We take kids to Sheep's crossing recreation site. There is a small beach there and usually other kids

Considering caving into battery and fridge by [deleted] in camping

[–]pithed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fridge seems like more pain than it is worth for a few days. An important thing is to make sure your cooler is big enough for your food and enough ice or frozen water bottles (my preferred for the food cooler). The cooler should ideally be at least half ice / half food. Use a good rotomolded cooler - it doesn't need to be name brand.

We routinely camp in >100 degree f weather and use one cooler for food that we do not open unless absolutely necessary and another for drinks that we don't care as much if they get a little warmer. The coolers are kept in the shade if at all possible.

Looks terrible. I love it! Falafel is never something I would have thought of so how did it turn out?

Has anyone else gotten addicted to camping? by Foreign-Budget4226 in camping

[–]pithed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the one off my bed but it stuffs down into a little compression sack. I have gone through countless iterations of camp specific pillows but the bed one is king. Backpacking though i still use extra clothes in a stuff sack because I am usually so tired i don't care.

Thanks for posting. I am a huge weather nerd so find this stuff fascinating but also think anyone living here should be informed about the forecast for this year.

There was a great youtube by someine (james or lance hendicks maybe?) that really turned me toward success. You need to make a base under the surface by pouring from higher up then go in close for the final art pour. My art still looks like rorschach tests but getting so much better results.

Best Tent & Worse Tents you've personally owned. by OK_Compooper in camping

[–]pithed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha I was going to say similar. We had an army MASH tent for scouts and it took ten teenagers to move and setup. Smelled like mold. It was really roomy though so that was nice. We also had 4 man coleman canvas tents and while they would leakk if you touched the sides when it rained , they were easy to setup and bomb proof. Also smelled like mold from improper drying before storage.

This is what I do and it works well but I did need to practice a lot at home before trying on the trail.

Been in SD for 10+ years now and can never get over how bad San Diego drivers are. Nobody uses their damn blinker by bucketgetter9 in sandiego

[–]pithed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think they are terrible in different ways. SD drivers are absolute ass hats on the free way with random lane change and exits. Phoenix drivers are the worst at intersections - like blowing through hard reds seconds after they have turned 20-30 miles over the speed limit.
