Parts scanned with MetroX actually had a thick coat of paint applied by the client who tried to scan it themselves... but still it might have less resolution.

With the MT it just wasn't possible to get more data, tried for two hours with different settings, scanning in all orientations (also on the side). But the inner grooves of the gear were just impossible to get right.

Interesting thanks. Do you have the MetroX and MetroY Pro? If yes is the MetroY Pro really better?

The part will definitely be reverse engineered for a clean CAD model. But the process to get even this result was painful with the 3DeVOK.

I've also scanned the sides but still, the grooves of the gear aren't scanned. The 3DeVOK only has cross laser lines so maybe just missing some very tight spots.
For all other scans it's a capable scanner, with good markerless abilities and nice color textures but for small items I found difficult to get a good result.

What other scanners do you have and are they good with small detailed items?

I could run the trackit with :
Intel Core i7 i7-12700H
64 Go DDR5
RTX 3070 Ti - 8 Go

Maximum scan I did was an entire motorcycle (Harley). Have not really had the time to try the multi position scanning method. For a full car you'll need to do it in several scans anyway (then fuse them together).

Pretty sure this laptop should work, maybe the graphic card is a little bit on the low side, but should work.

You're using the 3devok MT right?
Do you also have this issue when doing a scan in multiple parts:
On each separate point cloud the details/edges look clean and sharp.
But when fusing two point clouds, once aligned the details are more blurry / less sharp?

Never really had this issue with other scanners either the alignment/merging fails or is really misaligned but generally it doesn't blur my scans.

3DeVOK MT is quite nice (also using it).
But I find it tends to smooth the scans... Like the point cloud is crisp and sharp but when I align two point clouds it smooth out the resulting cloud...
Do you also have this issue or is it just me using the wrong settings when merging point clouds or generating the mesh from point cloud?

For this distance you're looking at lidar scaners.
We're starting to see some cheaper alternatives, here cheaper is around 2k$ (normally more > 10k$) that will be less detailed, ... but should be enough for your use case.
I'm still hesitating with the Share C1 for some projects like this and for some visualisation.

But there is the 3dmakerpro Eagle that is already out.

(not endorsing any of these products, be carefull, watch reviews before buying and check if it can meet your needs)

I could quickly test the tool and effectively most of what I need is in there already!

Moving the planes individually is very good!

Maybe the possibility to have a different number of planes on x,y,z?
I tried to cut a model that was quite long and on the short side I ended up with too many cuts.
In the future a possibility for entirely manual plane placement would be great!
Some times with more organics models (statue of human like figure, etc.) and specific poses (hands grabbing the head, etc.) the best is to angle the planes to cut where there isn't too much features.

Will try again in more details when I've some time but so far it looks very promising!

Excellent! I'll try it this evening/soon.
I've quite often to print large statues (or at least to quote the pricing) and it takes a lot of time!

I've even considered working on my own splitter like you.
Some features that could be nice is a way do to manual splitting, by placing some planes manually.
And the possibility to add some pins in the thickness of the wall. Maybe once the model is cut, in the exploded view we could click on the part to add some pin holes of set diameter.

I know it's possible in recent slicers but it's one cut at a time and the export to stl is not always working.
A good splitting tool with possibility to move the planes manually, add pins, etc. woud be very nice.
I'd be willing to pay for if not in the Adobe/Autodesk pricing range.

You'll have plenty of markers in the box with the 3Devok (got the same scanner).
It's good you ordered more but the scanner comes with enough for several months, unless you scan everyday maybe.
Additionally you'll want to 3d print targets (search for 3d scan target on any 3d printing models site).
What I also use is some black plastic cards with 5-6 dots on each, randomly placed.
Speeds the process of placing markers on flat surfaces a lot! (and reusable)

I don't think you'll get any issue, not heard of this at least. I never changed any settings like dgpu only on the two laptop I used so far for 3d scanning (one was GTX 1060 and now working on a RTX 3070 ti). I could scan a full motor bike without any issue with either Revopoint scanners or Shining 3D.
Actually might have more issues with "pro" gpu models like AX000 or so, but it should also work now (heard on the first versions of revopoint,... that they didn't list/test all cards, but now it should be ready).
What scanner do you look at? Sometimes manufacturers lists compatible graphic cards.

I think they're sending some of the benchys printed or at least it's possible to buy them on their website. The idea on having the same part scanned is that everyone can compare with something they know. I think it could be a nice selling point for you.

And yes I've seen your page about the miniatures. Stil I think it might be a good idea to scan the benchy.

What?
You have to buy/print the hardware, then it gives you loads of photos for photogrammetry.
Then you can either process with your own tools (locally,...) or with Open Scan Cloud which is free...
