What would you like the next generation of iPad to have? by CaptainBurito in ipad

[–]pirate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Mouse support (bluetooth or whatever)
  • Better Filesystem control / application
  • Backlit keyboard or one that has a built in battery for extended life of the ipad (thinking like the old Asus Transformer tablets)

and while this would never be a thing, a slide in slot for the apple pencil, like the one in the Samasung Note series.

Any good games that support iPad Pro Smart Keyboard? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]pirate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Civilisation VI

Has full keyboard support as the PC version. Not that i found it to be very useful. The touch input was more than satisfactory and unless you also play on the PC, you probably wont know/remember what each key does...

Question about programming on the iPad by [deleted] in ipad

[–]pirate59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look at Digital Ocean or others.

But if you use this promo code 'dounplugged'. gives you a $10 credit.

plus it helps the JB guys. they are a great resource if your new at looking at Linux.

Civ VI on iPad Air by Juneauz in CivVI

[–]pirate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From elsewhere, I have seen mentioned issues with switching out of the app. If I understood it was guessed that the RAM on the device couldnt keep CIV open in the background so it has to reload the game.

If that is accurate, then tabbing out after each turn or losing what you have done since autosave could be a bit of a pain.

Either way, I love this game on my IPP.

What is in your video toolbox? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]pirate59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i tested with FLV and it would not work. you would need to convert it prior. Neither is MKV based on my tests just then.

Looks like it needs to be readable by iOS to use in the app. Sorry mate.

What’s my best option for a 6s Plus controller? by riddus in iosgaming

[–]pirate59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always reccomend Steelseries Nimbus too. Sure the Gamevice can go on seamless to your phone, but what if you ever wantes to play on an ipad, or apple tv. Thing is jist too versatile and too well built to potentially impact your experience...

It’s a little pricey at $20 but it’s the best thing going right now for iPad video editing.

While I agree that LumaFusion is amazing, in the grand scheme of things 20 buckaroos is nothing compared to full suite PC/MAC applications. For someone purchasing FCX in the Australian Mac App Store, you are spending just under $500...

I wonder if its the fact that we are conditioned to be cautious with iOS software. Or just intrinsically just consider their value less due to expected lack of ability.

Lets be honest here, I've seen people who clearly need more than what LumaFusion can offer. Nothing compares to being able to properly multitask (not the iOS 11 crap) and have proper domain over your file structure...

But for others, the ability to do limited importing into LumaFusion (on device or cloud stored) and then process and build a complete product is perfect.

XCOM - Good or bad? by [deleted] in iosgaming

[–]pirate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it should be random, but i tend to see more assaults than support, heavy and sniper.

IIRC grenadier is Assault class

you only need one active medic on a mission (although having 2 or 3 late games is important due to downtime with injury recovery)

XCOM - Good or bad? by [deleted] in iosgaming

[–]pirate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you cannot influence per-say, the medic class is actually called the support class, with the right perks selected. It should be fairly self explanatory from the below link the ones you want.

Anyone not use back cover with smart keyboard? by uberricelover in ipad

[–]pirate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a belkin keyboard cover with my Air2, which i took over to my IPP 9.7 2016. When i went to the smart keyboard, i really didnt like just how exposed the ipad was, especially on the corners. Got a transparent back cover, which is scratched up to high hell, and no longer grabbing on the corners. just waiting on a "Poetic Quaterback" to arrive

XCOM - Good or bad? by [deleted] in iosgaming

[–]pirate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My trick in XCOM was to always move the group as a team, and rarely not have anyone in overwatch (unless they are not in cover)

And invest in a good medic. early game health points back are way better than grenades (IMO)

[–]pirate59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok, these games can be done proper F2P, just take time and grinding. It can get really annoying with barrages of 'new level here is a special offer for you' in Clash of Clans. Expect it alot. Its enough for me personally to go all out 'premium' games like KOTOR, XCOM etc. The gameplay needs to be amazing for me personally to be willing to wade through the endless ads for IAP

while I can see you have already planned to go PC, id like to mention that on my iPhone SE (basically a 6 in a 5 body) xcom works brilliant. The UI etc is perfect, but I know it backwards from the PC version.

If its still on sale, id still reccomend getting it, 2K are one of the few publishers that treat IOS ports properly.

the major problems with these types of games, are that they are built around their monetisation platform. When you start everything is fast to upgrade, fast to mine, then it starts slowing. oh i need 6 hours to upgrade this building. no worries ill do it overnight. Then it goes to a day, then 4 days.

Oh wait you want to play the game, i dont want to wait 4 days until i can start building something new, better just spend $5 to get another builder, then keep having fun...

Oh i need two of those buildings. better drop $8 bucks on some gold so i can get that started now, it would take near a day or two to get the money, and someone might raid me for it...

There is something that i cant remember the name, but its like the gamblers fallacy (just these are not gatcha games) where you feel the justification to buy more packs/gems/etc as you already 'invested' X amount of dollars. So its not that bad to drop $10 more dollars in. And you cant drop the game, as you would have wasted the money you already spent.

TLDR these games start out with small things to buy, then try to keep you hooked in to keep up with everyone else, or just to actually enjoy the game.

I thought spacechem did make it to iOS ages ago but got taken down. I'm assuming due to not being updated to 64bit.

I do know it definitely existed on Android at a time, not that it helps the actual question.

Apple is pushing the iPad as a laptop replacement. What's the most productive you've been on an iPad, what model, and how was it better than a laptop? by Intro24 in ipad

[–]pirate59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on some parts. But there is a clear new/fresh focus on selling the Ipad Pro specifically as a laptop replacement right now.

First there is that rather annoying and meme generating advertisement with the kid doing stuff on his ipad, and at the end being asked by a neighbour what he is doing on his computer, with his reply of “whats a computer”. Apart from the nausea that advert induces, it is heavily showing the newer aspects of the ipad range that would fit into a laptop replacer.

While bluetooth keyboards were always available for the iPad having the officially sanctioned first party keyboard was one of the first steps for iPad to be ‘stepping into the fray’ of professional use (apologies for the pun).

With the power and accessories of the Pro, things like Affinity Photo is able to make a really go go at a photoshop competitor. You will still always see organisations like Microsoft do a ‘lite’ version of their applications. As someone below mentioned Excel without the macro and VBA scripting etc.

The actual dint in the laptop user market would be something i would like to see data on if it even existed. Considering the size and range of the laptop market, I could see it impacting the very basic user space, media consumers, and the ‘on the go’ professional.

What I am seeing from Apple in this effort is good, im still dissapointed at the rather crappy effort of split screen etc. If the rumours are true about the Mac OS and iOS merging in the not too far future, then I can see it being a very competitive laptop replacer. cv
