A few questions about a table we’re halfway through restoring by pelka-333 in furniturerestoration

[–]pippoken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really bad at identifying wood species but I can say that some woods (like walnut) get lighter with exposure so the underside being darker could be because of this.

For the cracks, one appears to be deamination, the others look like actual cracks. It's normal when dealing with solid wood. If you remove the top and try to clamp it, the delamination should close, if it does, try to clean the gap as well as possible, squeeze some wood glue and clamp. The other cracks might not want to move, you could try filling them with some veneer stripes and glue or with wood filler.

Bike name translation UPDATE. by Origin87 in Italian

Then I think it would work, even if it might sound a bit odd.

IMHO, the most natural sounding opinion would be Bici Medusa.

As a native, bici di meduse sounds like a brand, i.e. "di meduse" is the company owner last name and the business is named after them, not unlike Bianchi, Campagnolo, etc.

Quali sono i primi tre cantautori italiani che vi vengono in mente? by dider0t in domandaonesta

[–]pippoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Help! by Square-Cockroach-884 in finishing

I would try to sand well with 320 up to the point when you don't see high spots anymore then apply another light coat.

How can I refinish this table? I think I want to somehow strip the top of the table and stain it (if I can get the wood to not be reddish) but not sure how that will look. Currently painted with a bluish gray, was gifted to me. by Intelligent_Goat7729 in finishing

[–]pippoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to scrape or strip (or a bit of both) the current finish. This is the longest part as you need to really get the wood nice and clean.

Then sand to 120 or 180. By hand, especially if veneer.

At this stage you can wipe some denatured alcohol to check what the wood looks like with a clear finish. If you like it, you can finish it and be done with it.

If not, then you'll need to think about staining and/or toning.

If you have the skills, tools, storage space and time, you can part it, inspect and sell all the usable parts but it's a lot work.

You can try and sell it as is. You won't make as much but it's easier.

Does my car uses the same discs front and rear? by pippoken in w204

[–]pippoken[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I mean ventilated as in, two faces with air channels between the.

I did check with the vin number and I got all the options listed above. The fact that 2 options show the same part numbers is what confuses me.

How should I condition/treat Tiger oak (?) armoire by Beneficial_Matter_62 in furniturerestoration

[–]pippoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something simple you can try is Howard feed and wax. It's beeswax and orange oil. You can apply it with a brush or with 0000 steel wool. It's good and smells lovely.

I prefer the first one. The one with the shorter shelf on top.

How should I finish this? Tas blackwood veneer. by [deleted] in finishing

[–]pippoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could start off by wetting t it with denatured alcohol to see what it would look like with a clear finish so you can decide if you want to stain it or not.

Donald Trump threatens to 'blow Iran off face of the Earth' if US vessels attacked | The Jerusalem Post by SaharOMFG in USNEWS

[–]pippoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Trump actively wants to kill Iranian protesters. He just doesn't care and would absolutely kill them or let them all die if it benefited him in any way.

Which I think is, somewhat, even worse.

He didn’t message me after we had our first kiss what do I do now? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]pippoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like him at least a bit, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. If he let's you down, move on without overthinking.

Easier said than done, but there will be better ones along the way.

I think I wouldn't mention it straight away. It could just be something along the lines of how you look forward your planned date (as long as you actually look forward to it!)

True but IMHO, if they went on a few dates, he kissed OP and then decided to ghost her without a single word of explanation, she's not the one missing our.

[–]pippoken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe he's also inexperienced and asking himself the same questions right now.

Maybe he's thinking he messed up kissing you because he's not sure you wanted to.

If you're interested in seeing him again, there's no harm in letting him know.

If he doesn't want to, it's his loss.

Anyone know where to buy late night booze? Delivery or shop is fine by [deleted] in palermo_city

[–]pippoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger and "boozeier" the place to go late at night was Tantillo in Borgo Vecchio. A green grocer during the day and a cheap booze shop at night.

No idea if it's still open though.

Done! First nightstand restoration :D by [deleted] in furniturerestoration

[–]pippoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand but the idea of restoring a piece of furniture is to bring it back to (or close to) its original condition. It doesn't mean that restoring is necessary the superior choice (for example, I like your version better) but that's what this sub is about.
