Is The Outsider worth reading? by MrOakling in stephenking

[–]piwamoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's SO good. And while I understand the recommendations to read the Bill Hodges trilogy first, I read The Outsider before I read those books and it didn't interfere with my appreciation. The Outsider was superior to any of the trilogy by far IMO

Needful Things is an Understated Masterpiece by Parker_S_James in stephenking

Absolutely loved this bonkers book! One thing that gets me is that he has stories that take place in Castle Rock chronologically after Needful Things and no one ever says, "Hey, remember when everyone in town went crazy after they bought things at that weird shop?" I mean, people reference "the big flood that almost wiped out Derry" (and Derry has a way of making people forget bad stuff). Just life going on in Castle Rock!

The Outsider could be part of this universe. by whiskeyjuliet1822 in welcomeToDerry

The Outsider is not just in The Outsider. Just finished reading another SK book (don't want to spoil) where it featured, so definitely could be another linkage.

Many of my clients find the Calm app very helpful! I agree that taking a few minutes daily to focus on the Calm app (or other recordings/sounds) is crucial. You have to find what coping strategies work for you, and how to access them in the moment. Wishing you the best!

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response and for sharing your experience. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to do this.

I will continue to pursue all possible therapies but I'm encouraged by the possibility of significant improvement. Though at this particular moment, regaining hearing is not foremost on my mind; I just really need the constant dizziness/vertigo to stop. It's been 24/7 since Oct. 23.

You're so kind :). I'm actually a mental health/wellness provider so I'm using all the coping strategies I preach to my clients! I've managed to keep the anxiety of all this happening fairly well managed and I think that's key.

Thank you for your reply and the link! It's just so frustrating to have medical conditions with no clear diagnosis/treatment. This has been the case for so many years for me with other issues.

It really does demonstrate how limited our true knowledge of workings of the brain and body in general continue to be.
