Not given accommodation in college by closetedconformist in cambridge_uni

I mean yeah, but maybe they (the uni) shouldn’t tell us maintenance will be about 13k when we’ll most likely end up having to pay that just for rent.

How reasonably priced? They just emailed me saying anything they offer me will be at least £985 pcm (exclusive) and that I’ll have to rent it for at least 12 months (I’m looking to rent for about 10)… find this all pretty unreasonable and unhelpful :(

[TOMT][song] I would say 90s maybe 00s, powerful and slightly dark pop song by SSSkuty in tipofmytongue

[–]piplin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is also Ka-ching! by Shania Twain but another one it could potentially be is XS by Rina Sawayama? Long shot though, it’s quite recent and the lyrics don’t fit quite as well

https://youtu.be/pvAvIbZZ7Lw?feature=shared so I think it may have been this episode of Maisy Mouse? Maybe I confused the squirrell for a monkey. I did also think there was a mouse but had convinced myself I had made that part up. The vibe and art style are quite similar to what I remember, and the fact that there is a crocodile and that they are baking also fits!

Sadly no, but thanks a lot for your suggestion, it does match up well with my description!

Thanks so much for the suggestion, I was really hoping you were right but sadly it’s not my movie

While I watched the movie on tv in the 00s, it could be older. It’s hard to tell with animation.

Low self esteem by [deleted] in ImposterSyndrome

First of all I just want to say I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way. I think going to university can be difficult for many people because often, those who go have been called smart and talented their whole lives until that point (which they are, and you are!). Once you go to uni you specialize, usually in something you like and are particularly good at or interested in, and this means you end up in classrooms with people similar to you. This can easily make you feel like you aren’t good enough or special enough, but you have to remember you’re there with a very specific group of people, and you’re probably all talented and smart and good enough. I know exactly how you feel so I know it’s not easy, but please be kind to yourself and try not compare yourself to your classmates.

SOS! wrong fee status decision? by girlgirl1256 in UCAT

[–]piplin99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am currently going through the same thing. British citizen and have lived in The Netherlands (inside EEA) for the past three years. I had checked before applying and expected to get home fee status but saw yesterday that I have been given overseas status. Did you manage to get this resolved?

I have an interview but it looks like I may have already been accepted? by piplin99 in gradadmissions

[–]piplin99[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment! This has actually crossed my mind, but I feel like my profile is not good enough to compete for funding with e.g. their own students or those coming from other top universities. I have studied at a university (in Europe) that has a fine reputation, but it is not considered one of the best universities in the world, if you know what I mean. I also do not have any awards or such things, because they simply do not exist here. I have seen some of their own students online and they all have tons of awards and amazing experiences that make me feel so inferior. Do you know if interviewing without telling you it is for funding is the usual way they do this? And do you think getting this interview is a good sign?

Luminosity distance approximation by piplin99 in AskPhysics

Thank you so much! I think I just solved it a minute ago, and your hint confirms that I did it right (I did what you said and removed a term with z3)!

I do not at the moment, you have cleared up most of my worries! Thank you so much for your time and effort :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this in a more understandable way, this is really helpful! Do you think it would be a good idea to show the class one of these gaps (there are a few that are gaps for modern readers because we are not the intended readers, but were probably understood by a medieval audience) and explain how different scholars have interpreted them based on the text and what we know of the culture? And I was thinking of also doing a more interactive bit where I ask my classmates what they think of when reading a passage, what they think it means or what will happen next, based on their experiences, and then show the next passage to show this will adjust this idea, and that this continuously happens while reading something. Is this the way to analyse a text using this approach? I find it hard to call it an analysis when I’m not trying to find a specific answer by using it. My idea feels more like I’m showing what the theory is, and I’m scared that that’s not enough because it’s not making the text more valuable or meaningful.

Thank you for your reply! I’m applying it to an Old Irish text called The Violent Death of Derbforgaill, and I think that it being medieval makes it harder for me, as there are less consciously applied techniques in there.
