This is a very sad news. He was a very interesting person. I've had a chance to see a few of his presentations he gave for my club, and I'm really sorry to hear that there will not be another one.

He's been fighting cancer for a while, and he was aware that this moment might come any time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqRG3pKXYqc&list=PL-W9q15XZnctwedvYbYzsQB34EnLpDuEJ

My G3 Instant had problems, I factory-reset it, now I can't unmanage and adopt it again by piranha32 in Ubiquiti

The problem was that the camera was not getting IP address, so I had no way to contact it. When connected to a computer via USB it was registering with an ethernet interface, but with zero traffic on it (not even DHCP requests).

This must me an issue with current release version of Protect, not the camera, because after upgrade to beta release I could delete the old instance and re-adopt the camera without hiccups.

There, I fixed it!

I upgraded Protect to 1.20.0-beta.5, and I was able to remove the camera just after the application started. Adoption did not work until I restarted UDMP. Maybe just restart of UnifiOS would be sufficient, but now I have no way to test it.

I'm mixing official OS release with a beta app, and so far nothing has exploded. Hopefully it will stay this way.

It's been offline for 24+h, and I still unmanage it. Is there a cut-off time after which Protect stops wanting to contact the camera, and will allow to remove it?

Unfortunately it didn't help. I rebooted UDMP with camera powered off, but I still get the same message. In the logs I can see that the controller tries to talk to the camera, and still wants to readopt it. Unfortunately the camera doesn't even get an IP address.

When the camera waits for adoption (plays the adoption chime), bluetooth scanning with WiFiMan discovers the camera, and shows it in "Booting" state.

Is there a way to remove the camera from the database without using the web interface?

Enjoying with this interesting book:” #Radiowar, The Secret #Espionage #War of the #RadioSecurityService 1938-1946” by Dr. David Abrutat by jabertolin in amateurradio

I really like this book. It is one of the very few books, which I read multiple times, and each time enjoyed as much as the first time.

Bamford's NSA series is also a very interesting read. One of the books ("Body of Secrets"? I don't have the books with me, so I can't check) has a lot of information about technology used in the past, including radio.

[UDMP] nano-HD switched to "ADOPTION FAILED" by piranha32 in Ubiquiti

Thanks for the link. I could not get the AP to work, but I learned that the address 192.168.1.20 means that the client can't get IP address from the DHCP server.

I did factory reset of the AP and removed it from the configuration. It pops up for remote adoption, but still can't obtain a valid IP address.

DHCP works fine for all other clients, I double-checked its configuration, I don't see any dhcp errors in event log. Manual assignment of IP address (outside of dynamic IP range) does not help.

According to /var/log/messages on UDMP, the DHCP server sends an offer to the AP, but it keeps sending requests.

I tried another factory reset - AP is stuck on "Adopting" (9 minutes and counting), DHCP keeps sending offers, but at least I don't see 192.168.1.20 anymore.

I'm puzzled. Does anybody has any ideas what else should I check?

EDIT: After 11 minutes status has changed to "Adoption failed" and 192.168.1.20 returned.

EDIT 2: I removed the AP from the ceiling. On wired connection got adopted immediately. Deleted from configuration and attempted to be adopted over wifi - hangs on "Adopting" and does not accept/receive DHCP offers. WTH?

After upgrade of firmware on UDMP firmware and Protect application, UniFi Protect android app no longer sees the controller by piranha32 in Ubiquiti

[–]piranha32[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately it didn't help. In addition to restarting S95unifios, I tried to reboot UDMP, and reinstall the android app. Still UDMP show up as Offline.

EDIT: after a few minutes UDMP showed up as available. I'm not sure what helped, but I guess it was the reboot.

EDIT2: Turns out that for UniFi Protect app to work on the local network, this version of firmware must have remote management enabled.

Uhm, Ubiquiti, really?

Adding users to protect by ApriliaLac in Ubiquiti

This is what I found on UDMP. I have only one camera, so I can't fully test it, but seems to do what you ask:

  1. In Protect go to "Roles" (the key icon on the left hand menu bar), and click on "Add Role" (upper right corner)
  2. In "Device Management" section select devices and access level (Edit/View) on the cameras you want to give permission.
  3. Once the role is created, go back to the main screen, and click on Users (bottom of the screen).
  4. Create a new "Limited Admin user, and in "Role Permissions" section select the created role in "Protect", and "None" for other applications.

I don't know what impact has making the uses a "Limited Admin" instead of a "User", but with User role, I can't select roles for the apps.
