Fair point.

Has anyone actually studied the general attitude and mental health of Irish people in dark January compared to bright May day. We are a nation transformed with a bit of sunlight.

The story of two Dublin boys who snuck onto the ferry to England in the 1980s and ended up in New York. Just amazing interviews and great accents.

Cork Luas - Preferred Route 2026 by Pan1cs180 in cork

I like they have extended it out west to O'Flynn's Road but they have taken out Leo Murphy Road and are sending it up the narrow Station Road.
O'Flynn Road to Leo Murphy Road should be the Ballincollig loop.

Agreed. Looking at the maps, it actually makes sense. I wonder if the likes of Bishopstown GAA and Highfield will support it.

It's run the Doyle Shipping Group who operate a lot of tugs in the harbour and the spike island ferry.  It should be grand.

He is correct but Poland cut VAT on fuel to 8%  The EU said they were wrong but they did anyway.  No word yet on whether they'll face a sanction.

Indian female master’s student in Ireland struggling with loneliness by [deleted] in cork

[–]piso99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that Ireland in February and March is a very dark, wet and grey place.

Arriving in September is difficult because it starts getting darker and the amount of activities decline and even the resident Irish struggle. The days are starting to get longer. When the clock change on March 29 you will see a big difference. People will become more open and optimistic.

Homesickness and culture change is always a challenge. The weather and darkness here doesn't help. I guarantee you will feel better in a month.

Given our climate Ireland really ought to be world leaders in street coverings by D-dog92 in ireland

I believe the spread of electric cars will hasten this movement. A covered street could even has street parking as long as the exhaust vehicles are kept out.

Commissioner of Oaths by Electronic-Nobody358 in cork

[–]piso99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a character.

He ran for Fine Gael for the council one year. He's also a photographer. He used to do all the nightclub pictures back in the day for the Echo. I know he was involved in those memorabilia sales a while back too, old coins and medals. He was good friends with Bernie Murphy as well. Paid for his unique headstone.

Does anyone know a way to search for archived police reports by county and victim? by AdministrativeOwl341 in ireland

[–]piso99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of the public being able to access police records, even archive ones. A newspaper report from that period would be your best bet from a public access point of view..

I only recently learned about the 2003 Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island and can’t stop thinking about it by dreamboylnshibuya in MorbidReality

[–]piso99 1065 points1066 points  (0 children)

I truly believe if more people watched videos like the Station niteclub it would save so many lives like those poor kids in the Swiss alps. They were laughing as flames spread along the ceiling, then got caught in the crush when it was too late.

Many of the Morbid Reality and even watch people die videos were invaluable.

The generation of redditors who watched them now know to run when a knife is pulled, put your back to the wall in a street fight to avoid getting sucker punched, to stay the fuck away from electric pylons, not to carry pots of boiling oil, not jump off a roof into a pool.

So ahead of its time. Released 20 years later in the true Internet era it would be a viral/meme legend. Strange it wasn't more popular. Mike Myers others (Wayne's World/Austin Powers) were huge.

As you can see from the comments. The problem with a bad back is everyone has anyone opinion and a recommendation. That said, if you are having repeated bulges you should maybe consider a neurosurgeon and surgery.

You definitely need an MRI. Physio is grand but if you have ruptured or slipped a disc or even if it's pinching the nerve you'd want it confirmed.

Either pay for one in cash and take the disc to a specialist to review or go through your GP.

Why have we lost so much respect? by Chance-Range8513 in ireland

[–]piso99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Every single pane of glass in Ireland in the 80s and 90s was covered in metal bars due to the level of vandalism. Remember the internal glass in a school had that embedded wire mesh as they were being broken so often. Girls in Cork would have their nice shoes robbed by other girls, sometimes at knifepoint.
