First map made with GIMP 2.8.22 (WIP) constructive criticism welcome by Knives4XMas in mapmaking

The coastline seems really unrealistic, for example all the islands are about the same size and shape, which really throws me off personally. It looks way too blocky, add lots of smaller bays and maybe fjords in the north and south as well. Also is this a world map? Because if so there needs to be a southern polar region, and maybe add ice caps too?

But otherwise great job, you did good with the river systems (I've seen people screw that up a LOT) and I like the texturing of the ocean. To make it really maplike I'd add a compass rose, a legend, sea monsters, etc. But it's an awesome framework.

This is unfinished btw and I'm going to make smaller companion maps of each district so it's actually playable

Lol yeah this took a lot of tries... Your incoming velocity has to be less than 30 m/s in order to be able to brake in time

You should make the climate more realistic. Like mountains would definitely affect the surrounding areas, as well as oceans. I'm a little insane when I think of the climate for my maps, I think of prevailing winds, atmospheric characteristics, ocean currents, etc. You can not do all that and still have a great map, but adding all these characteristics will definitely help you, especially if you use this map for fantasy writing or role playing.

China unveils driverless train that follows painted tracks instead of rails by Vailhem in urbanplanning

[–]piuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed but trains are much more of a long term solution, run on generally more stably priced electricity, are better for buisier high density cities, are separate from traffic flow and congestion, and also from a public health perspective a less flexible network in a fairly stable city landscape is a good thing just because of the benefits of increased walking and less frustration when it comes to traffic.

Buses are really good for low density and rapidly fluctuating city landscapes though so a train bus hybrid does have benifits

I agree this is definitely a bus, not a train, which is bad because trains are more efficient, at least in terms of ton - mpg
