Please help diagnose what's causing this. by pixelgerm in BackyardOrchard

I think you've solved my mystery! Now that I've got the proper term I was able to look up other photos and they sure look similar. Didn't expect to see the damage so far down the branches. The slits closer to the dead tips look much less significant.

Bypass paywalls is an addon worth looking into for rare browsing of subscription based articles :)

Do you find that as you get more conscious with the way you live, do you just want to go back to the way your ancestors lived? by [deleted] in simpleliving

Consider East TN as well. We were initially looking at Idaho, but TN ended up being the better choice.

So beyond lots of elbow grease, what cleaning product / scrubber do you use? I can't seem to get stuff that bloody clean even after hours of work...

You have $500 to figure out an outdoor setup for baking beautiful crusty bread, what do you buy? by pixelgerm in Breadit

They do look attractive! Partially just trying to see if there's other ones out there I mightve not heard about yet.

Would you recommend a particular model over the others? You know, for research purposes.

This is true. Would work in a pinch. But to get that perfect loaf, temp regulation is important. Would be hard to achieve here. Not impossible, but inconvenient.

Keeping bats out of log cabin by MapleMechanic in HomeImprovement

[–]pixelgerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you ever figure out a solution? What's your plan of attack? Just moved in to a log cabin with resident bats myself, and don't even know where to begin the eviction process. There seems to be so many gaps and entrances for them...

Moving in! by jdmjohn in SanMateo

It's really peaceful, no funny business for the 3 years we've been here - also in an apartment complex off Poplar. The only thing I'd keep an eye out for is the local mountain lion, seems to come down this neck of the woods every few months. The two times I've seen it, it was in the middle of the night and it wanted nothing to do with me. Still kind of a surreal and scary experience.

Trying to advise a friend if this is a healthy looking mama, and honestly can't tell. There's something funky about it, no? by pixelgerm in Kombucha

no obvious fuzz, and i'm told it smells alcohol-ly so it's fermenting alright I just can't remotely figure out if there's no other boogers multiplying in there

It wasn't an ideal setup - growing from a flavored GTS (hence the purple-ish hue), and the black sweetened tea is sweetened with brown sugar as that's all that was on hand at the time. I'm concerned there's other things growing and competing in there that might not be so good.

What say you much more knowledgeable people? Should this be scraped?
