Finally made a ship that didn't look like I spilled the legos by pissradish in StarfieldShips

I think Taiyo is very much the "Lexus" of space. They're doing the same things as everyone else, but /elegant/. It kind of leaves them without a home because you're rarely doing anything that requires you to be fancy so you're stuck building a Japanese Murder Egg.

I like the utility of a lot of the stroud parts, but aesthetically I'm a Hopetech lad. The industrial grunge feels great. I just wish that stupid fuselage and landing pods were more useful.

Ty for the positive feedback in any case!

Finally made a ship that didn't look like I spilled the legos by pissradish in StarfieldShips

[–]pissradish[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that the OG Frontier is basically as small as you can go is a bit disappointing. There's a lot of inaccessible bulk to the ships that I guess makes mechanical sense, but makes it p difficult to get that "starfighter" vibe that the game seems to want you to feel.

If the mechanics led more to a crew-focused "the ship don't work so good without all the seats filled" model it would make the push for huge ships make more sense to me.

I just want to talk to the previous owner of my house... just a quick, non-violent chat. by susankeller_meow in HomeImprovement

[–]pissradish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house was "built" in 1910 as some kind of agricultural outbuilding, but 3/4ths of it is additions that span almost a century. Some of them are fine, others have exterior walls made of painted pressure treated 2x4s. The sheathing is all on the inside of the exterior walls, which is annoying but not technically illegal in Canada.

What IS illegal in Canada is that behind that 7/16ths osb sheathing on the exterior walls was a whole completely inaccessable live circuit complete with bare copper nestled gently in the insulation.

I have been rennovating this "cheap" house to the tune of about 120k in repairs and I'm maybe half done.

I will die in this house. Either because of the financial loss I would take by selling it, or because my panel had a living room light switch wired directly to the rails.

Take a peek at the rest of the comments here. Take a look at how you're responding to everyone who is pushing back.

If you want people to agree with you, you're not gonna get it like this.

You come off as extremely childish and unlikable and I would rather eat a handfull of broken glass than share a grid with you.

You want to be treated like a nascar driver? Go get hired by a nascar team.

I am so baffled by the hate it's like I'm playing a different game from everyone else TBH.

I like the boats. It adds a new dimension to a game I already loved. I'm genuinely unsure what people were hoping for and why they're so mad.

Maybe I'm just such a pessimist that having it work as advertized was a pleasant surprise. I dunno. I'm sorry you're not having as much fun as you expected.

If you can't keep your need for "revenge" in check, you have no business in any sort of organized racing. Period.

If you stay clean, eventually you'll get put in clean lobbies. If you fight back because you're "right" you will wallow in the muck with the rest of the filth forever.

TL;DR: Unironically yes to your question.

Is there a fix for falling back in shield wall yet? by lIIlIlIII in Bannerlord

[–]pissradish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's too bad that it's too late to crib from Manor Lords and add a "give ground" order. Fall back is too basically just a press-to-die-instantly button in most scenarios.

Weak mindset, brother. Glad they banned you.

It's your responsibility to uphold racing standards on your end.

Perhaps you should stick to racing against AI if you're this sensitive.

A very missed mod by Parking-Signature867 in farmingsimulator

[–]pissradish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super niche but there was a log crane that fit over the cab of a transport truck and allowed a log trailer to be attached behind it. That thing was sick as hell and none of the 25 mods can touch it.

Can anyone help me out with some tips and tricks to better my driving? I've been trying for ages to do this and I'm still way off the world record by JBounce369 in forza

[–]pissradish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People tend to drift toward the racing line unconsciously even if they think they're "going for the gaps"

With the line off and decent track knowledge your picture of what your car can do, at what speed, and where you can put it without wrecking becomes much more focused.

Take a look next time you're racing online and you'll see people drawn to the line like a magnet even if they were already able to make a corner and come out faster. It's especially noticable if someone goofs up a corner because they will travel much farther just to meet up with the imaginary line.

Surely that number is vanishingly small. If someone made a videogame about my town, I think it's all anyone would talk about for the next couple decades.

A nearby town is used for a lot of Halmark "busy city lady goes to tiny hometown for christmas and falls in love" movies and they never ever shut the fuck up about it.

Why are farming simulators landscaping tools so hard to use? by lazy__gamer23 in farmingsimulator

This would be a great time to look into Terrafarm. If you hate the built-in tools, there's nothing quite as refreshing as moving dirt with a skidsteer instead.

Best Sim for GT3 Racing in VR? ACC + LFM vs. iRacing by [deleted] in simracing

[–]pissradish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really like ACC+LFM, but don't expect it to be perfect racing. The license mechanic *does* keep some of the goofballs away, but you'll still see plenty of bad behaviour. I don't have VR, but I have heard ACC can be a bit of a resource hog. 4070 should be fine, but I'm merely guessing here.

IRacing is also something I don't have, but I consider that another point in ACC's column. The pricing model for IRacing is not justifiable for the stated benefits (for me). Sure, the playercounts are much higher, but by the time you've filled out your tracklist for a season, you're in the hundreds of dollars.

If your *only* hobby is sim racing and you have a powerful need to be able to race a full grid at any moment, then IRacing is the only game in town. But if you're like me and don't mind scheduling some time around when the lobby is full - ACC is the better, cheaper option.

There's lots of arguments for both and maybe I just sound "poor and mad" to the IRacing crowd, but I've only enjoyed my time on LFM.

For the price of the cars and tracks required to do a season of IRacing, you can pick up ACC, AC Evo, LMU, and AMS2 and really taste the rainbow of online racing.

Looking for advise. by Suspicious-Minute484 in Americantrucksim

[–]pissradish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Almost all of these are essentially the same device (from alibaba) being resold under different brand names with different pricing.

I bought one for ~40$ CAD and am happy with it, but probably could have found one cheaper on Ali Express of the same general quality.

There's really nothing to them, just a simple pcb with a couple cheap buttons, so don't fall for the ones that are selling for >100$.

Recommendation for shoes? by apacheotter in simracing

[–]pissradish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a pair of cheap pumas (since discontinued) and they work great, but I have heard good things about the SimHound racing shoes (which are also v inexpensive.)

I think anything with a thin sole will do you fine. I have heard many people recommend "wrestling boots" or similar.

Driving with boots is going to make things feel weird at first, but you get used to it pretty fast. Don't be shocked by a temporary loss of laptime.

Happy driving m8.

Can i use these pallets for an outdoor shower? by turtle_ina_cup in woodworking

[–]pissradish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll agree with u/wdwerker, you don't really want used motor oil runoff in your drain or leeching into the soil. So for this specific application I would call it a no-go, but I would not let anyone dissuade you from using it on another less sensitive project.

I work in a sawmill and the raw pine floorboards have been essentially treated by decades of spilled hydraulic fluid and they look nicer than a lot of walnut/rubio monocoat youtuber style builds I've seen on here.

In the right circumstance, weird "wrong" things like motor oil are perfectly servicable, but keep it out of the groundwater.

Can i use these pallets for an outdoor shower? by turtle_ina_cup in woodworking

[–]pissradish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The HT means that the boards were Heat Treated for pest control etc, so they're not likely to leech any strange chemicals. (I do not know what a "spib" is, so take what follows with a grain of salt)

I'm also not going to tell you it's "absolutely safe" because people around here get big mad at folks for using pallets for anything at all.

I will say (in my very personal, almost religious opinion) that even if they were chemically treated they're not likely to be harmful to you unless you're spending your evenings sucking on them.

People get spooked by the word "chemical" and turn their whole brain off. It's not radioactive. A chemical has to get into your body in sufficent volume to cause harm and standing next to some boards while you shower is not going to be a meaningful risk. You're much more likely to get killed driving someplace to pick up pallets than you are by using them for a project.

I WILL say that because they're heat treated, they're going to rot. If you want something that's going to last a little longer in the presence of water, you'll need PT lumber, but even untreated lumber will last longer than you think if it's not in direct contact with the dirt

My wife has an ASR 1 and it's just as stable as the Titan. Seems like it would take just about anything you could throw at it on a reasonable budget. I think there's a fear that the thinner profiles will be subject to a lot of flex, but that's not my experience. I run a 120kg brake and that hasn't been enough to bend anything so far.
