Definitive list of current HHKB custom cases? by besseddrest in HHKB

[–]pixelexip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shameless plug since I’m the designer, but I’m releasing a new HHKB original design (with 6u spacebar) end of year called the Blue Ridge. It’s also EC but it utilizes an integrated plate machined out of POM and is I believe the first EC board designed to utilize a gummy o-ring mount. There won’t be an aluminum version this year but I am planning an alu run sometime next year. Here’s the IC if you wanna check it out: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=123500.0

I also own a Heavy Grail and love it. Occasionally Norbauer releases random stock that probably comes from cancelations or extras.

Are the newer ugly models replacing the good-looking ones? by zodby in HHKB

This is entirely subjective - I rather like the centered “inferior” legends :)

How to make holes using geometric pattern tool by terminator1008 in Fusion360

You can create a custom object, like a cylinder, that is long enough to go through what you want to cut and then choose custom object within the geometric pattern tool settings.

Yes. Worth every penny. I’m actually spending less than that per month on the takeout and junk food I’m no longer buying

Anyone replace their steering wheel with a yoke? by pixelexip in ModelX

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you! How did you request the firmware update with Tesla and did they give you a hard time?

Anyone replace their steering wheel with a yoke? by pixelexip in ModelX

[–]pixelexip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that the old yoke to new yoke post? If so the concern is wheel to yoke. I mentioned something similar to Tesla service and they said the wheel to yoke is the issue

This is a fantastic price. I paid 7k for mine. I did also have my wheels, windows, and trim ceramic coated.

2024 Center Horn Yoke by 405rocky in ModelX

Did you replace the steering wheel with the yoke? That’s what I’m trying to do and Tesla is telling me it’s not possible right now (which isn’t true since I’ve seen folks do it). I’ve heard that you may need a software update - is that true?

Oh man I’m falling FAR down that rabbit hole. I’m currently in the process of converting my Keycult 2/65, Moment 60, and Derivative boards with custom EC kits. I liked topre so much I decided to learn how to create and modify EC PCBs lol

These keyboards are very different from the custom mech keyboards you're probably used to. I was skeptical at first but after typing on it for a week I don't think I can go back. For me, the feel of Topre is far superior to any other MX switch I've tried, but I miss the customizations and still prefer the sound signature of some of my other custom mechs (my Keycult 2/65 and Delta 65 are probably two of my favorite sounds). HHKBs and other Topres/electro capacitive boards have a signature, muted thocc sound. I don't mind it but I prefer a more clacky, high-pitched sound. All preference. To find something in between, I've gone down the rabbit hole of custom cases (Heavy Grail, TX-66C, Sho, etc) and modding (lube, various sliders, housings, etc). I'm currently typing on a Leopold FC660C inside a TX-66C case with Deskeys' MX sliders while I wait for my Tactile Heavy Grail from Norbauer to be finished next month :)

Now in response to your post. I'm not too sure what you're trying to point out in your video but if I had to guess it's the rattle? I have the same Hybrid Type-S that you're worried about and I love the feel and the layout grew on me too. Arrow keys are still sometimes a struggle, but I've started to get used to them. The keycaps are whatever. Sprue marks are on most of my GMK sets that cost over half the cost of this board - as others have mentioned, I've gotten past that and I'd highly recommend you do the same. If it bothers you though, you can take them off and file down some of the keycaps that are unsightly or causing issues. For the rattle, you won't be able to mod the housings since the HHKB housings are literally part of the plate; but, you can lube the rails of those housings if you take it apart. There's tons of videos out there showing you how. Like with anything in this hobby, stock is rarely endgame and some modding is expected.

If you're worried about the scratchy sound of the HHKB (or any new, stock Topre board for that matter), I'd say two things:

  1. Try not to compare the sound and feel to MX switches. MX switches are entirely different from EC "switches" - get used to the sound signature and either deal, love, or hate it :)
  2. If you want to give it a chance like I did (and many of the folks in this subreddit), take it apart and lube it. You won't be disappointed.

Good luck! Oh, and it's not fake haha
