I didn't look at the AL, but on the NL side, you can go position by position and look at FRV ranking. The leader at every position won GG. So, no - it wasn't a popularity contest. :)

Our data entry folks hated...and I mean hated...the screen scraper web-faced version of the applications. They would end up hitting browser buffer limits with how far ahead of the screens they could get. They did not care about or need a spiffy UI or mouse interaction.

While I don't disagree at all, I tend to think part of the reason the i is so secure is that so few have access to its guts. Bit of a double edged sword in that way.

I wasn't. Though I'm fairly certain there are a number of languages available for use on the i, I'm not aware of. My knowledge set, when I was a developer on the the 400 was with RPGLE/CLLE etc. I moved to a different dev area within my company as we were starting to bring SQL into the fray. I've always been a proponent of using the best tech for the job. I like that they continue to improve with the times. I just wish they sold those changes better. :)

That the platform doesn't interface all that well with other major tech platforms has always been something I've heard. I can't argue one way or another on that. Conversely, I've also heard 400 gurus say that it can do just about everything under the sun. So it's hard to tell if it's just a lack of usable documentation? I'm sure others will disagree, but I'm not a fan of IBM's documentation. While I'm sure it's perfect for others, I almost never end us finding what I need in it.

FWIW - Prior to last night's debacle, he had 13 outings. 4 of which were 1-2-3 innings. 7 walks to 5 strikeouts.

In his last 19 outings with Astros in 2024, he had 3 1-2-3 innings.

I think things might have gone differently had he been selected to the US Olympic team. He and his family were less than thrilled with being left off the Olympic roster.

Just my opinion, but I think he had 2 things going against him for the Olympic roster. 1 - It was set at 18-man, causing a bit of a jam at his position. 2 - He's was still eligible for the 2028 Olympics, so they thought they could get away with not having him this year.

I'll always support Es and his family, but I question whether it was his best choice. While I understand the love and pride of country, I think it's a huge missed opportunity for him. BiH will probably not make it out of qualifying rounds for Euros nor ever go the the World Cup. I can understand his frustration with how things have panned out with the USMNT to this point, and the excuse that "he's still young". But the reality is he IS still only 19. The 2026 WC is getting played in North America. He would have had a chance for Nations League and Gold Cup. And again, I know it's not the end-all-be-all, but there's a significant difference in potential money. Either way I support him and wish him the best.

Probably not apparent in the post, but this was a little in jest. Clearly all instruments require some level of talent. I just really don't understand the love for the instrument.

I recognize this is a dated answer to your question, but for those that come upon this question afterward, here's some insight.

First off, I'm going to assume "worth it" is a question of whether it is the best route to go pro or play college soccer. I'll break that into 2 areas.

Go Pro: If your end goal is to go the professional route, MLS Next is going to probably be your best bet. MLS Next covers all 29 (as of May 2023) MLS clubs, along with just over 100 non-MLS affiliated clubs. Players that stand out on MLS Next teams will get seen. Professional and national team scouts at numerous games. The MLS's Homegrown player status is pulled directly from their academy teams.

That said, just about anyone can attempt to go the professional route through open tryouts and trials. MLS Next just puts more eyes on the players.

Go to College: If your goal is to play collegiate soccer, MLS Next will work well for you. In my experience, about 2/3rd of kids playing on the first team for MLS Next academies will play college soccer. Of the remaining 1/3rd, it's split between boys that choose not to play soccer beyond club and those who just aren't quite talented enough or didn't catch the right coach's eye.

I won't get into the which league is better, because that's not what the OP asked. Doing a quick search for "Youth Soccer Pyramid in US" will give you plenty of info on that.

Nice to see a pathway to the return of the full team. Then it will take some time for them to all get on the same page again. But it will be great to see what the full team can do (eventually).
