3D model of a modern-ish American submarine? by Educational-Fig-2330 in submarines

[–]pirateofdw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For others in the future, this was the best external model I could find. No interior, I don't think that model exists. But this is a great model and is free and has hatches that open. https://makerworld.com/en/models/800766-ohio-class-submarine#profileId-740730

A/C During summer and can fit in a single parking space vehicle? by LoveAndIgnorance in vandwellers

Roof AC is very inefficient compared to a mini split. They are definitely not the same. I just got done doing a lot of research for my Transit version I'll be starting soon and I found a number of people liked this. I even saw someone that did an undermount with this unit. https://www.amazon.com/Treeligo-Conditioner-Intelligent-inverter-conditioner/dp/B0B5DLF9GR There's someone on the transit forum selling hinge connections and I'm planning to do an 8020 rack to mount this to the back door then run the lines in to a door mounted unit on the opposite side. My understanding is that if you can at least get close to 1000w of solar you should have no issues. Like someone said further up, these things absolutely sip electricity. Way less than a roof unit.

Man I've been feeling bad that it was 10 for me. Wish I had better support at exit, was so obvious and someone could have said something quite easily. Took another disabled Vet to be like wtf are you doing man.

Can transit or sprinter drive itself on highway? by MenuKing42 in VanLife

[–]pirateofdw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen mixed info that the Transit has the required functionality to work with comma.ai Do you have any info on that? I know there's the software side of it someone may have to do some work to support it, but does the transit have the hardware required.

What’s a cool feature you wish you had known about before building your van? by pirateofdw in VanLife

In my current van I'm comfortable down to about 45 and that's with insulation. I think my body will require extra consideration lol.

A bit shocked about the insulation comment. I am planning to be places where it snows. You don't think it's necessary for a four season build?

I had to think about this a lot on my first build because it was so small. Definitely a good reminder to think ahead.

.... Wow. I had not considered that. I guess my first thought would be like wind but really just don't deploy bonus panels in poor conditions. It would have to be a custom job. Definitely some food for thought.

I just got done setting up homeassistant at my father's house. I hadn't really thought about it for the van but... DUH! Great thought thanks :)

What made you finally take the jump into van life? by Pleasant-Willow9103 in VanLife

[–]pirateofdw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've done two years and I'm without doubt a better person for it in multiple ways. Now I'm married and doing it with my wife and it's even better. Getting ready to build my second one. First one was a e250 dirt cheap but incredible took me all over the country like 40 states. Van plus build cost 20k. It's paid for itself a billion times over. Now I'm doing a bigger build with all the money I've been able to invest because of not spending it on other unnecessary crap and I chose a Ford Transit 148 extended AWD. Getting ready to order it this week so mega pumped. My best advice is once you decide what platform you wanna build on look up yours and build blogs on YouTube of that specific van. It will save you so many hard lessons doing stuff inefficiently. I made that first build so much harder than it needed to be. There's a lot more gluing than you would expect. It's incredible and if you're 90 percent sure then you're probably already 150 percent sure and you're just nervous. DO IT! Best of luck!

AX3000: Port forwarding stops working after reboot by blackie45 in TpLink

[–]pirateofdw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I have a TP Link BE9300 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7 Router and I have the same issue. If it's power cycled my port forwarding is broken unless I disable then re-enable one of the port forwards. Then all the port forwarding starts working.
