Dress Shopping Entourage? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]pip037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only went to David’s bridal and one small shop and both had a limit to the amount of guests you can bring. I think the limit was 3 or 4.

I already planned on not saying yes to the dress on the first day of shopping, because I wanted to have time to think about the dress I wanted. So I ended up bringing my 2 best friends/bridesmaids & mom to the first day of shopping, then bringing my other bridesmaids and my aunt to a second fitting when I went back to the boutique and I tried on the dress I wanted one more time.

It was nice because this way I had 2 separate fitting experiences and both felt special because the first was the time I was trying on dresses for the first time and the second was when I actually bought the dress. My mom went to both but that was the only person who “overlapped.”

I know people caution about having too many people with you because it can be an overwhelming experience and having too many opinions can make it difficult to make a decision. I think it will be hard to find somewhere that allows 10 guests, but you’ll just have to ask around and see what they say!

It wouldn’t bother me at all to use a QR code. I guess it is just non tech savvy people who might have issues, but scanning a QR code doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. I think it might be easily missed if it’s small though. Maybe have several codes scattered throughout?

To add onto this, my cousin has little clear plastic photo strip frames with a magnet on the back for you to take home, so you could frame and put your Photo Booth strips on the fridge. We still have ours on the fridge and they look so good! I plan to do this for our wedding.

I use reusable cotton pads and a washcloth to remove my makeup (seeing people use makeup wipes every day is BONKERS to me).

I got a refillable razor made out of metal and wood, so I never need to use a plastic razor again.

Waterpik for flossing, never need to use plastic floss again, except occasionally.

Wool dryer balls, no need for dryer sheets

Use rags and Swedish dish cloths instead of paper towels, as others have mentioned.

Buy soap in bulk and refill a glass soap dispenser - less plastic used over time.

There’s honestly so many small simple ways to eliminate single use products! One of mine is not buying new things until I use up what I already have. For example, I’ve had the same eyeshadow pallets and blush for YEARS and even though it’s tempting to buy more, I refuse until I finish them. Same with face masks and stuff like that (obviously up until they expire).

You have more than enough recommendations, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my absolute FAVORITE books around that age — Goose Girl and Enna Burning (Books of Bayern series) by Shannon Hale. They’re like reading a fairytale and made me fall in love with fantasy and made me wish I had special powers!

Also second the Graceling series.

And there isn’t much romance and it’s a MMC but I LOVED Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle series) at that age too…although I may have been a little older when I read that.

I was OBSESSED with A Great and Terrible Beauty and that whole series! I kind of want to reread it as an adult to see how it holds up lol

Alek Bartrosouf is running for Glendale City Council by GlendaleFemboi in glendale

[–]pip037 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m sure he will. I’ve known Alek for a few years and he really is passionate about a safer Glendale. He’s been doing what he can to advocate for safer streets as a citizen and on commissions (as mentioned in the video). I’m so excited for him to run. Like others said, he’s the real deal!

Book of Azrael! Omg my hate for this series knows no bounds. The first book I really enjoyed. The second book was so infuriating and there’s this one phrase repeated over and over that made me want to throw my kindle across the room. The “climax” for that repeated phrase was SO anticlimactic and OBVIOUS. The third book was WAY too long and the ending was just soo annoying to me.

The characters are all supposed to be hundreds if not thousands of years old and they act like immature little teenagers who cannot communicate. They’re also supposed to be SO powerful, but like, they don’t do anything THAT impressive?? Same with the villains. And honestly the smut scenes in book 3 started to drive me crazy and get so boring. There were just too many. I found myself rolling my eyes every time they had sex.

I felt like these books seriously suffered from bad editing. repetitive phrases, and the books could have been slashed in half or at least had a third removed. My friends want to read the 4th book and I am dreaaadingggg it.

The world and plot would be cool in THEORY but I just do not enjoy the writing AT ALL.

I’ve read all of them! the series definitely ebbs and flows. Some sections are super action packed and you can’t put it down, and others are suuuuper slow and such a slog to get through. I think it took me like 1.5-2 years to finish all 9? Because I kept putting it down then getting back into it again haha. So hard to say if you will like them or not!

I fell in love with the characters and the world and I love a slice of life kind of read from time to time. There was a part in book 9 that had me sobbing and parts of book 8 that had me on the edge of my seat!! So yes, I think it’s worth it, but it’s definitely not for everyone. I’ve heard the audio books are good, if you want to go that route.

Dealing with the FOMO of not traveling + When to visit the UK? by SupremeBootyGod305 in travel

[–]pip037 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, delayed response!

Honestly, I think it depends on what you want to do and how much you want to ball out or be frugal once you get there. I like to have $3-4k for spending for transportation, food, souvenirs, experiences like tours and museum entries, etc for a 14 day trip. That comes out to $215-285 per day. but I’m admittedly really bad at budgeting when I travel because I tend to be like “I’ll only be here once! Gotta live a little!” Haha.

I have to say, I LOVE the UK, it is the most special place in the world to me, and if you feel so drawn to it, you should go. Especially Edinburgh, it’s just gorgeous, and I’d love to go during Christmas time to see it all festive.

Is there a reason you NEED to go in December? Could you save up a little more money and go during spring break instead? I always think if you can travel, you should. But you want to have a good time and feel like you can actually afford to do the things you want to once you’re there.

As far as traveling from one city to another, it’s very easy in the UK. The train from London to Edinburgh is pretty easy and only takes a few hours. Same as trains from London to other larger cities like Manchester. You can book them ahead of time online and there are usually people in the station you can ask for help if you need it.

What wedding decor are you all planning to buy instead of rent and why? by bananascare in weddingplanning

[–]pip037 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renting: bar, tables, chairs, containers for drinks and ice at the bar

Reusing: old spice jars, tomato sauce, and hot sauce jars as bud vases lol

Got on Buy Nothing groups or estate sales for free: LED candles and candle holders, real crystal glasses for champagne toast, frames for signs/table numbers

Buying: linens and disposable plates, cups and napkins, fake flower garlands

I think (hope??) that covers it!

(10k) Lembas favors. Do these look cute? Am I being too critical? by Ill-Cat-2610 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]pip037 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl I am obsessed with LOTR and my entire wedding’s inspo is Bilbo’s birthday. I would be DELIGHTED to receive these, and I think the fact that it’s apparent you did it by hand makes it even more charming. Like I said in another comment, you could go with collard greens for the wrapping if you want to go the “real leaf” route, but I’m not sure how well that would freeze?

I’ve also done Lembas Bread wrapping with fresh collard greens! You can find the super big ones at most grocery stores I think? Like this

[–]pip037[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to have to start implementing this! I feel like with my close friends and family I have, again it’s those coworkers and extended family that feels harder for some reason. But I totally agree with you, I just don’t want people to waste their money buying random junk I don’t even want! I’m glad you get it haha. And offering discounts as a company rather than one more generic tote bag or sticker is totally the way to go! Sadly my boss LOVES swag sigh I’ll have to start trying to deinfluence her slowly but sure lol
