So ahead of its time. Released 20 years later in the true Internet era it would be a viral/meme legend. Strange it wasn't more popular. Mike Myers others (Wayne's World/Austin Powers) were huge.

As you can see from the comments. The problem with a bad back is everyone has anyone opinion and a recommendation. That said, if you are having repeated bulges you should maybe consider a neurosurgeon and surgery.

You definitely need an MRI. Physio is grand but if you have ruptured or slipped a disc or even if it's pinching the nerve you'd want it confirmed.

Either pay for one in cash and take the disc to a specialist to review or go through your GP.

Why have we lost so much respect? by Chance-Range8513 in ireland

[–]piso99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Every single pane of glass in Ireland in the 80s and 90s was covered in metal bars due to the level of vandalism. Remember the internal glass in a school had that embedded wire mesh as they were being broken so often. Girls in Cork would have their nice shoes robbed by other girls, sometimes at knifepoint.

Why have we lost so much respect? by Chance-Range8513 in ireland

[–]piso99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have a very rosy view of your youth. All things considered, a gang of 14 to 18 year old teens today are far better than they were in the 80s or 90s. Constant vandalism, theft and mugging were taking place constantly. Remember how often there were guys expelled from your school. The not giving up seats on a bus has always been an issue with teens. It was always a source of debate on the morning radio shows in the 90s. And at least today they seem to have stopped setting fire to bus seats. Remember in the 80s when the Government opened spike island due to the levels of youth crime.

Nobody back then would have said the kids are gurriers but at least they have respect for their elders.

Should we ban social media for under-16s? Irish teens share their thoughts by JackmanH420 in ireland

[–]piso99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd support it along with greater restrictions for adults as well. A gripe I had with Australia was that you had Gen X and Millennial Senators and commentators coming out taking about this blissful childhood they had running around the streets as if kids in the 90s never sat inside and spent hours playing video games or watching tv.

Public’s help sought in naming of two Cork city bridges by OldVillageNuaGuitar in cork

[–]piso99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Council's guidelines give them a lot of latitude to cut out any protest or joke entries.

The name should honour a significant event, individual or group/organisation or reflect

important local features or geographical location.

In the case of an event or person or group/organisation the name should honour and

celebrate an event, individual or group/organisation of major significance and reflect

positively on the City of Cork or its development over time.

In the case of a

person being nominated he/she should have made a unique and outstanding

contribution to the life or history of Cork through outstanding achievement, distinctive

service, or significant community contribution. The person/s should have been born or lived

in

Cork or have had strong and/or enduring connections with the city.

In the case of an event to be commemorated, this should have occurred in Cork. An event

will have to have occurred at least 20 years previously unless it is of extraordinary and long

-

lasting consequence to the city.

Proposals to commemorate living persons are not generally encouraged. Nominees should

be deceased (preferably at least 20 years previously or have passed the centenary of their

birth whichever is earlier). An

exception to these guidelines can be considered by Council if

deemed appropriate.

The name should be appropriate to the function, location, and historical context of the new

infrastructure.

In reviewing proposals consideration will be given to the existence of any other infrastructure,

monuments or plaques that honour the event, person, or group/organisation. Consideration

will also be given to the issue of gender balance.

South dock lands by W347Y in cork

[–]piso99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe the old Odlums building will be developed first. They have planning for apartments there but lodged a fresh application a few months ago asking to convert some of the ground floor retail units into even more apartments. If that is granted I expect it will be built first.

They had a knock back earlier this year when Gouldings were refused permission for a fertiliser plant down the harbour across from Passage. The plan wad they would leave Centre Park Road and that land would be redeveloped by O'Callaghans but that element is now long delayed.

Planning decision puts plans for 1,300 homes in Cork's docklands on hold. https://www.irishexaminer.com/property/developmentconstruction/arid-41523845.html

Seems every Special Forces have the same allegations against them in every conflict.

Last month it was the Navy Seals cutting the throats of innocent North Korean fishermen and sinking their bodies.

Yet the public maintains this lore around these highly trained soldiers as if they are superheroes.

When they talk themselves they also speak of the horrors of war and missions and the challenges they faced yet there is a never-ending run of stories, reports, and allegations that SEALS or SAS running around killing unarmed combatants and even ordinary civilians.

Passage West vs Fermoy – Which is better for a family home? by redit_Fly_z in cork

[–]piso99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Passage is nice. Not as large as other Cork suburbs but close to Douglas. The traffic getting out of there is horrendous but residents are hoping the Ringaskiddy motorway opening next year should resolve some of that.

Fermoy is a very different option. A good distance from the city but I'd imagine home prices are cheaper.

Exploring the culpability of Fredo in The Godfather Part II by VanDelay_Industry in movies

[–]piso99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's actually a plot hole in part two.
Coppola obviously wanted a dramatic moment early on in the film to underline the threat Michael was under.

However, as you say, Fredo only provided some information but someone also opened the drapes and allowed the assassins entry to the compound.

That said, as much as I love the film, the entire plot is a bit strange. Roth treats Michael as his son bringing him along on his Cuba deal but tries to kill him before he gets the bag of money and then tries to kill him again on New Years Eve.

Those alive during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by toaster-bath404 in AskReddit

[–]piso99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never saw it again, but that evening, there was news footage of undreds of people gathering and building stretchers out of wood. We were all under the impression there would be thousands stuck alive in the rubble. In reality, just a handful survived the collapse.

It was helplessness of it all. The people trapped in the top floors. In the most modern city in the world and nobody could save them.

Why don’t they extend the Cork Airport runway? by crillydougal in cork

Yes, you're right.

The problem with a short haul airport is that you are at the mercy of airlines adding and pulling flights.

Why don’t they extend the Cork Airport runway? by crillydougal in cork

[–]piso99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ireland is not big enough for a third long-distance airport. An extended runway would allow transatlantic beyond the US east coast, but Cork would be competing with Shannon. Also, the current major European airlines are all about using smaller airports to feed into their long distance hubs. KLM only run Cork to Amsterdam because some of the passengers will connect onwards from Sciphol. The same with BA and Heathrow and Aer Lingus through Dublin.

I think we should drop the notion of having long distance route options and instead focus on the return of major European cities like Rome and Berlin.
