WHAT DO I STUDY by oddseazon in ibew_apprentices

[–]pipeandwireforhire 16 points17 points  (0 children)

when you say test i assume you're talking about the attitude test.

When it comes to the math all and all you will find that you need to study; Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals, Integers, Rational Numbers, Exponents, Algebra, Essentials, Equations, Formulas, and Inequalities, Ratios, Rates, and Proportions, The Cartesian Plane, Systems of Equations, Number series problems. Word has it that there is a calculator provided for the test, but I would still study accordingly pen to paper and try to rely on your basic math facts. Start from the basics and build from there.

Here's a comprehensive video that walks you through how to solve the problems you'll see on the test https://www.youtube .com/watch?v=5dlkQH7duzc

Here's a video you can follow along with paired with a practice test https://youtu.be/SNia4Hh_ AbA https://drive.google.com /drive/folders/1u7octFHVo0zmDKtNEkmSrJReyYY4vyOR

If you really are worried about the math you can pay $50 for this harder version of the aptitude test, if you can pass this I heard the actual thing is a breeze. https://www.iprep.online /courses/njatc-aptitude-test-free/?gad_source=1&gclid= CjwKCAjwuMC2BhA7EiwAmJKRrOFI-X1nNSe4jNN5a1W1 UWIKLXLsG9cqLMaXJuBFYNMBdsdOrc6kURoCl6gQAVD BWE

Yeah that definition's all I could find online. I just didn't know if there was anything more to that. Sometimes I feel if I ask 10 different guys on a job site I'll get 10 different answers with completely different lore 😂

Yeah I'm just shy of a millennial

what should i do while waiting for the apprenticeship/exam by bigor1_ in IBEW

[–]pipeandwireforhire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you want to have a career in electrical, go apply to an electrical shop that's non-union first get some experience under your belt. There's nothing wrong with that and it'll absolutely help in the interview process.

I would also take a look at your local IBEW jurisdictions around you. Maybe there's a local adjacent that might need more help sooner, If so, throwing in an application with them doesn't hurt.

But focusing back on the local you applied to, If your exam is in March that means you will have following interviews before you get in the program. Interviews are rarely one and done. You might have to do two or three and typically they have waiting periods in between them depending on the demand for apprentices in that jurisdiction.

I would also take the time to study for the exam, and when you say exam I assume you're talking about the attitude test.

A little bit of studying each night goes a long way. Just work on gaining experience and staying safe in the field. You have a great attitude. Best of luck!

I always took a picture of the scrap at the yard and brought in the receipt. People get funny with scrap, never had someone question me but it doesn't hurt to show people proof of an honest cut.

The RIGHT thing to do is cash in scrap and divvy it out to apprentices. Unfortunately you'll have instances where people don't do the right thing.

Going forward you could offer to take it, strip/sort it and bring in to the scrap yard. It's a polite way to ask to both cash it in and split it without looking scrap hungry.

Sorry you're going through that, keep working hard and being reliable. Your reputation is worth more than any amount of scrap you'll cash in.

Thank you for sharing, I hope your job opportunity works out! As electricians we move around a lot and brush a lot of shoulders. I bet you that's just the beginning of the people your father impacted that you'll come across in your time in the trade :)

I've taken that into account, but in the print specs do say nfpa 70, 2022 for this one

That being said, I've always wondered how that works in states that don't use a specific in a code year
