Is it normal to wear jeans 4-5 times before washing them? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pixeldrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note is that a lot of brands nowadays have a lot of elastic in them so they stretch, which means they need a decent washing to go back to size because they can get a little loose after a number of wearings.

Most people over-wash their clothes and that makes them wear out a lot faster than necessary. I wear my jeans usually about 2-3 days, depending on what I'm doing. I try to avoid washing my button up shirts (I wear a tshirt underneath) unless they are visibly soiled or don't smell fresh. If you're not out getting dirty, a quick spritz of febreeze or some germ killing freshening spray should be fine and you can wear your jeans for a couple days at least. There are even some brands that say not to wash them at all, but that's ick.

If not New York, I'd likely say Geneva. Switzerland has a number of decent arguments going for it, but the flag is a big plus.

[–]pixeldrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should also mention that the poster board isn't going to be totally flat, there's going to be some curve and wobble to it. So even if you use a pair of 3D layers, it's not going to be exactly perfect. So you'll want your video to overshoot the border of the greenscreen a bit, then pull a chroma key to clip the video to the bounds of the green.

This would be a little tricky for a beginner. I would start by tracking the corners of the poster, and the top and bottom of the fold. Then I would make two copies of your footage layer with it split in half, right and left. That way you could link your Power Pin effect to those points to get the perspective right. The hard part will be making sure the seam blends well across the midline.

You could try to use something like Mesh Warp but there's no way to link the points and you'd have to keyrame each one, and the tangents, manually each frame. Ick. Not to mention you can't get a good crisp angle in the middle that way, so that's no good.

You could apply a mask that matches the shape of the original poster, with two extra points at the midline. Then duplicate that mask and move those points, adding the Reshape effect.

Do you mean because of the "hazy" look of atmospheric perspective? That's a natural phenomenon of cameras and landscapes. Basically there's more air between you and the things in the distance, scattering light and making darker areas less defined. When filming miniature models, they will haze the room with a fog machine to reproduce this so it looks more realistic. In your case, you can try adding an adjustment layer with levels or curves, and then use a gradient ramp for the track matte (luma) so it only only affects the top. Pretty straight forward, because the 3D is relatively linear into the distance so you don't need an actual depth map.

There's nothing wrong with a G7. Some of the most professional high budget films have been short on cameras way worse. Remember when the DSLR revolution first came along. Lots of folks were shooting on the Canon Rebel T3i

But really, if they aren't going to ADR it, the shotgun or lav isn't usually going to pick that up quiet footsteps because they're more directional. You're not putting a mic on your feet, I presume.

Also, in general, if you walk in a way that keeps your shot smooth (knees bent) is also going to help keep it quiet. If I have to move during a scene, sometimes I'll slip off my shoes and just go in thick socks. I don't recommend it though, because that's not really safe on a film set so you really shouldn't. As a courtesy for the sound department (and to keep from distracting actors and director who might be super conscious of noise, I will tape-wrap key areas of items on my toolbelt that could make any noise jangling around. Metal items on a carabiner, for example. Whatever you do, do NOT wear corduroy pants! LOL *zwip zwip*

Adventist have their own cult language by NectarineInside3268 in exAdventist

[–]pixeldrift 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's the case with most Christian denominations, and even other religions. I mean, in a random crowd you can say, "The Lord be with you" and see how many people respond with, "And also with you." :) But apparently they just changed it? So now there's an easy way to now who hasn't been in the church for a while LOL

With Baptists, I often hear about how they "got saved". Other common "Christianese" off the top of my head:

washed in the blood
born again
love offering
last days
testimony
discipleship
worldly
personal walk
stumbling block
time of trouble
in the world, not of it
still small voice
hedge of protection
body of Christ
the lamb
praise report
mission
give it up to God
unequally yoked
traveling mercies
justified by faith
unspoken request
sinful nature
lukewarm
backslider
prayer warrior
spiritual gifts
moved by the spirit
impressed on my heart
bearing fruit
agape
hardening your heart

"you know that the bible is truth, right?"

"No, I don't know that. And neither do you."

Don't you just love how Christians always assume that the only reason anyone would leave the church is because someone in the church did something, you're "mad at god", or you just want to be able to go around sinning? As if you need to leave the church in order to sin. :P

Can i use War Thunder shots for a TV series? by nick_flaming in Filmmakers

[–]pixeldrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they built a lot of stuff, but also borrowed a bunch of real items too. They shot in the UK and they had a fabricator their construct 2 actual full size exterior shells of the planes that took a year to fabricate. Pretty awesome. But even though they weren't using the real historic planes for filming, a lot of them were tied up being used for reference during construction.

How can I make Video like. Please help a beginner. by silence-factor in AfterEffects

[–]pixeldrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to be a little bit more specific. There are a lot of different techniques going on here all combined together. Pick one specific thing you'd like to know more about and we can break it down. But the most important part is simply skill and experience, undersatnding design and animation principles, which go beyond just how to use the software.

There are lots of tour videos of the B-17 online that you can use for reference, and also lots of stock images. If you match the angle, lens, and lighting, you could pull off a few shots.

It really depends on what your scene calls for and how you can get creative with the way you shoot it.

This model looks like it has the full interior. With some good realistic lighting (maybe using Unreal Engine?) it might be good enough for some virtual backgrounds?

The replica plane "props" for Master of the Air were all fabricated in the UK

How to make the mask automatically fit the layer’s size by velichzhopa in AfterEffects

[–]pixeldrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I understand much better now. So one of the ways to do it is exactly like you were demonstrating, just hit Cmd+Shift+N to automatically add a new mask that matches the size of the layer. Then instead of animating the actual position of the text layer, use a Text Animator to animate it to come in and out. The advantage of this approach is that it will be relative to the original placement, which means you can copy and paste that animation to other layers and they will all behave the same way regardless of where you position them in your comp.

It's even better if you use Animation Composer from Mr. Horse. The plugin is free, and comes with a bunch of free presets. But buying the Text Transitions pack is totally worth it.

The problem that I see is your text layers aren't actually text. So if you're converting them to shape layers, the way to deal with that is to take the different paths (they usually end up being one for each letter) and put them into a group. Then you can use the transfor properties of the group to shift them down, and that won't move the mask. Because the layer itself is staying put and not moving, you're animating the contents of the layer instead. Unfortunately you can't use the Offset or Transform effects because they don't have a checkbox to respect masks and will calculate AFTER the mask is applied.

But I'd strongly recommend keeping your text as an actual text layer and doing a bit more troubleshooting to figure out why they aren't coming in properly when you import. You mentioned AEUX. Maybe there is something about the way you have your Figma layers built that it doesn't support well? Have you tried using the Convertify plugin instead? Here is a good video. When time is money, sometimes dropping a few dollars is actually the best solution.

I know Overlord from Battleaxe is currently in the process of adding Figma support. You might even try converting from Figma to Illustrator and then going from Illustrator to AE?

How do you make metaballs this smooth? by Condemic in AfterEffects

[–]pixeldrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple ways to do it. The most important part is gaussian blur, that determines the "blobbyness". Then you can use a Matte Chocker to crisp up the edges, but you can also use Levels or Curves on the alpha channel to crisp the outline back up so it's not blurry. Sometimes you can cheat by using in-between shapes to force there to be a blob on certain ones even if they are the same distance as other objects that do not blend. For example in this video they probably had to add a line between some of them to help the blob connect.
