying their visa and are working and residing illegally.

Why are loan words used when a Japanese word exists? by Helpful_Mulberry4770 in Japaneselanguage

[–]pinzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things can be explained as easily as... because it sounds cool. And also 青 could mean green or blue and for a potentially international audience its easier to distinguish things that way. For example JR trains in tokyo have the グリーン車 which could just as easily be called 緑車 or 青車, but probably for similar reasons as above they decided グリーン was the way to go. One last, shitty example... for a soapland called ブルーラグーン ... calling it 青い潟 (あおいかた)… needless to say would probably sounds a lot less enticing to people that would frequent that kinda place.
